A Fresh Start For 'Bond 23', Says Daniel Craig

I found this on some obscure website.....!

A Fresh Start For 'Bond 23', Says Daniel Craig

'We've finished this story as far as I'm concerned.'

As mentioned several times in the past when Bond 23 discussions came up, Daniel Craig is keen on reintroducing Miss Moneypenny and Q back into the franchise after being absent from both Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace.

At a press event earlier today for Craig’s upcoming Defiance, Collider got a chance to quiz the James Bond star even further about what fans can expect from the 23rd entry in the 007 series.

When asked whether or not Bond 23 would latch onto the story presented in Royale and Quantum to form a trilogy of sorts, Craig said: ‘No f—king way. I’m done with that story. I want to lie on a beach for the first half an hour of the next movie drinking a cocktail.’

As many CommanderBond.net readers are well aware, Quantum director Marc Forster had filmed a one-minute scene that was originally intended to close the film. Featuring Bond, Mr. White and Guy Haines, this ‘cliffhanger’ ending would have necessitated that Bond 23 continue the story. ‘If I would have kept the scene, then producers wouldn’t have had a choice but to make it a trilogy. Now they can start new. They have that opportunity,’ Forster said at the time.

Craig continued: ‘We’ve finished this story as far as I’m concerned. We’ve got a great set of bad guys. There is an organization that we can use whenever we want to. The relationship between Bond and M is secure and Felix is secure. Let’s try and find where Moneypenny came from and where Q comes from. Let’s do all that and have some fun with it.’

‘We’ve finished this story as far as I’m concerned. We’ve got a great set of bad guys. There is an organization that we can use whenever we want to.’

The actor couldn’t confirm a strict timetable for his third Bond film, stating: ‘We don’t know when we’re going to do the next Bond. Nobody’s thinking about it at the moment. We’re giving it a rest for the moment. If I can squeeze [a non-Bond project] in next year I will… but I haven’t figured out what that’ll be yet. But nothing in the cold.’

It was reported last year that Sony was eyeing a 2010 release date for Bond 23, but producer Michael G. Wilson has since stated that a 2011 release seems more likely.

In an interview with IGN, he said: ‘I would think that we’d bring it out in two-and-a-half to three years [from] now, I guess. It’s hard to tell until we get working on the script [which is scheduled to commence in January 2009]’

I'm glad they didn't use that ending.

2011 gives the Broccowilsons (heh) plenty of time to regroup.

The problem with keeping Quantum around is that the more fanboyish segments of Bond fans are going to keep claiming that it's SPECTRE reborn. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, let's not go down that road. :?

Dropping the ending was wise. Personally I liked the way it ended with the necklace in the snow, it's more effective.

The ending, as it was, was good, yeah. One of the better endings for a Bond film(and Bond's first line in the film had me chuckling every time I saw it :) )

You didn't have to be a genius to see this one coming.

Like I said before,I don't think we've seen the last of Mr. White(or Haines for that matter)but I think it'll be a different storyline..more about catching them than any sort of revenge motive.

If Craig does make another movie which is lighter in tone and it is another flop, then he will be finished.

I think Eon et al should get another actor in to play Bond and make a fresh start in three years time.

Isn't that pretty unlikely since so many people like Craig?

I dunno Pierce got the boot and he never had a flop.He could have done darker and grittier too if they had let him.

Yet he had the role for seven years with four films under his belt all while he completed his contract. It was time for him to go.

Nah, he doesn't have the range.

It wasn't time for Connery to go after yolt he could have made at least two more good movies.Difference is connery was burned out on bond brosnan wasn't.

Yes.Yes he does. Its Craig who doesn't have much of range.Brosnan wanted to do more with Bond and they wouldn't let him.

Just because Connery was good enough to earn more Bond films doesn't mean Brosnan automatically should, especially since he was inferior and EON recognized that despite a good run at the box office.
Yes.Yes he does. Its Craig who doesn't have much of range.
Daniel Craig is a classically trained actor, Pierce Brosnan was a second rate TV star has-been.
Brosnan wanted to do more with Bond and they wouldn't let him.
Maybe he did, maybe he didn't. Either way he wouldn't have pulled it off as convincing.

A classically trained actor indeed? Based on what film? Bond does not need a great actor but a likeable, handsome, tall, dark haired OK actor who looks as if he belongs in the Bond film. I watched CR twice on cable today just to see how putrid Craig looks from the profile, the back of his head, the way he carries himself, with his spiked bristled hair sticking up in the back of his head and his overall facial features. The guy looks perpetually dour. Brosnan saved a Dalton-induced coma on the franchise and it took that 'second rate TV star has-been' to save it! Not bad Stocks, wouldn't you say?

Pierce Brosnan is a trained actor - he attended the Drama Centre in London. I don't think Craig is the modern equivalent of Laurence Olivier and Brosnan was some old amateur who drfited into acting as Stocksilvian is implying.
