This is not good news at all. Though I didn't care for the direction they took after 2006 I still liked the idea of Bond being a family run franchise controlled by the heirs of Cubby. I had presumed the children of Michael and Barbara would take over. I really hope Barbara got some sort of agreement that Bond will remain purely a cinema property and streaming spin-off/prequel shows are off the table (look at what happened to Star Trek and Star Wars). It looks like Barbara didn't have much enthusiasm anymore without Craig and decided to take the money.

Wow. Saw this coming but thought Babs would make it uglier . However she was not going to win this and half hearted attempts to get conservative news sources behind her were not going to work either

Funny to me is them handing the keys to mgm their trusted partner . Not Amazon their hated buyer
I think it was take a payday or go bankrupt , everything or nothing , to take this deal Babs had no choice

A lot going forward depends on how many of the old eon staff the Wilson boys may yet have a role they had idea different from Babs going back to 2012

Bond sources would love Cr-egg to drive the character forward, but this time from behind the camera. One said: 'Daniel played Bond five times, he knows the character inside and out. He was immersed in the creative process from the script to planning stunts. He'd be great.'

Who said this Amazon? Then it well and truly is the end of times for Bond. Surely Amazon with all their analytics can see the bloom is finally off the rose on the Craig era and he is receiving the derision he so richly deserves. Bringing him back to oversee the future of the franchise would be sheer madness!

The reporter's insiders are saying Daniel will have insight into making a Bond movie.

I call bulls**t on this. Craig has never directed so much as a music video before. Nobody gets given a $300 million blockbuster as their directorial debut. It's just one person's opinion, and you know what they say about opinions.

Having finally read the article I call B.S. too, just anonymous "sources," read the voices in the author's head, spouting nonsense. The problem with this, like all good April's Fool gags, it hits too close to plausibility. I had long worried Babz herself might try to coax Dan back to act as brain trust and considering his prospects are quickly drying up, I wouldn't be surprised if he thought it time to explore a new chapter in his career this time behind the camera. So the prospect of Amazon doing the same seemed reasonable.

The irony of it would be that Broccoli dumped Brosnan for Cr-egg, and 20 years later she gets dumped by Amazon and was bought out to get lost and Cr-egg replaces her! Cr-egg could not direct himself to aim properly in a toilet let alone a Hollywood block buster. We hope the idiots at Amazon do not think Cr-egg offers ANY residual value to this franchise to keep him on board in any capacity.

I read the Craig fantasy the same way, he's not touching it with a ten foot pole. I hope you're right about the future of the franchise, The way I see it, I'm neutral, Amazon could muck it up, but it would just be what Babz would've done just more of it. On the other hand maybe they do right by Bond either way at least it will be different that what we've been spoon fed these 2 decades.

Amazon has the chance to finish it off completely , or hire talent Babs would never allow like Christopher Nolan or Matthew Vaughn to produce a series trying to get back to the original Connery movies Ian Fleming did have a say in. If they can do that to any success a lot of fans with finally comp on how s**t a lot of the broccoli family decisions were.

I’d point to the Mandalorian as good leadership and story telling rescuing a beloved brand , when they depart from it it fails or suffers needless errors.

Yeah it’s kind of how they roll at Amazon however I have a small hope they understand the uniqueness of the opportunity they have here and take the time to do it right.

Even though he only starred in two 007 flicks before passing the bowtie to Brosnan, Dalton still recalls his time as Bond fondly and says he hopes that Amazon can retain the magic of the series without focusing solely on profits.

Well with Trek the spin-offs gave us Picard, Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks and while I don't like any of those as much as the older stuff, there were still bits I really enjoyed. Another example is the recent Terminator movies have been pretty awful but the Sarah Connor Chronicles show was actually quite good. So I am going to try and be optimistic for once. Must be crazy.

The third series (season) of Picard was very good - primarily because they got someone else to come in and do it. The rest of the new Star Trek stuff is not really my cup of tea. My ideal scenario (which I admit is unrealistic) is that Amazon make zero spin-off shows and confine themselves to a Bond film in cinemas every two or three years. I find this Bond news depressing because EON was sort of like an independent company making blockbuster films - which was quite charming in a world where a small group of corporations seem to own everything. I liked the ongoing connection to Cubby too. It's a contradiction I know because I disliked the Craig films and I don't think Barbara did an especially great job on the Brosnan films either after GoldenEye. I do understand the optimism because we know that if EON were left in charge the next film would take another five years to come out, Barbara likely would have made some needlessly divisive casting choice for Bond, the title song would have been some dreary dirge by whatever singer was famous that week, Purvis & Wade would have been back etc. All the same old problems. The thing that worries me is that Cubby was in the Bond business alone so he had to make it work. Amazon aren't reliant on Bond for their income so will they get bored of their new toy if they mess it up? Barbara has gone from being one of the most powerful women in the film industry to a complete irrelevance. It's like an episode of Succession.

I know not every fan wants him but Cavill is surely an obvious 'no-brainer' Bond isn't he? Barbara messed up by not recasting after Spectre.

Barbara had a reported net worth of $400 million before this deal so she must be close to a billionaire now. She'll now be able to fund a load of boring drama films that no one will watch.

I imagine since Babz and Co. still retain all of their rights it will be a combination of the two.
