So you agree with it being a new classic? What happened? I thought you didn't like it anymore? :P Glad to see you've come back to the pro-Craig side. :D

I don't think that Casino Royale can be in the top 20 films made since 1982.

p.s. who is that midget in your top picture Stocksivian. :D :D

Well, we all knew that the critics just luuurve CR, and hate every other Bond film since OHMSS (or FRWL for the real purists).

There was a big debate over this list at AIC. Here are the CR related comments I found with a quick skim through.

http://www.aintitcool.com/talkback_disp ... nt_2129645

Casino Royale ahead of Fargo? Um, yeah.

Casino Royale as one of the best films of the past 25 years?

Casino Royale above Schindlers list? !!!

Casino Royale was a great spy film....but a James Bond Film ???? Sorry I don't buy Craig as Bond.....

19 - Casino Royale WTF!?! Casino Royale was such an average movie, the only reason why anyone paid attention to it was because the last few James Bond films all sucked. There are literally 1000s of films in the last 25 years that are better than it.

You've got to be freaking kidding me. That card game sequence literally put me to sleep in the theaters. Granted, I'd been awake for 33 hours at that point, but I can guarantee I'd NEVER fall asleep during Raiders. The movie is good but does NOT deserve to be that high on the list.

As much as I like Casino Royale I don't think it should be on the list.

Casino Royale = worst Bond movie ever. It's an okay action flick, a glossy hollywood blockbuster. But in terms of James Bond it is an abortion and a disgrace to call itself James Bond. Bond is reduced to an ugmo, looks like an albino gorilla. Or Putin. Acts like a trashy hothead/bumbling idiot (this is supposed to make him "human" and "real"), zero class, when asked if his martini shaken or stirred practically says "f**k off", I'm sure the 15-year-olds eat this s**t up and think it's "badass" but James Bond fans the world over groan while Ian Fleming turns in his grave. f**k-awful weak villains. Bond walks around in a ball-hugger and shows more skin then the ladies here. Nauseating dialogue like "my armor is all gone you stripped it from me" and "whatever I am, I'm yours" Did Lucas write this? This movie attempts to be "Flemingesque" and "gritty" while it's just a Brosnan Bond with fresh shiny coating. It's a lie masqerading as respectable. I'll even watch the Brosnan Bonds, at least they know they're blockbuster actioners. Oh and this movie doesn't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as real classic Bonds like From Russia With Love or On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

I feel Casino is better than people give it credit for, and there are some classic sequences in the film. It deserves a place somewhere in this list.

I really liked Casino Royale but I don't think it belongs on this Top 100 list. I think you are fighting a losing battle. Very good film? Yes. Best Bond film since The Spy Who Loved Me? Probably. One of the Top 100 films of the last 25 years? Nope. Comparable to Raiders of the Lost Ark? Not on your life.

Casino Royale is good, BUT...better and "more classic" than Aliens, Fight Club, and Fargo? Methinks not.

To those who hate Casino Royale, leave David Niven alone! But seriously, you can't deny that at least it's gotten people interested in Bond again. It's kinda like hating RTD for Doctor Who -sure his stories are a bit meh, but he got the show back on the air.

I remember Owen G. picking Casino Royale as film of the year back in '06, so that's probably (or improbably) why it's so high. Sure it was a nice change from the typical Bond films that have been released for the past 40 years, but it ain't top 100 best movies of the past 25 years material. Maybe if you're picking top 100 average movies of the past 25 years.

Casino Royale over Goldeneye????

This comment caught my eye, because it's so...wrong. The two are by no means comparable. Doctor Who had not been on the air for over 15 years when it was revived, and was generally regarded as a joke outside its hardcore fanbase (which included me, I have to say in the interests of full disclosure). Bond, on the other hand, had only been away for 4 years and had just scored a huge box-office hit with DAD, whatever we may think of that film's shortcomings. Spinoffs like video games and continuation novels continued to sell in brisk numbers. There's no evidence that people had lost interest in Bond.

I was going to comment on that particular post but I thought I'd leave it. It's cobblers this idea that CR got people interested in James Bond again. They were interested enough to see DAD in large numbers in 2002 and would doubtless have turned out for another film in 2004 if one had appeared.

The first part of the series four finale of Doctor Who on saturday was a corker btw.

But it made you go and see CR 11 times at the cinema. I thought you didn't go and see any Brozza films at the cinema. Before that it was TLD. They must have done something right....

Thats was some funny stuff to read. I agree with him about the 15-year-olds liking it. It does appear the young bucks love Daniel Craig...the same for non-traditional Bond fans as well. Most of the die hard Bond fans I know don't like him. I just watched the trailer for the new movie and I'm not going to get my hopes all high like I did two years ago. I won't make that mistake again. It appears the villian is going to be weak again. Looks like some Harry Potter-type dude walking down the steps with his father's tux on. Who's doing the casting in these films? Can't we get a Franz Sanchez-type dude who is hardcore and can go toe-to-toe against this "new" 007?
