Dumb Bond Moments

Post by stockslivevan »

This thread is dedicated to one of the most bizarre moments in Bond films, an example is in AVTAK with Moore's nads getting hit by an antenna.

Or just really retarded bits such as this one:

"Maybe if I crouch behind this invisible car, no one could possibly see me behind it."

I imagine a lot of you folks will be throwing Craig bits, try to keep this thread broad, it isn't just about CR you know. :P

My top 10 worst moments (in no particular order) -

1. The entire gondola scene from MR, with the double-taking pigeon really topping it off
2. The invisible car
3. Telling a snake to hiss off
4. Tarzan yells
5. Beach Boys song
6. Cheesy slide whistle effect on the car stunt from TMWTGG
7. The `You've just killed James Bond' scene from DAF
8. Underwater tie-straightening in TWINE
9. The now infamous iceberg surfing scene from DAD
10. Come to think of it - DAD, the entire film

Similar to my list, except I'd take out 9 and 10 (DAD isn't as far down my list as yours - it's kind of mid-table for me) and add telling a tiger to "sit" and the "tennis match", both from OP.

If Bond is so intellectually unchallenging for you, why don't you go an read your Strindberg works.

It is supposed to be fun.

When Daniel Craig is walking around in the desert in a tuxedo in Quantum Of Solace after a set piece action sequence, you will saying "Oh how wonderful, what a great exploration of Fleming's Bond psyche".

I'm a sucker for a gadget, so I didn't mind the invisible car too much, though the scene where Nearly Headless Q introduces it made me cringe a little - the comedy was a little too broad for my tastes. Maybe I should take that off my list too. I'm glad you mentioned AVTAK, as you've given me the perfect Dumb Bond Moment to replace it with - Max Zorin's getaway blimp!

That line doesn't make sense. A Cubby addition I think.

I read somewhere last year that the line was an old Mob/ganster bribe. They would offer top shelf materials in exchange for other stuff or favours. I don't know where I read that... likely MI6... but can't seem to locate the source now.

But it would only make sense to those few that know about mafia stuff. So maybe it was an insider joke.

Kind of like "Quantum of Solace" except everyone is asking and getting the answer to it instead. :)
