The International received a lukewarm reception on this thread; but Clive Owen is back in another spy movie - Duplicity.
Owen plays an MI6 agent. It's written and directed by Bourne screenwriter Tony Gilroy, and has a good cast with Julia Roberts, Tom Wilkinson and Paul Giamatti.
Should be interesting for us minority of fans who believe Owen would have been a great Bond.

Last thing I'll ever watch in theaters is a Julia Roberts flick.

I have NO idea why people are enamoured with J.R. I find her a narcissistic bore who is nowhere as cute as she believes she is. Her brother Eric has little to do with her as well I believe. Strike two on Owen in 2009? With HP and The Deathly Hallows coming out pre-Thanksgiving 2010, do not expect Eon to be in any rush to release YOU ONLY BOURNE TWICE, for with The Bourne Mimicry's greeatly reduced profit margin with it's record expenditures, a lack of originality by Eon, and a poorly received Craig in his other films, MGM/Eon might take a break long enough to figure out their next move.

Duplicity looks rather derviative...hell they even used The One and Only Ocean Club from CR!
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
But you admit that they are. Everyone's entitled to their opinion (I can take or leave most of her stuff, but thought she was good in/as Erin Brockovich), but there's no denying that she is a box-office draw.bjmdds wrote:I have NO idea why people are enamoured with J.R.

Clive Owen seems to have a film out every month. No wonder he was reluctant to lock himself into the Bond franchise.

Lucky that Clive Owen wasn't picked as James Bond.
All of his recent films seem to have flopped big time. No doubt he's a great actor, but Eon and the franchise don't need to be tarnished by an actor who doesn't sell at the box office. Especially if he can't make it in the US.

Ummm Quantum Of Solace was a very sizeable hit. I know the spin doctors here will attempt to say other wise.
Reality is that QOS = Hit.

The Invasion 2007
The Golden Compass 2007
Quantum Of Solace 2008
Flashbacks Of A Fool ( a low budget indy movie) 2008
Defiance 2008
Only Defiance could be placed as a miss. Whilst The Invasion and The Golden Compass were not huge hits, how far back do you plan to go?
That's like saying Connery wasn't a success because his pre-Bond films were not hits.

Breaking News.
The US doesn't equal the world.
Over Owen and Craig as Bond. I'd pick Craig. Hands down.

And?
I watch other films, but my interest in this site or Mi6 is to discuss James Bond primarily.
Of course I take an interest in the actors other work, but as much as this may kill you. I couldn't give a $hit if dedfiance bombs, or the invasion sucks.
The important thing for me, is James Bond is in safe hands with Daniel Craig.

Katie did specifically say non-Bond films. There's no reason to suppose that QOS wouldn't have been a hit with Owen as Bond based on the performance of his other movies. I've never seen the appeal of Owen as Bond myself, but Craig's box office history shows that you can have a string of flops and still put bums on seats as Bond.Captain Nash wrote:Ummm Quantum Of Solace was a very sizeable hit. He put bums on seats with CR. A little less so with QOS. And thanks for backing me up on his non-Bond films being flops.
