That kind of contradicts the previous story, which said that the name of the new Bond won't be known for some time. Personally, I think the sooner the better, so we can finally put an end to all the speculation. But I won't hold my breath.

Bond 26 Script “Nowhere Near Ready” as Amazon/MGM’s Plans Remain Unclear

So, as the Bond rumors persist, with the UK tabloids seemingly anointing a new frontrunner almost every other week, and contradictory intel colliding from all sides, an actual reputable outlet is posing a question no one’s even thought to ask: what if Amazon has no plan? What if they just don’t know what they’re doing?

More than a year after Amazon gained creative control of the James Bond franchise, the series appears to be playing a waiting game. Rather than momentum, the transition has produced silence, and the gap between films is now on track to become the longest in the franchise’s history. Even the previously record-setting hiatus between “Licence to Kill” (1989) and “GoldenEye” (1995) will be surpassed, with “No Time to Die” having been released in 2021 and a new film arriving, at the very earliest, in 2028.

A new report written by The Telegraph’s Tim Robey (“Amazon don't know what to do with it'”: What's going on with James Bond?”) says the script, from Steven Knight, is “nowhere near ready,” while key creative figures remain otherwise occupied. Denis Villeneuve is tied up with post-production work on “Dune: Part Three,” and might be tied up to that film until Oscar season wraps in March 2027. Meanwhile, Knight is busy with other major projects, including the recent “Immortal Man,” the Netflix series “House of Guinness,” and an untitled sequel series to “Peaky Blinders.”

Behind the scenes, the uncertainty appears to extend beyond scheduling delays. Robey relays, anecdotally, that an unnamed middle-aged American film executive claims the head honchos at Amazon/MGM are “fed up with even thinking about 007’s future.”

Do you blame them? With no script, no confirmed vision, and no opportunity yet for creative chemistry to develop between Denis Villeneuve and Steven Knight, perhaps the real key is patience—taking the time to shape a project still searching for its next identity. If that results in a film not arriving until 2029—or, God forbid, 2030—then so be it.

James Chapman, professor of film studies at Leicester University and Bond historian, puts it bluntly: “They have bought this incredibly lucrative franchise, one with a very well-established brand identity, and I’m just getting the impression that they don’t know what to do with it.”

Of course, the key factor here is Knight, who’s writing Bond 26 for Villeneuve and Amazon/MGM. With credits that include “Peaky Blinders” and “Eastern Promises,” the expectation would be that a writer known for gritty, violent storytelling might deliver a grittier, more violent Bond. But is that what Amazon wants? Is that what Villeneuve wants? Maybe it’s time to get all these parties in a room and figure out what the actual plan is.

I think that sounds more like the EON years. To me, it feels like Amazon do have a plan, but it's behind schedule. Whereas Babbzy always seemed to be waiting for another True Lies or Bourne Identity to redefine the spy genre, so she could copy it.

If we were in charge the film would have been made 3 years ago with Aidan Turner on a mission to save the world! Amazon is no better than Broccoli after planning this move to take over the franchise. This 'young' Bond notion is irrelevant. People want to see a mature Bond on a mission, not making mistakes as a new recruit for the UK Navy. What a joke but with Pascal in charge I am not surprised. CASE CLOSED!

I'm unconvinced by this rumour about the next film being an origin story. They're about to release a video game featuring Bond's origin story. My suspicion is that lazy entertainment "journalists" have conflated this with statements about casting a younger actor so that they can keep him around for more than two films, to create this rumour.

And Denis Villeneuve seems to be calling the shots more than Pascal or Heyman. I get the impression that he is far more involved with every aspect of production than, say, Martin Campbell was the last time we were in this situation.

I'm inclined to agree with Kris, this is definitely a Denis Villeneuve film (for better or worse), why else bring in a super expensive auteur to launch this new era. Unlike Babz who brought them in so she could polish her lapel at Hollywood parties as she lists in her most snobbish accent all the "truly, wonderfully, fabulously, awfully wonderful people" she's worked with.

Incidentally, I did read a story (unsourced, from a site I wasn't familiar with, so I didn't give it much credence) saying the opposite - that Villeneuve wants to return to standalone missions, rather than soap opera storylines spanning multiple films.

I can see topics with Tapatalk again. But I did have a hard time logging back in. It seemed like I had a number of failed logins, which I didn’t. I’d guess the bots try to block access by trying to login under known good user names. So real users are blocked.

In bond related news,
I missed if anyone had mentioned the new game coming out 007 first light. PlayStation has a special edition ps5 controller for the game. That’s how I found out about it. There are very expensive game bundles for the collectors.

I’m not sure how big a deal it will be because the games really died off during the Craig era. I think the last really good ones were everything or nothing & from Russia with love.

007 first light is another origins story. Although the team behind it I like some of their games.

Unless it’s a really exceptional game, I don’t expect it to be a breakout hit. Or have a good multiplayer mode.
I think we had so many mediocre bond games that it is going to be hard to win over in a new generation who are really not fans of the series. The snails pace that Babs made the movies at the lackluster state of the book series. Lack of real news from MGM. Bond has been almost stagnant for nearly 2 decades.


I hope the new game does well and I hope it’s a good story. I’m just not sure it’s going to be enough. other than having the 007 name there may be nothing else related to bond about the game

To Omega's point yeah the games fell off a cliff during the Craig years, too many slap dash cash grabs, go figure for the Craig era. The new one is a hard one to nail down, the positive is it's made by the company behind the wildly popular Hitman games and it had a lot of buzz leading up to release, then game play was previewed.

First and foremost, Hitman was a wide open sandbox giving infinite options of approach to accomplish the missions, whereas Bond looks to be far more linear and "on rails" by comparison.

Next we have an origin storyline which nobody really wants from Bond, not on film not anywhere.

Also I've seen much made about the characters and complaints about "forced diversity" in the, what would you call it for a video game, casting? Look this complaint is not mine, but it seemed to be the only discussion about the game for awhile. I can't say that bodes well for it.
