Yesterday, TBM took in only $4 million total on day 5, with more shows per day and higher ticket prices. The next 2 weeks will see if it has the interest of the public to topple CR. I am curious about the UK as well, which was down to $8.6 million in total box office after weekend number 3.
Yes......but No but............CR was released a week before thankgiving, same as DAD, and the weekday figures are always bigger than a normal weekdays take, as they get higher as the week goes on.
In fact QOS seems to be doing pretty well during this week in the US. it will be interesting to see how QOS does during the week prior to thanksgiving.

I only wish.........QOS had been upto scratch as per CR, and not had such a rushed post-production............it makes you wonder then how well the film could of been received.

AB
Can the UK squeeze out another $40 million+ to top CR EA?
I think thats unlikely now...........mainly because the £1 is only worth $1.5 approx, whereas 2 years ago, the pound was worth nearly $2.

In local currency terms, obviously due to higher ticket prices, QOS is about £3 mil ahead of CR at this stage, though the 3rd weekend was pretty much equal for the 2 films, but from now on i'am expecting QOS to dropoff faster than CR, but the film does seem to be holding on better than in other foreign territories.
QOS could get close to CR's £55+ mil take in the UK.

Incidently i've been posting quite a bit at 'MI6' recently, and its refreshing to see that the members there have been very
honest with their reviews on QOS.
The film has been averaging around 7/10 as a rating.
As i have mentioned here.........the general concensus is that it was a good film, but could of been a lot better if the story
had more depth to it (could of done with more dialogue scenes), and that some technical film making aspects of the film were very poor (which i don't think has ever been the case for previous Bonds).

AB (i wish i had stuck with EA here) :typing:

Yeah, Brain, people are pretty honest about how they feel about QOS over at MI6,But there are some pretty enthusiastic people over at MI6-people who have seen it quite a few times,to the measly twice I've seen it

Though it must be said I'be been mulling over seeing it a third time before I go out of town for Thanksgiving

It also shows that Craig's Bond in CR is popular with US audiences, due to the high opening weekend. If we had believed the doom-mongering on here from Bj, no one would have turned up to see QoS in the US, because Craig isn't popular there.

Thankfully this has put that theory to bed once and for all. Will QoS top CR? Probably, both globally and in the US. But that argument is now almost irrelevant anymore. The opening weekend in the US speaks volumes about how popular Craig is as Bond.

I'm suprised you lot ain't in mourning right now....
No it didn't, where did you read that? TBM took in less than TBU, and if factoring in increased ticket prices, it was at least $10 million behind it. It proves one thing though:the average american movie goer will see anything with explosions and fast paced action, be it John McClaine, Jason Bourne, or James Bond.

Don't forget chaps that even though QOS did finally make less less than TBU, it did make more money per theatre than TBU, plus Bourne was release in over more than 200 theatres............so the 'Sweeney' does have a point.

Please get your facts right!.........plus Bourne is far less popular abroad than Bond by a massive margin.

Blimey.....you peolpe always find a negative point of view!........r u really Bond fans?

Wait a second AB, Sweens whole thing was Bond beat Bourne, in the US he didn't, more tickets were sold to Bourne.
Per theater take is inaccurate becasue of the multiplexes.
I go by tickets sold becasue of the new theaters built every year to serve the same population as the year before.

r u really Bond fans?
Whoa there big fella. Aren't you part of the Bourne-Again-Bond crowd. Perhaps it is we who should be asking that question ;)

I thought I read somewhere that Bond had beaten Bourne in its opening weekend in the US? Maybe I was wrong. Forgive me.....

With regards the opening weekend, even if it is marginally less than Bourne, what does it tell you about how popular Craig is as Bond in the US? You guys have been going on constantly how this would nosedive dramatically in its open weekend in the US, because nobody there gives two hoots about Craig.

Will some of you care to admit you were wrong? I'm bold enough to say there are parts of QoS which I do not like at all. The more I think about the film, the more annoyed I get, about how good it could have been. The film needed an extra 20 minutes running time to tell the story properly. As it is now, the film looks rushed, and unfinished.....

We all underpredicted the opening weekend gross, including some pro-Craigers, but even BJ (the most pessimistic member here) talked about it nosediving in its second weekend - not an unrealistic prognosis given that its second and third weekend drops in the UK were both over 40% and there are two major releases out tomorrow, the Disney cartoon Bolt and the teen vampire movie Twilight. Yes, I know they're competing for different audiences from Bond, but it's not hard to envision parents sacrificing their own moviegoing in order to make sure their kids get to see the movie they want.

A lot of people in the US went to see QOS because there was bugger all else at the cinema and it was a (heavily marketed) James Bond film.

I agree with that statement..............it was a shame, because the film went at a breakneck speed, that you couldn't really sit back, absorb and enjoy the film fully. QOS needed more dialogue scenes, and some characters needed better explanation.

I mean, for example, the henchman Elvis as far as i remember hardly said anything, and didn't do much accept just put on a silly grin!

Fields, i thought was pretty good for such a small role, but again, could of done with a longer part.

The thing is when Forster slows things down some of the scenes are very good!

The action scenes would of been greatly enhanced if they had been stretched out a bit longer............considering the amount of work put into them, it seems obvious a lot of shots were cut from the final film.

Its as if he wanted to get the job done over with and quickly.........he complained about the editing time, but Campbell and his editing team managed it for CR and they produced a film that was an extra 40min or so longer!!!

Forster said he wanted the film to go like a bullet...........but this is not a video game film!...........i think he didn't quite
understand what the audience expectations were.

The underlining fact is unfortunately the blame lies with the producers and SONY, if they truly want a classy Bond film by hiring an artistic director, then they should allow more post-production time for the filmakers to do their job properly, sit back, reflect on it and make corrections if necessary.

I could go on and on moaning :D , but as a Bond fan, i don't wait 2 years as the minimum, to see a mediocre film.
I expect it to be bleedin good every time, particularly as we know they can be and have been in the past.

I've seen the film twice.......second time was much better, but i still remember walking out of the cinema on first viewing feeling totally underwhelmed!!

An annoyed AB :(

Okay 'Razor' :D .....but whenever there's a comparison between Bond and other films, the goal-posts seem to be always moved to reflect the Bond films performance in a negative way!!

Incidently, i agree admissions is the only true way to judge a films success against another, and in the US admission figures are registered, but i only see them when a film has completed its run.
Do you know of a site that gives out weekly admission figures?

No, i don't want a James Bourne film........and neither do the public, as evidenced by their reaction to the film.
A dark, serious Bond thriller can easily be made without using the Bourne influenced ideas.

The producers better get it right for BOND 23.........i wonder if the change back to MGM will have an effect on the thinking?

I deal with facts. As of yesterday, TBM only did $3.3 million day 6 in the USA, vs. CR's $6.6 million day 6 in the USA, with more daily screenings and 10% higher ticket prices. CR went on to do MORE business in the days ahead. Already, at day 6, there is a SIGNIFICANT drop off compared to CR's increase in box office take per day. CR spiraled up;TBM is now spiraling down. We ALL thought it would open big weekend one, and drop off weekends 2 and 3. CR only dropped 25% in it's second weekend it the USA. It looks like a MUCH steeper drop for TBM, and if Potter and company were around, FORGET it!. Too much enthusiasm for this pile of Bourne rubbish upfront. Wait......just wait.......word of mouth is NOT good.
