Quantum opening moved again

Quantum Of Solace Shifts US Release Date
Now opening on November 14

OK readers – do you want the good news or the bad news?

The bad news first, eh? Looks like you’ll have to wait an extra week to clap your peepers on Suntam Of Quolace, Daniel Craig’s second outing as James Bond, after Sony pushed it back a week, from November 7 to November 14.

The good news? That’s only in the States – we Brits still get to see it on October 31! Bwahahahahahahahahahahaha! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! (Empire correspondent stops laughing… realises he lives in LA; curses self; starts crying)

The reason for the move? Well, Sony wanted to open Quantum Of Solace near the Thanksgiving holiday – and, after the departure of Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince from the November 21 weekend, November 14 suddenly became a whole lot more attractive and a d**n sight more lucrative.

"Harry Potter moving out gave us an opportunity to get a little closer to the holidays, which has always been the traditional Bond spot," Sony worldwide marketing and distribution chairman Jeff Blake told The Hollywood Reporter. "Bond has a really good history of not only playing through Thanksgiving but going deep into the Christmas holidays."

He’s not wrong – as The World Is Not Enough attested, Bond has a long history of going deep into Christmas. Ahem. Oo-er. Etc.

The date change will put Bond up against Baz Lurhmann’s Australia, with Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman, and Soul Men, a comedy starring Sam Jackson and the late Bernic Mac (and Isaac Hayes). We think it’s fairly safe to say that Bond will steamroller them both.

By the way, Role Models, a comedy with Paul Rudd and Seann William Scott, has moved to November 7 from November 14, where it will now open against Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.

Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’re off to try to book a flight home to Blighty for late October.

What a bunch of cowards. If Craig is supposed to be a blockbusting Bond, how come they keep moving the opening around.
Bring back Bond!

Nah, it makes sense for the American market, nothing to do with being cowardice. The whole thing is just for a bigger chance of making the money, pure and simple. However, it sucks that you Brits get to enjoy the pie while we on the states have to wait for two weeks. bas***ds.

Big mistake. Costly mistake too consider by the time QOS gets to the US it will be available on the torrents for 2 weeks

Doesn't sound too bad before they realize that punks like me the audience being targeted will already have seen it
;)not that I'm encouraging punkass anarchy ;)

Doesn't quite work like that. What this does is give them a better foothold in the USA which seems to be a major concern this time round.

The buzz may wear off do to it being out two weeks in the UK, message boards talking it to death removes some of the mystique. It may die a death of the story already being told online. It might get some hype. Also might get bumped to the back burner by some unforeseen smash hit refusing to die like TDK this summer.

Twilight got bumped up to take Harry Potter's spot, it is supposed to have quite a loyal following of young readers like Potter has. I sort of doubt it can bring the heat.

Given that, I'll have to stay away from any spoiler threads. Luckily DCINB and MI6 feature spoiler tags so I suppose I shouldn't worry too much.

This must be really annoying for American fans who like Craig. They'll have to avoid the internet for two weeks.

Oct 31st!
what a bad night to open a movie! unless it is a Halloween film, Freddy v Jason 10 or something.

Then again maybe it does belong here, the more i think about it the more I realize it is a horror film ;)

Yes. They recycle the molds for those.
The easy part is finding the mask and who wouldn't be scared by a Russian assassin at the door, the hard part for those wearing the mask is to learn to mumble their voice correctly
