But in the end, product placement has been an aspect that's expected in Bond films, all the way back to that shot of the Smirnoff bottle in Dr. No featuring Bond expressing his approval.

Seems that everyone here is forgetting about MOONRAKER's shameless product placement. You thought CR was bad with the Sony tech? How about MR's Air France, British Airways, Christian Dior, Marlboro, Seiko, and last but not least a giant wall featuring an ad for 7up.
But in the end, product placement has been an aspect that's expected in Bond films, all the way back to that shot of the Smirnoff bottle in Dr. No featuring Bond expressing his approval.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
As Stocks says, product placement has been around in the Bond films since day one. And it's not just OO7 who takes advantage of this.
To me this seems like another poor excuse to bash EON, Sony, QOS and Craig.
As for the different worldwide openings, well I'm sure there will be bootleg copies in the US before it's released. But then the same can be said for any number of movies. I have no doubt that QOS will be a successful film. I'm hoping that it's as good and popular as CR, and have yet to see any credible reason why it can't.
I know this site is opposed to Craig but that doesn't have to mean that all of Bond is off limits. Surely as fans of Bond some of you want QOS to succeed in order to keep the Bond franchise alive?
Craig may not be your thing and that's fine with me. I can understand your dislikes, but for me I can live with that. I like his portrayal of Bond, he won me over. But he wont be Bond forever, and maybe oneday we can have another Bond that we all enjoy.
Do you think that's possible? Is there an actor that all fans of the series would embrace?
Christian Bale maybe?
I'll expect the typical replies from some of the members here, but there are also plenty of sensible members who can have a discussion that post here still.

CommanderBond.net and MI6 seem to have a lot of criticism of the (some may be "former") Bond alternatives such as Owen, Jackman etc. Perhaps this is a response to the criticism of Craig, an attempt to support him.Captain Nash wrote:As Stocks says, product placement has been around in the Bond films since day one. Although he is popular with the gneral public, I do think Craig was a divisive choice. I'll be back on board if a new Bond is cast, as long as it's not Rob Schneider.
Bring back Bond!

Not really. But then again I didn't join a Bond site till CR filmed, but on the sites I discussed Bond at Owen and Jackman didn't get that much topics. Afterall Owen publicly stated he wasn't interested in Bond, even if EON approached him and Jackman was already a movie star and the only rumors I heard of him were in stupid women magazines picking Jude Law and Orlando Bloom as possible candidates.carl stromberg wrote: CommanderBond.net and MI6 seem to have a lot of criticism of the (some may be "former") Bond alternatives such as Owen, Jackman etc. Perhaps this is a response to the criticism of Craig, an attempt to support him.
In an alternative universe I think Owen and Bale would have made a good Bonds, especially Bale, but I'm happy with Craig so it's win win for me.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I've never thought of Owen as a good candidate for Bond, I don't know what it is. He's boring or something, though I have started to like him alot more in recent times.
Jackman however I could see as a Bond actor. I would've approved Jackman as James Bond, but wont dwell on a could've been.
Craig was a surprise choice, and one that at first I wasn't to sure of. But I felt all the backlash towards his casting was unfair, and decided that I would wait untill I'd seen the film, before I passed final judgement. The rest as they say is history. Though I will say if he doesn't give the goods in QOS or any future Bond film, then I'll be honest about my opinion. Brosnan was like God to me for a while, I loved TND and TWINE, but DAD lost me. I felt like Bond had gone down a path that I wasn't happy with and therefore can appreciate the situation many of you feel with Craig.
As a replacement (though don't hold your breath on this) I'd say the runners up for CR would be the most likely to take on the role for Bond mk:7 Sam Worthington or Henry Cavill. Both are fine actors, have I think the Bond look, and in particular Cavill would be a more suitable age.
If you had to choose, would you go with Worthington or Cavill for Bond #7?

If I could only go with either of them, Worthington. Cavill is way too young and by the time Craig's tenure ends Worthington should lose that baby face. But again, it's too early to tell and Craig's second film hasn't even been released yet. New names might pop up in the coming years and Worthington and Cavill might be forgotten.

Personally, I don't understand the obsessing over Bale being Bond. Good actor and all, but do you think he REALLY wants to be associated with not one, not two, but three franchises?

That's why I said "in an alternate universe". I know for sure that Bale will not be a part of Bond because he's already a big name and with his film being the 2nd highest grossing film of all time that certainly seals the deal.katied wrote:Personally, I don't understand the obsessing over Bale being Bond. Yes, but when I saw the Bruce Wayne scenes in TDK, I couldn't help thinking what a good Bond he would have made. I still hope Nolan gets to do a Bond film in the future, Bale or no Bale. He obviously would like to, judging by the comments he has made about Bond being an influence on TDK and about TSWLM being his favourite film.stockslivevan wrote:That's why I said "in an alternate universe". I'm afraid that is going to be added to the list of Bond fantasies that will never happen. Along with other fantasies such as Lewis Collins making a Bond in 1985.Kristatos wrote:Yes, but when I saw the Bruce Wayne scenes in TDK, I couldn't help thinking what a good Bond he would have made. I prefer Nolan to direct a Bond movie with a 7th Bond actor. And speaking of gadgets in BB and TDK, they look very Bondian.Kristatos wrote:Yes, but when I saw the Bruce Wayne scenes in TDK, I couldn't help thinking what a good Bond he would have made. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I just saw TDK for the first time. The opening reminded me of Pointbreak with Swayze robbing the banks with the president's masks. No mention was made as to why the Joker wore makeup, was there? Also, where did he get the electronic technology to get on everyone's television screen, ala Nicholson's Joker in 1989? The film had too much dark footage in cinematic terms, more black and white as opposed to color, and the 'origin' of the Joker was lacking to me in his explanation of why he smiled so much. All in all,it was OK, but not the great film I thought I would see and Rachel's fate should have been different. Bale is too much his own man now to be under paid by Eon any way, so the chances of Bale being Bond? ZERO! He will co-star with Worthington next summer, by coincidence.

The singlemindness of some Bond fans is ridiculous. "It can't be good if Q/Blofeld/Moneypenny(delete as applicable) are in it". Just look at how often topics on that subject have come up on the most popular Bond messageboards.
Same with Christian Bale.Give it a rest already.

Sigh. Given that EON turned down Spielberg for being too famous, you're probably right.carl stromberg wrote:I'm afraid that is going to be added to the list of Bond fantasies that will never happen. Along with other fantasies such as Lewis Collins making a Bond in 1985.

Which is the appropriate look for Batman. The film had too much dark footage in cinematic terms, more black and white as opposed to color
I thought it worked well that way, besides even by Batman Begins he was already The Joker hence the ending with the joker card Batman gets.the 'origin' of the Joker was lacking to me in his explanation of why he smiled so much.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
TDK has SURPASSED CR in the INTERNATIONAL box office now! Quite a feat for an American super hero, don't you think? Whoever thought that would happen? TDK will top 1 billion soon, currently at $949 million worldwide. Was it all Ledger's doing? Bale's Popularity? It certainly wasn't the franchise itself, for the prior Batman films never came close to this. Maybe Broccoli MIGHT pull a Sarah Palin and boldly go with a Bale for the 7th 007???????
