The top 2 villains you posted are C-L-A-S-S-I-C Bond villains. The bottom villain is tedious and is no comparison IMO to the top two. Your pictures have augmented my opinion of CR's value vs. Connery's films.stockslivevan wrote:Wake up guys...
We've had short villains before, why are you guys suddenly paying attention to their height now after 46 years? Oh yeah, to come up with a "oh they only cast a short actor for the villain because of Craig's height" BS?![]()
Be fair guys, we've already had one villain taller than Craig anyway.
Agreed? Let's be gentleman like those two.

In Moonraker Bond is 37 and in GF he's 41. In GF it's stated that he's only been in the Double-O section for six years, takeway that much and he's 35 years old in 1953, the year Casino Royale is set.

I never claimed him to be a classic villain, I was bringing up that he was taller than Craig.bjmdds wrote:The top 2 villains you posted are C-L-A-S-S-I-C Bond villains. He's one of Ian Fleming's least fleshed out villains in the novels, never getting the big treatment like the classic characters Drax, Dr. No and Goldfinger since the story was more focused on Bond and his relationship with Vesper.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
http://www.bondmovies.com/board/showthread.php?t=15371 This about sums up the upcoming film. Forster wants an 'environmental message film' about water conservation. He even had a rookie writer clean up Haggis' first original Bond script. The terrain is a desolate desert, not a lavish tropical paradise as we all are accustomed to, and Bond is involved in a plot to save a country's fresh water supply
. The villain looks almost comical, not ruthless, supposedly has sexual issues, and has a henchman who looks like Herman Munster
. There will be plenty of car chase scenes(The Bourne Mimicry factor), plenty of explosions with glass flying everywhere(OTT action),and Craig's Bond getting dirty, swinging on vines, while out for revenge. There is a good chance that the critics will NOT give this film the pre-opening accolades that CR received which will most likely lower it's box office take compared to CR, especially in the USA.

Bj, I seem to remember you had a similar doom-and-gloom stance before CR, and we all know what happened there. You of all people should know by now that you cannot predict how the BO will turn out....bjmdds wrote:http://www.bondmovies.com/board/showthread.php?t=15371 This about sums up the upcoming film. Does the Sweeney find the QOS:TBM script content consistent with what he enjoys with a Bond film? Water supply being re-routed in a country is a worthy Bondian mission?

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I'm taking a wait and see attitude. But if it is even the *slightest* bit cr*ap,my review(and I will review it here) will reflect that

Goldfinger was 8 or 9 years after Casino Royale, yet Bond is stated as only having his 00 licence for 6 years. This is one of Fleming's famous continuity errors, and I think he had too many of these

Bring back Bond!

Why is it any worse a McGuffin than, say, all the gold in Fort Knox being irradiated or Bond having to steal a translation device from the Russians?bjmdds wrote:Does the Sweeney find the QOS:TBM script content consistent with what he enjoys with a Bond film? Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Goldfinger and From Russia With Love's storyline was classic iconic Bond. What is the 'drawing' power of a Bond mission dealing with desert terrain with the 'characters' they have cast for this film, whereby a water supply gets diverted? Will QOS:TBM be more National Geographic than spy 'intrigue'? I knew Forster's take on life would impact what he feels a Bond film should be. We do not need political underlying "green" environmental messages, where the desolate terrain is supposedly equated to Bond's need for SOLACE after Vesper's end, do we?

Re: Re:
It's been awhile since I read CR, and I won't be reading it until after I've finished all the Fleming novels. But is it specifically stated that Bond got his 00 licence right after his first two kills or that since he already had two kills during the war he was qualified for it for years before actually earning it? It's a very honorable rank. I do recall Bond getting recruited at age 21 (give or take) for intelligence duties then working his way up, eventually getting the big promotion in his 30s.carl stromberg wrote:He got his 00 licence for two kills during WWII, it states in Casino Royale (the novel). But how can you say that already before you've even seen the story unfold? Oh, my mistake, you've already prejudged the film like CR: not giving it a bloody chance.bjmdds wrote:Goldfinger and From Russia With Love's storyline was classic iconic Bond. I don't know that much about the script yet. I'm trying to avoid as many spoilers as possible. I'd rather judge the film properly when I see it in the cinema, script an' all.bjmdds wrote:Does the Sweeney find the QOS:TBM script content consistent with what he enjoys with a Bond film? I don't know that much about the story for QOS yet, and frankly I don't want to. But I do know that part of the story involves water supply. I myself have no problem with this, so long as it works within the movie. TWINE had a storyline about oil supply. I don't see to much difference. The Bond films that don't work for me on a story level are films like YOLT or MR. Villains hollowing out volcanoes or building space stations without anyone noticing, and then employing guys from rent-a-goon all to be kitted out in snazzy yellow or orange boilersuits. But I still love those two films. As with Stocks and The Sweeney I to wonder why you can't wait for QOS to come out, before you pass judgement. As much as you believe you can, you or we cannot predict the future. No matter what the current trend is, or oil prices, or whether there is an depression. Wait untill you/ we've all seen the finished film, and then let the fun begin.
