There's a lot of complaints about them elsewhere but the Bond films are no worse than other films which are WAY more obvious with the product placement.

Not watching either of those..I think the product placement with the two movies mentioned above was a way to make people forget they were watching cr*ap

Lark! Are they in business anymore?

Bond movies have always had product placements, at first I think unintentional because it was describing the posh world 007 lived in. Like the descriptions of the brand of caviar or vodka. Then advertising caught up to the mvoies and it be came business decisions . I think the first movies had bentleys for Bonds car then teh AM as was in the GF book. The little convertible in Dr no I;m not sure what it was But it wasn't a placement like the ford and chevys and bmw of the later years.

I believe the car he drives in DN is a Sunbeam. And was it true that a significant amount of the budget for GF went into that Astin Martin?

Still, I don't mind much of the product placement in Bond films, as you said, even in the books Bond is pretty picky when it comes to brands. Just as long as they don't go overboard like in The Island. It's summed up best in QOS when Fields has a reservation to a low-class hotel, Bond looks in for five seconds, walks straight out never looking back because he'd "rather be in a morgue".

Product placement is such a part of James Bond that when I hosted a Thunderball party last year I had product placement. I bought a set of martini glasses made by Skyy Vodka... I lined the twelve glasses up on the bar and placed a couple bottles of Skyy Vodka behind them. It was great. And most of my friends knew exactly what I was going for... It was just another homage - along with a Christmas tree, scuba mask, vintage golf club, clown nose, mardi gras mask, etc.

Have you seen transformers? God! If you can't or will not go to teh Chevy dealer it will coem to your livingroom. Never heard of Ebay? Guess what you will again and again.

I don't mind the placement in bond if its not trying to sell me something. I know those day are gone but in the first bonds it was about teh style and substance not just positioning the brand.
Everyone likes certain brands and not all brands are interchangeable. Some People like coke and some like pepsi, it makes sense for a character to have a favorite drink , style or brand becasue we all do. To me the recent movies (not juts Bond ) are sellouts trying to cash in on whoever will pay them the most or let them use their cars for free or give them free cloths.

I guess bond is an example of how it can start small using a brand to make a point about the character, but once it happens with everyone wanting to drink or drive what bond does then its become a money maker for the movie makers to cash in on.

I think in Dr No Bond had a rolex, if I remember the story right they couldn't afford a rolex and it was Cubby's watch. That wasn't placing an add it was living up to teh style bond has, some time after that it became a point about which brand watch had bought advertising.
