Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Before Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond, lots of handsome actors were linked with the part.
Now after Craig has been cast, every other Bond alternative is dismissed as not rugged enough or a "pretty boy". What a bizarre world we are living in. James Bond is supposed to be handsome, and is described as such in the novels. Honey Ryder said (I paraphrase) :"you are perfect". Vesper and Tatiania said he is very handsome. He is also described as a rough looking character, but saying he looks as rough as Daniel Craig is stretching things a bit. Many Craig fans have admitted so.
If the handsome Bond paradigm has been dropped, then there will be a another strange piece of casting for Craig's successor.
Cavill would be an excellent young Bond, and could grow into the role. The way some people talk about him you'd think he was Pee Wee Herman.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Not really. He was also decribed having a "cruel look", another thing Anti-Craigs avoid bringing up. I wouldn't dismiss a contender if he had a similar look to Connery and Dalton whom were both handsome yet rough looking. I only dismiss the Brosnan pretty boy lot. Always have, even before Craig got the role. Most of the contenders were coming off of Brosnan Bond because it would have seemed logical they would continue with that baby face angle Hollywood has taken since the 90s, thankfully they didn't.Gary Seven wrote:Before Daniel Craig was cast as James Bond, lots of handsome actors were linked with the part. There are a lot of women describing Craig as handsome, even former Bond girls such as Jane Seymour and Rosamound Pike. Just because he isn't handsome enough for a minority group of fans doesn't make it true, and to be fair neither for the majority. It's all subjective. But in the end most have described Craig as being handsome and that's a fact not even DCINB can debunk.Honey Ryder said (I paraphrase) :"you are perfect". For Bond standards, yes. Maybe in a few years if he looses that baby face he might look the part after Craig has finished.Cavill would be an excellent young Bond, and could grow into the role. The way some people talk about him you'd think he was Pee Wee Herman.

http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809961074/video/8378077 There will be more than a Quantum Of Solace for many here once Craig vacates the role of Bond. With SATC and Hulk doing over $50 million in the USA opening weekend, anything less with with this film will be a failure for Eon. The July 2 trailer will probably feature all action sequences, ala John McClane. Count on it. I also realized that Craig could actually stand in a wax museum and nobody would even realize he was not a statue, for his skin and face are unnaturally aged for his 40 years on this planet. He looks so much smaller in stature as well, and for those who think Craig makes you believe he could actually kill you, I ask you one question:What are you smoking? He looks non-threatening and serves no other purpose in this film than to do as many stunts as possible to compensate for his shortcomings as a proper Bond. Gritty? Not this film.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Not only that the trailer is attached to Hancock, the new Will Smith film. I have a feeling a lot of die-hards will be buying tickets to Hancock just so they can see the trailer for QOS and then sneak into another movie.I can't say I blame them

Count me out of that one. I'll just wait online, at least I won't have to pay for anything.katied wrote:Not only that the trailer is attached to Hancock, the new Will Smith film. Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Yeah..people REALLY shouldn't be spending their hard earned cash just to see a trailer, especially given how expensive it is to go to the movies nowadays.

Are you sure? Because the last time you predicted the results for CR it didn't quite match with the facts.bjmdds wrote:http://movies.yahoo.com/movie/1809961074/video/8378077 There will be more than a Quantum Of Solace for many here once Craig vacates the role of Bond. Casino Royale took in $105 million in the UK, Malta, and Ireland, in 2006, which even topped HP's $101 million in 2007 there. What was the fascination in the UK that gave the film it's huge numbers there? Was it more 1)Craig as Bond OR 2)the gritty reboot? Choose ONE only, for those who reside in the UK and lived through it's run there.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
It's no mystery that Bond has always been the most popular in the UK, it was just more blatantly obvious when America didn't seem go along with the craze UK and international audiences were going through. Remember that CR was #1 in a lot of countries except for America and even if you subtract the domestic numbers from the worldwide results CR would be merely $5 million short of DAD. That's how big it was.
Die Another Day's Worldwide: $431
Casino Royale's International: $426
Unlike a lot of films, Bond films don't have to rely on America as much as other action films. Look at Licence to Kill, despite doing poorly in the US, it was still an international hit. America just hasn't really been that crazy for Bond since the 60s.

You are right stocks. The Bond franchise is one of the few that truly is a worldwide audience, and doesn't depend heavily on the US alone. I'm not sure why Bond has not been that popular in the US since the 70's.stockslivevan wrote:It's no mystery that Bond has always been the most popular in the UK, it was just more blatantly obvious when America didn't seem go along with the craze UK and international audiences were going through. For me personally it was the gritty reboot, but I guess for the average Joe Public, it was probably Craig as Bond.bjmdds wrote:Casino Royale took in $105 million in the UK, Malta, and Ireland, in 2006, which even topped HP's $101 million in 2007 there. on conventional action, and was also devoid of the slapstick comedy, which had hampered previous films.
Plus people seemed to like Craig anyway.
As i have said before.. i think in the US, Bond is not so big as you have a large number of other homegrown cinema heroes which appeal more to the public there!!
Dont forget the QOS trailer will be available online at Yahoo on the 2nd July.........apparently.

I have to say that Craig looks a lot younger in this footage.

It was the first James Bond film for four years and had featured in the British tabloids just about every single day since November 2005 with all the stories about Craig having his teeth knocked out and being beaten up by Cub Scouts. I can't speak for anywhere else but it's a big thing when a Bond film comes out in Britain for tradition if nothing else. Also, the UK is an easier market to flood. I've probably said this before but I recall being in a supermarket before CR came out and seeing DC's mug on about ten magazines. Finally, it appealed more to non-Bond fans because it was more of a generic reading of 007 taken mostly from Jason Bourne.
