Advertisers to pump £50m into 007's Quantum of Solace

JAMES BOND’s next outing, in Quantum of Solace, will be backed by a £50m advertising campaign from the companies whose products will appear in the movie. The Bond franchise has long been a favourite with brands, but 007 - now Daniel Craig, pictured above with co-star Olga Kurylenko - has become more choosy about who he does business with.

Sony Pictures has cut the number of product placements after 2002’s Die Another Day had so many that critics dubbed it Buy Another Day.

The companies lined up for Quantum are Ford, Heineken, Omega, Smirnoff, Sony and Virgin Atlantic. The metallic gold Ford Ka driven by Kurylenko will become generally available in November and the Sony Ericsson C902 Cybershot mobile phone will also be launched when the picture is released.

Smirnoff has the longest history with Bond. The Diageo-owned brand appeared in 1962’s Dr No, although the secret agent did have a brief fling with rival Finlandia.
Bring back Bond!

Beat me to it!

Between DAD and CR, CR is the one that most agree is a commercial sell out. Even people who love CR can admit it is sometimes painful to watch because of the product placements. Some of the worst of recent movies. Only Transformers was more blatant. Surprisingly Sony's pride and joy, Spidey, is not as burdened as the new Bourne again "Bond" 2.0 series.

Also Sony didn't cut the number, advertisers opted out when production was delayed for years and again when Pierce was no longer associated with Bond 21.
Sony took proprietary interest in CR giving themselves the equivalent of what it cost to produce in product placement. Some would argue that are still using the Bond series to try to prop up their company by using the classic series to sell Blu-ray.

"The companies lined up for Quantum are Ford, Heineken, Omega, Smirnoff, Sony and Virgin Atlantic." Good the gangs all back then. Boy Craig was as subtle as NASCAR shilling that Omega wasn't he.
The long lingering paused in the movie to center on the grill of the Ford family product. Or the Sony mobile phone.

Have you Driven a ford lately? No? Then there is probably a good reason.

The only one of those I don't remember from CR is Heineken. Looks like the "Bond to drink beer" silly season tabloid rumour that was knocking around before CR could become a reality this time.

Heinekin have been sponsoring Bond for years now. There was an advert with Eva Green on set during CR for Heineken -

And in Russian...

One from TWINE -

Here is a list of several previous brands from Bond films -

I don't have a problem with sponsored marketing in Bond films at all. In fact, I'm probably one of the few suckers that it works on. I bought the Philishaver from DAD, the Sunspel top from CR, the white braces from CR, and was almost close to even buying the very same spec Mondeo in CR.

I know, I'm sad....

Is Richard Branson back again in the next one? I thought he stole Casino Royale with that delightful cameo.

Whats the difference? Same advertising crap shoved down our throat. Outrageous seeing as we have to pay to watch it on top of the commercials the theater packs in for 20 minutes after the movies should have started.
Bond used to be more subtle but at least its not as bad as a Bay movie. May he burn in hell.
