I remember BJ predicting that CR wouldn't pass $50 million in the states, being so confident by his word that he actually placed a bet with members on MI6. I wonder if his estimation on QOS will be just as far off as his was for CR, that could mean good news for Craig and of course the DCINBers. :P

I have a colleague at work who has never (poor girl) seen a Bond film. She's wondering what the big appeal there is to them for me, so has asked to borrow one film for each of the six Bond actors.
8)
So first up, we were talking about my love of OP, and so I've lent her that to get her started.
Now Lazenby and Craig are easy (OHMSS and CR)
Then for Dalton I figured TLD, because I like it over LTK, and for Brosnan, well imo his first was easily his best, so GE.
Then with Connery I was thinking either GF or TB. TB I prefer, but it does drag on a bit in places, and GF is the more 'classic' of the two. It's also shorter and has a fast pace.
Anyway I just thought I'd share with you, what you would suggest, and maybe we'll have a new member to the Bond fan family. :D

Likewise, expect me to do the same if QOS makes more money than CR.

One of us will be the winner come November. I wonder who it will be....

With Potter out of the way, there's precious little competition, so my money's on Sweeney.

Personally, I couldn't care less how much money it makes as it won't have any bearing on whether I like the film or not. If the film did not make more money than CR, it would surely be a major disappointment for EON, although safe to say they would not admit it.

London - James Bond actor Daniel Craig has signed on to play Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, the first competitor to represent Great Britain in Olympic ski jumping. The short sighted and self-funded Edwards became a cult hero in the eighties and has now inspired a biopic - Eddie The Eagle - due to begin filming in 2009. Producer Dickie Corbett said he was delighted to have Craig involved in the project. "Not only is Daniel a big fan of Eddie," said Corbett. "But he actually looks a bit like him. The film will be an uplifting tale about fighting agaisnt the odds to achieve your dreams and, of course, very funny. I think audiences will laugh the moment they see Daniel in Eddie's glasses." Edwards was also the World No 9 in Amateur Speed-skiing (106.8mph) and the Stunt Jumping World Record Holder (10 cars/6 buses).

'Eddie The Eagle' is due in cinemas in late 2009.

stockslivevan wrote:Even if it does flop (which is unlikely given NO Bond film has ever flopped), there wouldn't be any way to deny. I'd rather have a good film that flopped over a bad one that was successful, but overall I'd mostly want a good film to be successful. :)
NSNA wasn't a flop?
"Never had a flop" is bit of revisionist history.
OHMSS and TMWGG and LTK Cubby considered flops and changed the direction of Bond becasue of them. Even his stepson admitted LTK was a flop, years ago admittedly. Seems now a days the company line is "borrowed" from the Papacy. Infallible.

I stand by my expectations for QOS BO, several reasons behind it mostly trade secrets.;)

QOS is helped by inflation (all movies are), Sony giving away tickets that will count as sales, Harry Potter sequel postponed helps eliminate the big BO choices. All in all these things help however the delay may be more costly. The gains listed might easily be wiped away by the internet leaks and new movies of all types whittling away at the targeted audience. Audience redundancy will likely be damaged by the range of new films, it doesn't take a major BO rival to cripple a movies intake.
Last time Craigs was unknown and CR had little competition until Dec 24th. Winter 2006 was anemic.

I discount HarryP's absence being as big a factor as some seem to count on it being. The audiences are completely different, and HP is more family oriented. Bond is not. Of Course Bond22 is helped by a major name not being there as competition, but not to the extreme extent hoped for.

Now transported 3 with the shaved headed wonder will draw off those who would have gone to QOS for the first time or the second.
Madagascar sequel will keep drawing families and children through the winter holidays.
Twilight will draw young girls and the boys who want to be near them.
Four Christmases kicks off the holiday flicks.
Soul Men will draw its own memorial crowd
Australia will be date movie and a Oscar draw

All of this not counting Octobers holdovers and Decembers big pushes. QOS has a limited time and limited audience to capture. Also it is going be released in 3 months or so on home video and VOD and is probably a bigger factor than internet pilfering.

My expectations stand, but not becasue of the reasons listed above.

There have definitely been some flops. I think it's ridiculous to say there never have been any sub-par Bond films(though some "true" fans-that is absurd but I digress- )Bond fans say that you can't be a true fan if you don't like all the films.Again, I reiterate:That is absurd.

Wasn't OHMSS the second highest grossing film of 1969? I can't see how that's a flop. TMWTGG's budget was $7 million, grossing$97 million. LTK made $156 million, with a budget of $32 million. How are those flops? I agree that by Bond standards they are certainly sub-par performance wise but overall they are not flat out flops like a lot of people claim.

No EON Bond film has ever lost money (not sure about NSNA or CR67).

OP's gross was $187 million, while NSNA's was $160 million, and AVTAK made less than the either. If NSNA is considered a flop, shouldn't the other two apply?
