I saw this too.
Worryingly Kermode is something of a Bond fan aswell, so it's not as if he's a critic that doesn't know his stuff.
I guess it's hard to make a follow up to such a huge film before it, successful.
FRWL and TESB are two films that spring to mind as being better than the original.
In the world of Bond were TMWTGG, LTK or TND better than the debut films of Moore, Dalton or Brosnan?
Will QOS be as bad as some of the reviews make it out to be?
(Obviously yes to most here)
I hated DAD completely, there was nothing in it that I enjoyed, or thought worked well. I'm hoping that QOS has something redeeming in it at this stage (having not seen it), even if it's the action scenes...or more than likely Craig returning as Bond.

As far as second films go, I was never expecting a FRWL (that'd be a miracle!), however I'm hoping it will be good as or better than LTK. Definitely must be better than TMWGG and TND (from the looks of it, QOS already looks better than the two). I notice most of the general complaint is that they were expecting another CR. Go on RottenTomatoes and you'll see blurbs mostly containing "Not as good as CR".

In the end I'm hoping for a solid flick. Only three weeks to go in the states!

That's one of the best reviews so far.Negative or no.And the responses to it are about what I'd expect(although there are a few agreeing with him).

Pond of Wood!!

"Really no script at all"
"Heavily Bourne inflected "
"Why don't I care more?"
"If this wasn't James Bond in these fight sequences it would be a Jason Statham movie."
"Just like watching teletubbys bouncing around in padded cell."
"When the adverts don't interrupt the program you know the program isn't up to snuff."
"It felt long."
"I felt heavy eyelids happening, and that's never good in chase scene."
"High school musical 3 is a better film."

I'm amazed the people at The Place That Can't Be Named haven't referred to him as Mark Commode.Seems like a way they'd respond to an especially bad review like that :P

His name does lend itself to that.

I don't understand why they were so shocked by QOS being the way it is. From what they say, this is what Craig does and what his spy is. CR was the same crap but it was new and exciting in 2006 and its no good now? :? I imagine Craig is very confused by all of this.
These were people who loved CR it is sign that the bloom is off the rose. People who didn't like CR will be even more repelled. They (and other fans) may not come back after this, this could really damage the series unless Jason Statham had 100 million rabid fans looking to spend.

Yeah, there were last time. I watched CR and felt the worse for it. It was depressing adn whatever it was it wasn't Bond. Change the name of the character and I got no problems. Still a lousy movie but at least its not a bad Bond movie.

DAD wasn't perfect but it was fun. Pierce did a remarkable job especially in the first half of the movie which was driven by his performance alone. The feeling I have from DAD is the producers cranked it up for a anniversary special. In CR the producers wanted to make Batman without keeping Bond, Bond, imitating Bourne which is a shallow character without much weight. Bond has a past and a standard he was held to, where did that go?

Brutal review. It may be on the money.

Sadly I'm hearing similar rebukes.

Red wine with fish!
Well that should've told me something

I find my enjoyment of a film can be greatly swayed by the reviews and the hype.
I have to say TDK is probably one of the most hyped films of all time. A great film make no mistake, but no where near as good as it is sometimes made out. In my opinion.
I've said it once, I'll say it again, after I've seen the film, I'll make my own opinion.
Cue katied's denial and sheeple copy/pastes. Of course having made up your mind before seeing the film, aren't you part of the herd as it were. No pun intended. :P
