Just got the soundtrack of Octopussy through the mail and am now listening. John Barry is utter bliss!
I think if they're ever gonna replace David Arnold, EON needs to check out Jonny Greenwood.

I don't know why David Arnold comes in for such stick. I find it more surprising that EON would want anything to do with attention w*hores like Ronson and Crackhouse(who is on suicide watch BTW..)

We'll hear from them maybe, but I doubt EON will go with them, especially after Winehouse acting like a poor loser for not getting the job.

Poor loser is right."Loser" is a good way to describe both of them, actually.stockslivevan wrote:We'll hear from them maybe, but I doubt EON will go with them, especially after Winehouse acting like a poor loser for not getting the job.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I don't think it's fair to call Ronson a loser, he seemed to be the only one eager to work on a Bond song but it was Amy who acted unprofessional. The fact that he complimented the song by Keys and White shows that he's trying to keep a good note between him and EON as much as possible just for the possibility of doing a future Bond song. So props to him for acting like a pro and thumbs down to Amy for being a poor loser.
I think that's all we can say of this. Until news of Amy on a Bond song hits, there really is no point talking about her anymore.

There was talk of her releasing the Bond theme that she and Ronson did.
Doesn't exactly scream "trying to stay in EON's good graces" to me.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
That's Winehouse herself, not Ronson. Did you forget? He stopped working with her midway through the song claiming to the press that "she's not ready". Clearly he couldn't work with her and gave up along the way, but it seems he still hopes to work on a Bond song when she sobers up (if she ever does). While Ronson tries to keep the peace with EON as much as he can, Winehouse destroys it.katied wrote:There was talk of her releasing the Bond theme that she and Ronson did.

I am probably going to either get a warning or be banned for this but it has to be said:If Amy Crackhouse can't get her act together(seems less and less likely
) then maybe
she just needs to kill herself already
An unpopular opinion?sure, but nobody wants to help her and she doesn't want to help herself.

The best Bond since Timothy Dalton! Makes a change from: The best Bond since Connery! I agree anyway that Timothy edges Craig. Dalton mined similar territory to Craig but the difference is that Dalton looked soooooo much more like a James Bond.Captain Nash wrote:Another of those 'we don't like change' fans.oscartheman wrote:A genuine fan but not a genuine Bond movie![]()
Fair enough I suppose, but it's been over two years.
Whinge, moan, discuss and comment all you like. It's not going to change to much. Call any fans of Craig, sheep herded by Eon, I couldn't give a toss mate. Like The Sweeney I feel Craig is the best interpratation of James Bond since Timothy Dalton.

Equivalent to if you don't like Obama you are racist.
He doesn't care for Craig, doesn't mean he dislikes change. If he put up with 40 years of Bond movies then he actually does like change.
What he doesn't care for is the desertion of the founding principles in the books and movies that made Bond who he was.
Dalton was better Bond, suited for the role but the stories were not what people wanted. Now Eon is back at the abandoned mineshaft praying that the vein they think they have doesn't peter out after a few feet.

I don't mind change. But radically changing the look and personality of the Bond character is a change too far. As is the evolving young Bond element to a Bond played by 40 + years old Daniel Craig.
The modern world dictates that Bond must change a little. But Craig's Bond is unrecognisable from Fleming's creation to me.

All fair comments, and I appreciate and understand where many of you are coming from.
I don't like being told I'm not a fan because I like Daniel Craig, and have accepted him in the role.
The course Eon have taken obviously doesn't offend me as much as some others. I do know where you're coming from with the changes made. And to a certain degree it's true. Maybe we have gone a little far, but at the same time I saw more Fleming Bond in CR than in the four brosnan outings put together. I never saw Pierce as a Fleming Bond...an eon Bond yes, but never a Fleming Bond.
Connery, Dalton and Craig have played the character as Fleming's Bond imo, and Connery changed to the eon style pretty much from GF onwards. Still love his films though.

What it comes down to Bond for me is this: Steely toughness. Connery, Dalton and Craig excel at that.

Books by your own admission you have not read anytime in the recent past. To say there is culture shock is putting it mildly, CR for example was a warm endearing tail. Bond meeting a very close friend and working with him was a wonderful happenstance and bumming around a posh casino gambling on behest of Queen and country was just one of the perks of the Job.
The story was rich with the trappings of culture and the hedonistic enjoyment of them, all under the guise of working made it all the better. The movie was bereft of this.
Brozza was very close to Fleming's ideal. Watch GoldenEye, he hit dead on the image Fleming described in his books. Consider Fleming had Carry Grant in mind when created Bond, makes it all the clearer.
Brozza would have liked to do more edgy stuff but was vetoed by the same pack now letting Craig run wild.
don't like being told I'm not a fan because I like Daniel Craig, and have accepted him in the role.
And yet it is acceptable to tell people that they are not fans because they do not like Daniel Craig. Sorry that is the way its been. May not be a failing on you part as an individual, but it certainly is the studio line and it has been hammered away at from dusk till dawn.
You can enjoy Craig as Bond, I say good for you. I can't look at him and find anything of what I read in the books or know from the previous movies. And that goes more toward style and spirit than actual physical appearance.
