Info on the origins of the Scott Rose-Marsh hoax, that conveniently glosses over Deadline's role in spreading that hoax.

If this turns out to be true, BJ will be very unhappy:

Enter Pierce Brosnan, who had been offered the role of Bond nine years earlier, but was forced to not participate due to his work on Remington Steele. Sporting a tux, a Walther PPK, and the keys to a BMW, the world gots its first new Bond in years with his arrival, and on January 16, 1995, 31 years ago today, cameras started rolling on GoldenEye, his first film.

Deadline’s Justin Kroll, guesting on the My Mom’s Basement podcast, saying his sources indicate that the new James Bond will likely be cast in the middle of this year, with filming starting late this year or early next year. Now, I wouldn’t bet on “late this year,” considering Villeneuve will be all over the world promoting “Dune 3” in November and December. But January 2027? That sounds about right. One insider told Kroll the new Bond needs to look like “he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice” — a clear return to Fleming’s more brutal version of the character. Sources also indicate that Knight is drawing heavily from Fleming’s earliest novels, which could mean a return to Bond’s Royal Navy background and his rise through MI6 before attaining his “00” status. We could very well have an “origin” story on our hands, potentially set in the ’50s or ’60s. Not a done deal, but that’s what many fans would love to see — a period-set Bond. As for who will play Bond, let’s pause on the speculation. The only concrete intel I’ve gotten is that Amazon/MGM was pushing for Jacob Elordi, but with no auditions having taken place and Villeneuve having final say, we’re still a few months away from a decision. https://www.worldofreel.com/blog/2026/1 ... early-2027

Sounds plausible to me too. Though the comments about Fleming's early novels suggests that the author hasn't read them. Kroll seems to think that they start off with Bond's origin story.

Report: Jacob Elordi Met With Denis Villeneuve and Amazon/MGM About Playing James Bond

The always-reliable Roger Friedman, a journalist with decades of work to back him up, has paralleled what I heard and reported many months ago: Jacob Elordi is being heavily sought out to play James Bond.

This morning, Elordi, 28, received his first Oscar nod for “Frankenstein.” It’s been a wild last few years for the Australian-born actor, who broke out with HBO’s “Euphoria” and has since taken off, working on films by Sofia Coppola, Emerald Fennell, Paul Schrader, Guillermo del Toro, and Ridley Scott.

Friedman’s story, which has now been picked up by Drudge, reports that Elordi has had meetings with Bond producers, Amazon/MGM and director Denis Villeneuve. If he gets the job, he’d be the youngest 007 ever, which does align with previous reports that Amazon was looking for a young Bond to reboot the franchise.

Back in October, I had a well-placed source telling me that Amazon/MGM was quietly pushing for Elordi to be the next Bond, though no formal offer has been sent out, and that Elordi was likely to have a screen test in 2026 — the usual tuxedo fitting and action scene.

Villeneuve is expected to have a say in the matter, and so far there’s been no indication of pushback on his part in terms of Elordi’s casting. In fact, if we take today’s reporting, it seems as though Elordi privately met with the filmmaker. A final decision is supposed to be made on the next 007 actor in mid-2026.

Elordi might be a perfect fit for 007, a character that requires the looks but also a certain detached coldness, which Elordi has. He’d make a compelling Bond because he combines striking looks with an imposing frame and a natural air of detachment that aligns with Ian Fleming’s colder, more ruthless 007. His performances have shown he can balance charm with menace — exactly the duality required of James Bond.

A key factor in this reboot is screenwriter Steven Knight, who is penning Bond 26 for Amazon MGM. With credits including “Peaky Blinders” and “Eastern Promises,” Knight has a history of gritty, violent storytelling. One insider notes that the new Bond needs to look like “he could kill you with his bare hands in a trice” — a clear nod to Ian Fleming’s more brutal conception of the character. Standing at 6’5”, Elordi certainly fits the physical criteria.

This does sound plausible, but it conflicts with previous reports that the new Bond won't be announced until the summer.

I dunno know about Elordi yet. I'd have to watch some of his films to have an opinion. He'd look a lot better than Craig on the posters though.

I just found out that he has played another of BJ's idols, Elvis. But it was in a film based on Priscilla's autobiography, so from what I understand, it wasn't a very flattering portrayal.
