The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......

I kind of think revisit the story in my own way could mean remake or it could be the take on bond. Depending on what Amazon intent is.

1950-60s era correct would be hard to maintain .
Xmas first class series did ok, days of future past did ok. I like kingsman series modern take . Origins in ww1 was only so-so.
Yes, Cuaron's comment reminds me of the old rumor about Christopher Nolan having a unique take on the franchise he was interested in trying. Maybe it's wishful thinking on my part but I interpret it as wanting to do a modern version of classic Bond. After all, at this point, the most radical thing anyone could do is...just send 007 on a normal spy mission!

I also agree about the limitations of a period setting. Much like attempting to duplicate OHMSS with a "serious" Bond film, you can do it once or twice before the novelty wears off and audiences start wanting to see a more traditional Bond once again.
Towards the end cubby kind of had a formula where over the top, moonraker, then, for your eyes only .

To fans we see only a few options; continuing the the series after DAD. And reboot.
Reboot leads to ultimately two choices: modern or era correct.

I think we are stuck with reboot because nobody has the imagination to write the story picking up after DAD ignoring everything that’s happened and making a standalone adventure that may or may not have recurring characters .

The beauty of what cubby did was not to get caught up in story arcs for the most part. You didn’t have to watch the films in order to enjoy them. You could ignore the stores you didn’t care for as much and string together favorites .

That’s not how modern producers think. It’s all connected story arcs and spinoff worthy potential franchises.

I’d be happy with just a living daylights kind of intro for the new bond.

Yes, when I say "classic" I'm just referring to a film that includes the traditional elements everyone associates with Bond: The gunbarrel, gadgets, scenes with Q and Moneypenny, etc. Even with the success of CR, audiences quickly tired of its overhyped "grounded" approach and began to question when all the fun stuff was going to return!

I agree about having an intro similar to TLD and don't think it needs to be any more complicated that that. For all intents and purposes, it basically would (and likely should) just be considered a continuation of the Dr. No to DAD continuity since the Craig era had a clear beginning and end. For example, it wouldn't make sense to have Bond referencing Vesper or Quantum- since that version of the character is now dead- but there's no reason they couldn't nod or wink at the larger mythology for older fans.

I hope Amazon does this or something similar. They don’t need to reinvent the wheel. In some sense just reopen for business, they don’t need to explain it , they don’t need long story arcs. Just get back to the business of Bond in the way cubby did and the way Fleming and the early directors helped creat.
Keep it simple.

Goldeneye was already a soft reboot of sorts. The Q scene was pretty much the only link with any previous Bond films. That's the way to go, I feel, and leave the Craig films as an Elseworld.

Best selling author Anthony Horowitz who wrote three James Bond books has admitted that he thought killing Bond in the last movie was a huge mistake.
Horowitz praised previous producer Barbara Broccoli during a BBC Breakfast interview, but disagreed with the decision to kill him off, saying the next films would have to ignore the previous storyline completely. When asked why they would pretend it didn't exist Horowitz said, "What are you going to do have him wake up in a shower and it was all a dream? He was blown to smithereens, he swallowed poison, he was drowned in acid, he was killed big time."

As much as I didn't want Craig returning for a 5th movie, it does feel like he did us all a huge favor by insisting his version of the character would be killed off.

Imagine if we had to worry about Amazon hiring a Craig lookalike and not only continuing that absurd soap opera storyline but actually expanding it with a half dozen streaming shows! I would absolutely be turning in my Universal Exports fan card for good! :hair:

After nearly 100 years, the Academy Awards have finally decided to create a new award category for what is arguably one of the coolest and most enduring aspects of filmmaking — stunts. But, don't expect any movies from 2025 or even 2026 to be eligible. Instead, this new category won't be part of the Oscars ceremony until 2028, meaning 2027 movies will be on the hook for the award of Best Stunt Design, according to The Hollywood Reporter. While Tom Cruise is likely furious that 2025's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning won't be eligible, this news does put pressure on Amazon to get that next James Bond movie out by 2027.

I think if Best Stunts had been a category from the beginning. the Bond Oscar count would have been a lot higher. Rick Sylvester surely would have won for TSWLM.

Imho the Oscar’s are trying to make themselves more relatable to average movie goers. The reeason they never recognized stunts is They feel as actors , directors, producers, and writers stunts are beneath them. But it’s been a tremendous part of the most popular movies for years. Bond has always had some of the best. Mission impossible as well.

The movie industry is kind of weakened after Covid and now dei. The their brain trust the likes of George Clooney decided to get very political and take out a sitting president in a coup. I only say that to say a lot of people no longer have as big an interest/captivated in Hollywood as a culture or institution. I think there are big franchises most will enjoy that will keep the big studios in business, like bond, marvel , and a few others . Smaller movies will be harder to make, which is a shame because John Wick was a smaller movie at first. Dr no was the smallest attempt that found an audience .

Snow WOKE is almost done being in theaters. This is weekend #4 and it has only done $82 million TOTAL in the USA! What a waste of time for Disney. I would rather watch the laughing horses over that garbage. Gal Gadot must be fed up with the entire project and never should have signed on to do it but I guess money comes before all in Hollywood. https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/r ... l_tab#tabs
