Barack Obama's presidential victory - widely heralded as a new beginning - has paved the way for the first black James Bond, current 007 Daniel Craig says.
The actor said Senator Obama's historic triumph to become the first African-American US president suggested the time was right for a coloured man to play the world's most famous secret agent, according to London's Telegraph.
"After Barack Obama's victory I think we might have reached the moment for a coloured 007," Craig was quoted as saying.
"I think the role could easily be played by a black actor, because the character created by Ian Fleming in the 50s has undergone a great deal of evolution and continues to be updated."
However, the idea might not be well received by Fleming, Craig said.
"I think he'd probably turn in his grave ... [at the thought of a black Bond]," said Craig.
Fleming was not known to hold liberal views and his books were laced with the racial prejudices of his era, the paper said.
A chapter in Live and Let Die, for example, is titled "Nigger Heaven" and describes a room in a Harlem club in which the "air was thick with smoke and the sweet, feral smell of two hundred negro bodies".
I call bulls**t on this - I find it hard to imagine Craig using the word "coloured" in this context, unless he's been surreptitiously replaced by a time traveller from the 1950s. Sounds like another "Craig wants a gay Bond" story to me.

It's out there as coming from him. Sky News may be the most reliable source.(Craig made the comments at the Italian premiere, press conference at the St Regis Hotel in Rome) All of it could be an interpretation by the reporter. I know Craig didn't rattle off LALD.
By trying to praise Obama, Craig put his stupid low class foot in that vacuous cavern of a mouth that he has. He has ONCE AGAIN been revealed. What an idiot Eon must think they have on their hands. Even this ridiculous notion of a black actor playing Bond is utter nonsense. Would a white actor play Obama Daniel? This guy is pure rubbish.
This is the end game for Eon. They cheapened the brand immeasurably and are now producing Bourne knockoffs under the brand Brand name. No creative energizes need be produced, just follow the leader whatever it may be.
Once the miscast Craig and non Bond institution becomes established there are no longer any standards left.
As some said when Craig was cast, "Why not Jane Bone instead?".
Craig established that the classic standard is just that and Fleming's intentions and writings are open to fit whatever interpenetration the Babs the producer desires.

As I said on another thread, the pro-Craigs will be along to defend their god before too long Honestly, what was Craig smoking when he said that?

Its much ado about nothing, isn't it. It's probably just lazy, BS journo's again, or if it is true its not exactly earth shattering either.
Craig was just showing he ain't no racist by saying Bond could be played by a black actor these days, but then counteracting it by saying Fleming probably would turn in his grave if Bond was black (in other words, Craig doesn't really want a black Bond either but was being `right on' to keep the PC brigade happy).
You guys are trying to turn this into something bigger than what it is, just because Craig `allegedly' said it.

So was the quote about wanting a gay Bond. I notice there's no actual source for the quote, just a vague "Craig is quoted as saying..." (quoted by whom?). That and the fact that nobody under the age of about 80 says "coloured" any more means it doesn't pass the smell test for me.

Actually, what with the rather, shall we say mixed reviews QOS has been getting,I'm kind of surprised that the UK tabloids haven't been making up more stuff about Craig(not that I like the man-or approve, mind you )

The Andy Warhol Bond
If Warhol was still alive, I wonder if Babs would hire him to direct a Bond film, for that arthouse cred? It'd be 48 hours long and feature Bond walking in and out of a room holding random objects while reading Dadaist poetry.

This is much stronger and specific. Date, Time, and Place listed, a d**n press conference for Christ's sake. I'm not going to say absolutely he said it, I do think if he did there is video of it. Maybe the management here should look in to that.
Eh, charismatic is in the eye of the beholder(but it must be said that there are people who think Daniel Craig is charismatic. There's no acccounting for taste )
