I predict QoS will make thirty-seven dollars in total in North America but do a bit better in parts of Iceland.

The fact that they are moving POS around is troubling.I'll leave it at that.

No good records exist for Worldwide BO 1969-70.
It is do able, I'd need to put in a request that it be dug in to. Not related to a current project so thats not going to happen.

These older numbers get distorted over time because they were left in theaters longer in their first run and then re-released over and over again through the years.

Code: Select all

Butch $102,308,889
Love Bug $51,264,000
Midnight $44,785,053
Butch and Sundance cost 6 million earned domestically $102.3m - re-released 4 times 1969-74.
The one reference placed Butch and Sundances' first release as grossing more money worldwide than Goldfinger, $124.9m worldwide and less than Tunderball.

Doesn't matter OHMSS was not number 2 in 1969 or 70
At the time of release OHMSS sold the least tickets of any bond movie ever!
Dr. No sold 71m.

LTK still holds the record as worst performing Bond.

Code: Select all

Top movies 1970
1 Love Story (Para.) Dec 70 $48.700m

2 Airport (Univ.)Mar 70 $45.220 m

3 M*A*S*H (Fox) Jan 70$36.720 m

4 Patton (Fox) Feb 70 $28.100 m

5 The Aristocats (Disney)* Dec 70 $26.462 m

Perhaps we're mixing up on how we hold records. Most records I look into tend to confine films on their release years, even if they were released in December and made most of its money on the following year. Look at Titanic, it's listed as the #1 film of 1997 but you wouldn't find it anywhere on the top 1998 list. Technically it is inaccurate to say it's the top 1997 film, but that's how they work it out.

Here is a link for domestics on OHMSS. It has an optional worldwide results button but there is no info on how all the rest of the films did overseas.

Nah, we're not screwing up anything. Its been screwed for years now. Even researching a movie form the 1990's can be a pain in the ass!
They counted and recounted things differently so many time throughout the years.
I'm proud that fans like you and me kept the Bond records are both accurate and available!
I'm going to say that I see why you said #2, I still am pretty sure it wasn't close, but I don't think either of us can prove it outright with out a lot of unnecessary work.
It doesn't change the point you or I were trying to make.

I got one report from Disney claiming The Love Bug was top domestic BO 1969!
Midnight Cowboy has a cumulative BO of $200,966.00!
It'd take so long to get 40 years of seaweed out of the nets, it isn't worth the hassle. If I could find the data to prove it either way easily I'd gladly provide it.

You know, it's a good thing info on such things won't get lost in the digital age. I'm not surprised records of Bond flicks are kept intact. It's been a big successful franchise so surely records for these flicks would have more attention than THE LOVE BUG. :P

AIC QoS talkback fun where you are invited to ask Daniel Craig a question. Here are some highlights.

http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_disp ... nt_2255708

Ask him how someone as fugly and classless as he is got the role of James Bond? Short, to the point... And no one else will ask it.

DC is a great Bond. He's a bad motherf****r you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley. Quantum of Solace will make or break the new franchise. Goldeneye was great, but the following Brosnan Bonds sucked more and more. If they can improve on the previous one... holy s**t! Any word on a new Q?

Bond Isn't Supposed To Be A BAD motherf****r. He's supposed to be a COOL motherf****r. If you don't know the difference, I can't help you. And another thing, there is no NEW franchise. It's the same franchise that has been going on for 45 years and it will keep going on with or without Daniel Craig and long after you and I are dead. This "personal", "gritty", and "revenge" s**t are going to get very tired, very fast. And then you'll see the Bond I love come back again.

The new Bond is COOL and he's BAD ASS. Bond is the kind of guy ladies want and men want to be. The Bond of old doesn't fit that mold anymore. The new modernized Bond does.

Ain't buyin' it. I'll be that one person who notices the Emperor has no clothes on - or in that case, no cool. Craig isn't cool. When you scowl and flex muscles to show us how tough you are, you're not cool. Cool means never having to say you're tough or try so hard. Bond is supposed to be enjoying life in the midst of all the danger, Craig looks like he just had his wisdom teeth pulled. He has no charm, no suaveness, no wit about him, as all the other Bonds have (well, close call on Dalton). If you didn't like Bond, and now you do, I think you'll find yourself disappointed as time goes on, because Bond is not a grimacing thuggish miserable f**k and he'll come back to his established personality as soon as this "gritty" trend plays out. And then, the movies will be fun again

How much of the $150m+ that this film will cost to make is being covered by blatant product placement? And ask Daniel Craig if he cracks a smile at any point in this movie.

He's totally classy. For example, at the beginning he kicks a dudes ass in the bathroom, then WASHES HIS HANDS! Then later, he gets poisoned at the card table and his heart even stops beating, but he comes back, cool and collected and continued to play cards like nothing has happened! That's total class.

"DO I LOOK LIKE I GIVE A d**n?" This was the absolute nadir, the f**king bowel-steamy pits of the Bond series when Bond would remain reserved, glacially calm, courteous, has now become a shithead teenager ugmo.

Ask Craig to retire after QOS. We need someone who actually looks and acts like Bond. Sorry dude.

If you think The Spy Who Loved Me is the nadir of the Bond series - well, then, you sir, are not a Bond fan. Not by the longest strecth. Which is fine...we don't need you. But please. Just admit it. You're not a fan of the series, so you only like it when Bond is bustin' heads and bein' a dark badass (ooooh). I hope this movie disappoints you and actually entertains me.

Daniel Craig's Face is Pants

Ask him what its like to be in a movie with a s**t title

Casino Royale sucks, and we almost got a Tarantino directed Brosnan Casino Royale, which just salts the wounds. And my favorite Bond is Licence to Kill so I want you to know I have no problem with Bond holding women as they cry in the shower, as long as he bangs em afterwards, and maybe kicks a little ass. Craig plays a good castrated Bond, but that only appeases non-Bond fans. Crushing the icon is a one-shot payoff for people who hate machismo, its not a sustainable long term direction for the franchise.

All you twats moaning that James Bond isnt cool anymore or he isnt sauve anymore, grow the f**k up.In these films Bond has just become a 00 agent so hes not going to be sauve and as cool yet u morons. Craig is doing a great job

However, I posit that old Bond's boyish charms that are wasted on Craigists obviously worked on audiences who evaluated previous Bond movies to be excellent pieces of entertainment. You mistake Craig for macho because he is "ripped", but that too I find to be a mischaracterization. Bond is powerful, capable, and an efficient killer, but not a bodybuilder. Casino Royale is not a precursor to the Bond series that doesn't have Bond in full swing yet, it is a reinvention of the franchise or "reboot", and a shitty one. Yes, Die Another Day is awful, but it doesn't hate James Bond movies or throwaway the staples, it was just crappily done.

Was he upset to be called a midget by his co-star?

Why so serious? It's boring.

Why not be 'light', like MI:3? OK, that final minute was cheesy, but all in all MI:3 was far more exciting and enjoyable than Casino Royale. While still treating death more seriously than Bond, it had a light energy about it. The torture scene was far more dramatic. The action was WAY more exciting. (And didn't always rely on Bond chasing something. When did Bond action scenes get so boring? Oh, I know, since the Bourne films came out.) The Vatican sequence had people cheering. The bridge sequence had people speechless. The jump off the building was terrifying. And it NEVER felt, like all Bonds do, that they thought of a stunt sequence then put it into the script.

Ask him about SHOE LIFTS!!! Come on! He's supposed to be 007 and he's such a shortarse he has to wear stacked heels. After that you could ask the craggy one to retire so someone can make a James Bond film again. You know, cool, handsome, suave, tall, gadgets, wit, style, fun, hurrah!

Casino Royale was the shittiest Bond movie in years Will Quantum of Solace at least be fun? Casino Royale bored me to tears. It took itself way too seriously and played out more like a Jason Bourne flick than a true 007 adventure. RIP James Bond.

The problem with the whole "Bond is still learning to be Bond" argument is that Daniel Craig looks (and is) far too old for such an approach. (By comparison, the previous actors all appeared far younger than Craig in their respective debuts.) If the producers really wanted to go that route, they should've done it fully in Casino Royale. For Craig to still be learning the ropes just seems silly. How long will it take this 'rookie' Bond to get up to speed?

HE LOOKS LIKE THE LONG-FACED GOON OUT OF ROBSON AND JEROME. THIS REBOOT STINKS, HE'S NOT BOND ANYMORE, HE'S LIKE SUPER-SQUADDIE AND I WANTED THE BADDIES TO WIN. ASK HIM THAT!

When QoS becomes one of the best reviewed films of the year I hope all the haters finally f*k off. You'd think they would have learned their lesson after Casino Royale's critical and commercial success.

MY ARMUR IZ ALL GONE YU STWIPPED IT FRUM ME. How unintentionally hilarious was it to hear a guy with the imploding face and puffy fish lips say this line?

"Critics, audiences, and fans agree the new Bourne Bond is great!!!" If you could develop your own sense of taste and still find things you like in Casino Royale, you would realize they don't belong in a Bond movie.

If you don't want to see a super spy driving ludicrous cars and using implausable gizmos than James Bond isn't your cup of tea, slapping the James Bond brand on a Bourne movie to up the ticket sales is apalling. And Die Another Day's CGI sucked in the last 30 minutes but the plot was solid. I think with a better edit and a few million spent shoving it done your throat with the hype machine you'd think it was just as good as Casino or Goldeneye.

Ask Him what bothers him more...the fact that he looks like a 40-something-year-old meatpacker from Wisconsin? Or a 40-something-year-old has-been boxer? Just wondering...

HBO/Cinemax generally plays films for an entire year, sometimes two. It's a contract thing. If there were a ratings program for HBO then that crap film THE RETURN should have been taken off many months ago because I can't see who'd watch that other than hardcore Sarah Michelle Gallar fanatics.

Welcome back bj, been a while it seems. Hope all is well?
Actually it got me thinking, where have some of the regulars gone?
Okay so Kris and James are usually here, and Stocks, Sweeney, Arthur and myself can be found at least once a week, if not every few days. But I'm talking of some of the past regular users. Skywalker, Blowfeld, Commander 0077, Harvey Wallbanger, ID and even carl stromberg is as frequent as he used to be.
Where have you gone guys, the place isn't the same without you chaps. The discussion of late has been lacking. But I'm not going to open that can of worms. At least Mazer Rackham has been posting some worthwhile stuff, to keep the forum flowing.

I'm getting Deja Vu with your post! I think you are trying to spin against us, suggesting that we are losing support.

I think that fans are a bit fed up with Daniel Craig. There is a little more criticism: look at the recent QOS AICN talkback. I wonder if there will be more discontent if Eon produce a sloppy, by the numbers Bond film with QOS?

I had a bad breakup this summer with a woman I was seeing for a long time. I thought we were headed to commitment. She had other ideas. It came out of left field and threw me for a loop. I guess she pulled a Vesper Lynd on me! Anyway, day by day, I 'try' to put her behind me and move on. Do not worry Nash. This forum will be smoking once The Bourne Mimicry rolls around and Eon is exposed for what they are:Plagiarists in the spy genre film business. Sweeney will NOT enjoy TBM as much as he did CR. I know you will enjoy it, but even you may get tired of Craig's stunt work OTT action sequences, all done with the former Bourne Ultimatum's action director Eon put on board.

I see where you're coming from, though I cant say I see the support for Craig diminishing just yet.
If anything the buzz for QOS is about to start building. Many magazines I've read recently, in particular the ones my wife reads have had snippets of info regarding QOS or Daniel Craig. Whetting the appetite for things to come in november.
As for the site, with some of the big guns missing in action ie bj, and skywalker (though we know where skywalker can be found if needed)it seemed a little desolate here for a while. Thank the maker that Kris and James were on hand to keep the place from completely flying out of control with some of the recent shennanigans as far as discussions were going.
And you yourself have been a little less vocal recently carl. Isn't it nice to be missed, even if I am a pro-Craig fan. Haha.

Jesper Christensen stated 'the modern Bond is slightly dumb". "He is not that clever". Is this how you want to define Bond of the 21st century? I will admit that Craig is the PERFECT choice to portay a lack of intelligence in any role. :D
