Welcome back, Sweeney. Of course we all hope for that, but the MCU sets a worrying precedent. The movies have long suffered from having to have watched a bunch of previous films in order to understand what's going on, and it's got worse since they've thrown Disney+ streaming series into the mix. The box office returns for the last few movies have suffered as a result.

Amazon was never my preferred choice but it's clear Broccoli had lost any real interest in continuing on. Even if she hadn't, I can't say I will miss her vision for the series one bit. The fact that her reign will end with somehow never getting around to casting the 7th 007 is oddly poetic, I suppose.

And while I'm certain there's no shortage of bad spin-off ideas currently being sketched out in a boardroom somewhere, this does at least open the door to ideas fans have tossed around for years. At the very least, by this time next week I demand to hear news of Dalton returning to the fold in some capacity. Either as the new M or in a spin-off focusing on an old, retired 007. I'd even accept a series where he merely sits in a chair and reads Moonraker aloud.

I'd also love to see Brosnan in a Never Say Never Again type of one-off. Or a bunch of guest directors tackling period adaptations of Fleming's stories. The past decade of 007 has been terribly disappointing to me, so I say Bond the hell out of it. All I ask is that they keep the mainline series exclusive to the big screen, put the d**n gunbarrel back where it belongs and keep it there, and above all...try not to muck it up.

Welcome to the forum, Jake. It's not so much keeping the main series on the big screen that I'm worried about, it's the idea of having to do your homework before going to see a new Bond film, the way you do with Marvel films.

Just thought I’d check in now we have some news. This is the best thing to happen to the franchise in years. No longer do we have Babs at the helm, making crazy decisions like killing off the main character. 2 producers whose heart wasn’t in it anymore, especially once Babs beloved Craig stepped down. She was a Craig fanboy first and foremost.

Hopefully we get a team with renewed energy, who will take the series into a different direction, and will get all fans back onside, including you lot…. ;)
I figured you would return after this shakeup Jetsetter, aka Sweeney! How have you been? MP will be glad to see you returned I am sure too.

Daniel Cr-egg was neither shaken nor stirred by Thursday’s shocking announcement that producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson have ceded control of the James Bond franchise to Amazon.

“My respect, admiration and love for Barbara and Michael remain constant and undiminished,” 56-year-old Craig, who played 007 in five films, told Variety.

“I wish Michael a long, relaxing (and well-deserved) retirement, and whatever ventures Barbara goes on to do, I know they will be spectacular and I hope I can be part of them.”-------------how ironic is it that Cr-egg was the one who wound up ENDING the franchise for EON?

Broccoli has spoken: “I feel it is time to focus on my other projects,” said Broccoli, 64, who, alongside her brother Wilson, took over from their father Albert “Cubby” Broccoli in 1995.......This season, Broccoli is working on “Buena Vista Social Club.”

How did KRIS spend his 18th anniversary here yesterday? Did you jump for joy it happened the same day Broccoli and Wilson were bought out for a cool $1 BILLION? I doubt ALE returns to chime in as she is suffering from post election blues but maybe if Brosnan lands a role our buddy FBF might return!

dirtybenny wrote: Fri Feb 21, 2025 12:25 am Shocking, positively shocking, well not that shocking. As BJ said we've all been saying this was a possibility for some time. I said it as soon as Amazon bought MGM, Babbzy isn't dealing with a perpetually bankrupt studio who needs her more than she needed them, Amazon have the money and more importantly the lawyers to put out her lights and apparently that's just what they did. As Kris said this is a case of EON being forced rather than the amiable "decision" the P.R. flunkies have concocted, only last month Babz was leaking hit pieces to the media.

As to what's next? I agree this isn't a case of "ding dong the witch is dead." Amazon can and will destroy our favorite character every bit as efficiently as EON did even more so, just look at what they did to Lord of the Rings. Look forward to "The Adventures of Moneypenny" and lord knows what else they'll crap out in a rush to cash in on their biggest franchise, just look at that "reality show" they foisted upon us last year, an "Amazing Race" knock off already in the can before the Bond veneer was spackled over the top with a rough trowel.

For Babz it's off to obscurity with her and her mega flops. Amazon may make a few coins in the short term but I can guarantee whatever they put out will be garbage and viewership will falter almost immediately. The fans will be left with nothing to look forward to. In short there are absolutely no winners in this
Agree with everything here. It's not hard, cast Cavill as Bond, Sydney Sweeney as Bond girl and disregard DC. Start the first scene in Jamaica and end in the Swiss Alps.

Thanks, Kristatos.

I fully expect Felix Leiter to receive the Jack Ryan treatment and for Moneypenny to be turned into Agent Carter. I could also see a spin-off focusing on the inner workings of SPECTRE or an attempt to turn Q into Sherlock. It will happen. It will be awful.

And yet, Bond is unique in that it's a franchise where audiences really only care about one main character. So while I understand the concern, I'm just not sure general audiences are going to feel the need to brush up on anyone's backstory prior to watching a new Bond movie. Worst-case scenario will probably be a glut of middling shows that have about as much impact as Agents of Shield did on the MCU during its peak era.

Of course, this is assuming Amazon is smart enough to limit 007's presence to theatrical releases, which admittedly I don't think we can assume to be a given.

Not at all. As I understand it, their reason for wanting to get rid of Broccoli was her insistence on keeping Bond as a series of event movies, rather than a Bondverse.

Kris says it best here, the time for interconnected "multiverses" has long passed, unfortunately Hollywood hasn't gotten the memo yet. And this problem is assuming the product is good. We all hope like Sweeney, Amazon will hire a knowledgeable, passionate and most of all competent production team to shepherd the franchise forward. In all probability though they'll grab some sycophantic, yes man hack who paid their dues in corporate, three ranks above a warehouse floor manager and has a knack for keeping costs down.

Is Bezos gung-ho on DEI hirings being the left-winger he is which could ruin the franchise into oblivion? He did meet with Trump though at Mara Lago so perhaps he will do the correct hirings. Any predictions on who the new regime will choose? I hope age is not as important as looks should be, and I hope Aidan Turner is given serious consideration. No more casting couch hires.....hopefully! BUT....if they go WOKE---they go broke! Image Image This guy is PURE Bond material and previous popularity might not be bad with Amazon in charge vs. Broccoli's lunacy. He is 41, can do a film every 3 years then turn it over to someone else. Dalton and Brosnan were fine for their ages when they started.
