I actually thought the SPECTRE story was wasted. It started off good but then YOLT turned them into a joke and the storyline ended up unresolved thanks to McClory's screwing with EON.

They spoofed mostly YOLT SPECTRE, which is the worst interpretation of that group. In FRWL SPECTRE is still a formidable enemy still feels like a threat. I think updating it for today's while reinventing it would be interesting. Just my opinion. :)

Bond films should not be taking a step back.Said it once and I'll say it again.Since that's what many so-called "fans" want that will be the next step EON takes...when POS flops(and it will). They'll be so desperate that they'll try anything(including hiring Amy Crackhouse..or digging her up and reanimating her, with all likelihood :P )

I do agree with that, however I'm open for reinterpretations on storylines that didn't reach their potential. I always thought remakes of bad movies could have more potential to be good than remakes of classic films. Diamonds Are Forever should have been a proper revenge movie about Bond tracking down Blofeld for the death of his wife, I feel QOS is trying to accomplish what they should have done in 1971 only with the Vesper storyline.

Oh and don't even get me started about people thinking it's a good idea to remake the movies.Seriously. Sure,AVTAK isn't the best movie but does it need to be remade? No.

Either way, EON doesn't have the rights now so all they can do is make a variation of SPECTRE, hopefully in an interesting way with QUANTUM where it doesn't overwhelmingly feels like a retread.
Eon has No rights to the name Spectre? It was in so many films.

When the head cheese to Quantum, which probably will turn out to be a government official in the USA, is revealed to have a scar near his eye,in Craig's third film "The Bond Ultimatum", Blowfeld's return will be complete.

Oops! I meant films in general, not Bond films. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

They had the rights in the 60s but not anymore. McClory apparently was being a real dick to EON and decided to use his rights against them demanding profits and such for the use of SPECTRE and Blofeld, hence why they have never made an appearance in 30 something years. They were supposed to return after DAF, given that it had an open ending for them, but it didn't turn out that way.

If you wanna know how mad McClory was, he remade Thunderball once with Never Say Never Again, and in the 90s wanted to remake it AGAIN. So clearly the only thing he cared about wasn't how his characters were used, but how much money he could get out of it.

When "The Bond Ultimatum" gets released after "The Bourne Mimicry", we can only hope this reboot/prequel/avante garde/etc., experiment will be over and Eon will pick a more suitable, less divisive, more traditional, suave, handsome and proper actor for the role.

Oh no, I don't have a problem with remakes...as long as they're done correctly.BUT! What bugs me is the remakes of movies that don't really need to be remade(Bond or otherwise!)

Example(and I know people will say this movie was dreadful but I liked it :P): Dark Water was a remake of a Japanese horror movie and it's really good.See also:The Ring(the first one only though :P) But there are just as many really bad remakes of those movies. The market got crowded, everyone wanted a piece of the action,y'know?

Ugh, I hate those flicks. My friends dragged me to THE RING TWO in theaters. :x Generally, I hate watered down PG-13 horror flicks.

MI6 is nothing but the MSNBC(which is in the tank with Obama) of Bond sites. No humor, no alternate thought, but immediate dismissal of contrary thought. Proof: http://www.mi6forums.com/viewtopic.php?t=44177 It seems the arrogance there in 2005 is quite worse now. Their concept of this site is also 100% off base. Sweeney, Nash, Makeshift Python etc., are welcomed here with contrary thoughts, correct? Yet, as soon as someone takes a contrary initiative to the cloned thought at mi6, the thread is immediately locked, after condescending statements are made. Some things never change.
