On October 14th, 2005, 20 years ago this week, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, backed by MGM and Sony, officially unveiled Daniel Cr-egg as the next 007, handing over the baton from Pierce Brosnan. This event spawned this website: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pGj4vqa9KYo

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Conservative MP Sir John Hayes, a self-professed Bond fan, blasted the move of placing warnings on Bond films, calling it unnecessary political correctness. “Everyone knows fast cars and fast living are what James Bond is about,” he said “It feels like they want to turn Bond into a Disney character.”

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I vividly remember seeing that photo and thinking that's James Bond? Though I didn't go into Casino Royale intending to hate it, I wanted to give the new guy a fair shake. I only joined this site after I had seen it. It wasn't even my disappointment at the film itself that brought me here, it was more the "I saw Goody Proctor enjoying a Bond film that didn't have Daniel Craig in it" mentality over at the other Bond fan forums.
Meanwhile, I just deleted a bot post (brought here by that Yahoo Movies article?) that was probably copied and pasted from one of those forums. It was a ranking of all the Bond films, but it only went up to CR, which, predictably, was number one.

Same here, didn't think much of Craig when announced, I actually enjoyed CR initially then reality set it and once I saw this site featured in EON's self congratulatory documentary during the run up to SF I knew I had to join, then I saw SF and it was cemented.
I suppose I'll be getting the usual suspects over in the comments section of my articles pelting me with their ridiculous over the top strawman now that we've hit the news again.
Funny, old boy writing the article had to browse back awhile to find anything critical of Dan, namely my review of NTTD. I wonder if he actually read anything on the way?

Yeah, that was kind of disingenuous. The way it was worded implied that your pieces on NTTD were written recently, rather than at the time of the film's release.dirtybenny wrote: Funny, old boy writing the article had to browse back awhile to find anything critical of Dan, namely my review of NTTD. DB's rants are famous on the internet and the fact they are even including this website in their articles is testament of our longevity countering all things Cr-egg!

I finally gave the article in question a read, it may as well have been written in 2012. In fact it probably was and "freshened up" with an odd detail here and there. I remember a similar article after SP came out mentioning some of my rants on the film by name. This article is the first time I've seen us accused of being "industry plants" angry at the fact Dan wasn't represented! Because surely no-one could doubt his brilliance!Kristatos wrote: Thu Oct 16, 2025 6:51 pmYeah, that was kind of disingenuous. Interesting comment from Reddit someone wrote: "Can someone explain to me why the Broccolis losing creative control of the Bond Franchise is a bad thing? Because honestly... Have you seen the state of this franchise?
Ask not what Broccoli can do for Bond , ask what Broccoli has done to Bond
I've seen every James Bond film. Every one. From the lows of Casino Royale to the highs of...Casino Royale. I used to watch them with my grandparents before they passed. When they're good, they can be really amazing films.
But here's a secret: Most of them are not really good at all. Some of its most beloved installements are exceptionally boring (looking at you Lazenby), many go so beyond "camp" they look like parody, and some (looking at you Pierce) make Sean Connery look like a feminist icon.
For every Casino Royale (2006) there's at least 3 View with a Kill (1985). For every Skyfall (2012) there's at least 3 Quantum of Solaces (2009). And for every 6 minute scene of Bond looking suave in a tuxedo playing cards and throwing out quick witicisms, theres usually another 120 minutes of film. We remember the awesome action scenes we saw as kids and we're told by our parents that this is an incredible franchise because they also saw them as kids.
This franchise has ALREADY been dragged through the mud, it has been treated with less respect by some of its directors and producers than a lot of its parodies (Austin Powers) treat them, all the way to its very inception!
Why would we not want something different? Even if you love all of them. Even if you watched Roger Moore's stint and thought (yeah, riveting stuff!)... We've gotten 1 Bond film in the last 10 years and it was mediocre at best.
What can a souless corporate overlord do to Bond that the Broccolis have already not done? Nothing." https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueFilm/comme ... broccolis/

Wow. Db has Reddit echoing him.
I do think the fan boys rallying to protect the broccoli is finally dying out. I really had a hard time understanding why they were so willing to protect these rich entitled people who were doing a poor job.
Thinking about it I guess you describe most governments that way too
However, there were rabid people that had to defend the broccoli family as the conservators of the bond legacy. I’m pretty sure that family did the opposite.
Not saying Amazon is not going to butcher the legacy. Just not sure there is anything left to tarnish.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I think this came about initially from Babz' PR team throughout the ages like the "open letter" from one of her writers when Amazon bought MGM. This things get repeated enough that they become "universal truths" like CR being a da bestust Bond eva and SF being a masterpiece. Couple Babz talking points on repeat ad-nauseum with useless idiots devoid of personality outside of "Bond fan" willing to lap it up because they're "real" fans. Now that Babz is out of the picture the cuff are off. The real question is, now that Bond is under a corporate umbrella will the "fan" access to the 3rd assistant costume wrangler be cut off ending the ability to get lists of underwear brands used in the film, therefore negating the need to play lap dog to the studio. If so we may get a little more honesty on the net.Omega wrote: Sun Oct 19, 2025 9:25 pm

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
I think a lot of people deluded themselves that Babbzy was playing 11-dimensional chess when in reality, she obviously didn't have a clue what she was doing. The speed at which a new director and writer were announced after she left, and the way the search for a new Bond seems to be actively underway, makes it harder to deny that she was what held things up before.
