A good point Sweeney. It will be interesting to see if the tide turns during Craig's run. Will EON adopt a different style/tone to suit the current trend and maybe change Craig's style?
As Campbell said, they are locked in with Craig in this style, and they will continue on this path, until they choose Bond number 7, for 007.
Campbell probably won't be directing any more Craig Bond films. If the grittier/tense/realistic trend is no longer popular, I'm sure EON will change the style like they have always done.

The question will be how long will it take until Bond becomes more Bond-like again, instead of Bourne-Bauer like, in style?

Your quote on the bottom of your posts(I'd like to thank the royal marines.....) is THE defining introductory statement for me when Craig was announced as Bond. THAT statement really turned me off Craig, in addition to his vulgar mouth, stature, and off-beat Bond look. I see that statement registered with the Skywalker, as well.

When he arrived for the announcement - see below.

I thought he's trying to look cool by wearing shades. The life jacket just ruined it. What a combination.

Then that comment just summed it up.

Bond 22.....how much shorter in time?

Post by bjmdds »

All accounts from movie critics agreed that Casino Royale was far too long a film. Do you think Eon will shorten Bond 22 down to 2 hours maximum, or continue to indulge the new director with another long film?

You and I are of a common mindset!!!! That post, with that picture, followed by that comment, ruined it for me. The question is, did the rest of the non-forum Bond world see it, and hear it? That picture should be your avatar!!

I watched CR the other day and I agree the pace of the film is inconsistent and the film feels drawn out. I'm currently writing a review of the film which I will post shortly.

I look forward to it as does the rest of this wonderful forum cast of members. The interesting thing I have noticed with many professional movie critics that praise Craig as Bond is that they do not particularly like the plot, they find the fight scenes over done, they do not like Green, but they love Dench and they LOVE the fact this Bond film is a 'serious' film in style, and 'different' than the other 20. Being different and serious, that is not really grounds for Bond greatness, yet that seems to be the driving force for CR's success, not necessarily Craig's performance.

Where did you find the film to be drawn out and what parts would you have changed/removed?

As hard as it is to say this I have to agree with you both on this point.
*Forgive me Father for I have sinned*
But CR was a little too long, and maybe a few edits could've been used. Though not so long as to ruin or make the film anyless enjoyable.
I'm sure Bond 22 will be to a more audience friendly 2 hours.
(I realise the kids can't keep still too long.) Couldn't resist.
But if you actually look at the special features disc on your CR dvd, you'll see that Craig had asked not to wear the life jacket, but it was a requirement of the Marines, and they all seem to be sporting them. I guess to you they must be wimps?

You have not sinned, just agreed on common ground, nicely. Was that so difficult Nash? Congrats.

But that does not make up for his palefaced look and vulgar comment upon disembarking from the boat. Additionally, if that was the case, Eon should have staged another introduction, for a lot of the debate against Craig originated by his original press conference arrival and interview, which did not go over that well.

I just would not have arrived like that. It was awful and I think it put a bad perception in most peoples mind. Fair play to EON (marketing) and Craig for looking less wimp like in the film.

So it's okay for The Marines to sport life jackets, but not the actor playing James Bond?
It was a great way to introduce a new OO7 to the worlds press.
How would you like to have seen it done? With or without Craig?

Have Craig drive up to the announcement in the coolest looking Aston Martin out there, with tinted glass, pull up, let the door open, and out steps Craig as Bond, James Bond, wearing sunglasses, not a life jacket. Don't you agree that would have been a better choice?

I just don't think it worked (Serious comment). I think they were going for a cool stylish entrance that seemed to flop badly IMO.

A more simple entrance would have worked. Maybe Craig driving an Aston Martin and not making such a lame comment.

I actually feel that comment by Craig and the weak entrance set the thinking for the tone of the film. There was a lot of criticism over that introduction and it obviously effected the thinking of both EON and Craig. His appearance in CR was a statement of intent illustrating his physical presence on screen.
