Campaigners Want QOS Poster Banned

Post by John Drake »

Campaigners want the advert for new 007 film Quantum Of Solace banned. The poster shows Bond star Daniel Craig, 40, posing with a weapon.

Anti-gun campaigners are outraged that the advert has been allowed after the spate of gun attacks across the UK.

A similar movie campaign has been banned by the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA), which ruled it could be seen to “glamorise the use of guns and violence”.

Two posters for Wanted, starring Angelina Jolie, 33, and James McAvoy, 29, were pulled.

Earlier Bond posters for 007 films like Octopussy and Goldeneye have shown guns.

But Lyn Costello, from Mothers Against Murder and Aggression, said: “Kids are killing each other – they are shooting and stabbing each other and everyone has to take responsibility for stopping this.”

An ASA spokesman said: “We have not received any complaints yet, but if we do then there is a process that has to be followed.”

Cheers for the link John.

I don't think a poster depicting a silhouette of Craig with a machine gun is repsonsible for gun crime. There are lots of other programs/films etc which are worse at glamourising violence, if you hold the view that they influence such acts of violence.

I don't think Daniel Craig is the best looking person on the planet but it's going a bit overboard to want the poster banned.

Meh, not a very good photo anyway.
However misguided they are trying to save lives, more than anyone here can say.
Two posters for Wanted were pulled so this probably will be too.

Banning a film poster is not going to stop gun crimes in the UK or any other country.
This is typical do gooders trying to do things the wrong way.
Get a life, seriously.

That is just stupid! was there eve a bond poster that didn't feature him holding a gun? Or Bounre for that matter?

They are not trying to save lives they are trying to tell people how to live! If some kid picks up a gun and robs a bank itsi not because he saw a poster for Bank Job and felt compelled to commit a robbery. It comes down to personal choice, it always does. Don't try to explain away bad behavior its what makes us human and is our God give choice of right and wrong.

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.
