It was a great way to introduce a new OO7 to the worlds press.
How would you like to have seen it done? With or without Craig?
Have Craig drive up to the announcement in the coolest looking Aston Martin out there, with tinted glass, pull up, let the door open, and out steps Craig as Bond, James Bond, wearing sunglasses, not a life jacket. Don't you agree that would have been a better choice?
BJ are you Psychic.

I agree with BJ that the Astin Martin would have been a cool entrance but the boat intro was not THAT bad. But you are right, people reacted strangely to that. On CNN someone goes "James Bond wearing a lifevest? Give me a break!" despite that there were marines wearing them as well just to show that some people with the negativity have lost their perspective.

But you are right, that intro really damaged the image of Craig. I mean his first film grossed over $100 million more than the last film. EON must be hiding in a corner by now in shame.

I guess your quoting me. :?

If so, I added that both EON and Craig repaired the damage that was caused that day with regards his wimpish appearance.

So a man in a suit looks like a wimp now?

No, a man who wears protective gear is considered a wimp because there is no one more braver than a man being a fool without that and dying when he could have lived longer.

Besides, we all know how EON can be overprotective with their actors. Anyone know the incident with Cubby on LTK concerning Dalton doing stunts?

That wasn't the point I was making, but CRAIG (Not a general man in a suit) does look kind of wimpish now you ask.

I think your missing the point. I appreciate the safety aspect. I just felt the whole scenario was wrong.

There's no pleasing some people.
It was a way to introduce a new Bond. It has no further effect on the series. I could say that the way Brosnan was introduced was dull and boring. But is it worth it?

I stated an opinion because I felt it had an impact on the style of the film. We all know you love it  but It's a valid point.

How can the way an actor is introduced to the press have an impact on the film he was at the time yet to make?
The style of the film was not dictated by that introduction.

The Sweeney wrote:True. LTK had a very poor marketing campaign, but I think the real reason is 9/11. Since 9/11 audiences have become used to more realistic, grittier, harder, darker, more serious action films (even comic flicks like Superman Returns, Spiderman and Batman Begins reflect this).

Back in 89, that wasn't the trend of the times, whereas now it is.
Yup, in the 80's Bond's main "rivals" were the likes of Rambo and Die Hard, now it's Bourne and 24.
Bourne is a rival, yes. 24...really??

Back in the 80's, Rambo and Die Hard weren't really rivals to Bond, as they were catering for the shoot 'em up audience, and a different certified audience (over 15's/18's). Bond belonged in the spy genre, and the PG category, with the exception of the one-off LTK, which was in the spy genre, but managed to gain a 15 certificate.

Your quote on the bottom of your posts(I'd like to thank the royal marines.....) is THE defining introductory statement for me when Craig was announced as Bond. THAT statement really turned me off Craig, in addition to his vulgar mouth, stature, and off-beat Bond look. I see that statement registered with the Skywalker, as well.
When he arrived for the announcement - see below.

I thought he's trying to look cool by wearing shades. The life jacket just ruined it. What a combination.

Then that comment just summed it up.
Yup! It must be real hard for some people to distinguish an actor doing a job, to a fictional character in a movie......

Don't worry Skywalker. I believe you.

I never thought it would be possible that people would believe such a thing, until this site suddenly sprung up.

Good buddy, in that picture Craig is about to be introduced as James Bond, and in that situation,it is a valid point. Eon could have utilized far better ways to pull off his intro. I doubt the majority of those who saw CR worldwide even have a clue about that press conference. This particular aspect of debate is between Bond officienados, not the average Joe's who saw CR. Admit one thing Sweeney, that opening press conference was lame from the start, agreed?
