While a victory in the category was going to be tough given the strength of his competition, it seemed likely that Cr-egg would at least earn his first Academy Award nomination for Queer — at least until the nominations were announced and it was revealed that he had been snubbed! -----so the role he waited his entire career to do was not only a bust at the box office but not well received by his Hollywood peers as well! Image

 Those tests were very interesting. i didn't know they used a scene from GoldenEye in the auditions. From what I gather this tape was found in a studio bin or something. Rupert Friend removed himself from contention in the end as he thought he was too young. I believe it was Daniel Craig, Cavill, Worthington and Alex O'Loughlin who eventually did a full test in costume on a set. Barbara obviously had her heart set on Craig though so I don't suppose the others really stood a chance. Watching those actors do the casino scene from GoldenEye makes you appreciate much more how Brosnan handled those sort of lines.

I must confess, I only watched the first run-through from each one, as I've no desire to see two or three slightly different versions of the same scene. I can't say any of them really nailed the part (Worthington didn't even try to disguise his accent). Henry was the best, but even he was a little too subdued. I can see why he didn't get the part, and not just because of his age.

Brosnan was superior to any of those. Where they came up with Cr-egg is beyond belief except for the fact Broccoli fell in love with him. Cr-egg was a much 'older' looking choice as well as the others look juvenile.

The fact that long hair was apparently in fashion in 2005 didn't help.

I've just seen an ad for a biopic of Richard Burton, starring Harry Lawtey, who played Harvey Dent in Joker: Folie A Deux. Although he was playing an American in that, he was born in Oxford in 1996. Given that he turns 30 next year, and that Burton was one fo Fleming's top choices to play Bond, one has to wonder whether Lawtey is on EON's radar at all (though he's possibly a little too pretty for Bond).

A property developer in Dubai has launched a claim to take over Danjaq's trademarks on the grounds that they haven't used them in over five years! Reading further, it appears to be a frivolous claim based on their non-use in unrelated areas such as motor vehicles and restaurants. But it's still pretty funny:

Martin Campbell interview: You rebooted James Bond twice. Would you do it again if asked?

"I mean, is there going to be another Bond? That's the question. I mean there's this legal thing right now. Which, by the way, when I did GoldenEye, there was a six-year gap between the last Dalton one and that. And now, of course, they have this problem with Amazon. It's ironic. It's sort of the same thing. God knows what's going to happen. And also the director choice will come from Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who are fantastic producers." -------------When will a new Bond come out? In your opinion? "I think it'll be two years away, three years away."

The new Captain America film is one of the worst CinemaScores for a Marvel character movie with a B- on par with Ang Lee’s battered 2003! That is NOT a good sign for this film.

I've been looking at the critics' reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, where it scored a rotten 51%. The main complaint seems to be a common one in recent Marvel output - you need to have watched 27 other movies and TV shows in order to understand what's going on. No thanks.

The Captain America new film looks to be front loaded at the box office. It did $88 million in the USA which is nothing great for that franchise and the lead actor is nothing great and not a big box office draw.

The BAFTA awards last night did not even nominate Cr-egg for an award. The Queer star was not recognized among his peers Ralph Fiennes (Conclave), Hugh Grant (Heretic), Adrien Brody (The Brutalist), Colman Domingo for prison drama Sing Sing, Timothée Chalamet for Bob Dylan biopic A Complete Unknown, and Sebastian Stan for his portrayal of Donald Trump in The Apprentice, who all made the shortlist........Stan got a nomination as Trump to boot and they overlooked Cr-egg as not even worthy of a nomination.
