Charlie Higson: I believe that as long as Bond can remain an outrageous fantasy he will endure. No Time to Die experimented with grounding Bond and giving him a reality. I prefer the cocktail-fuelled rush of the night before. I don’t want 007 waking up to find he’s got a wife and a kid and a mortgage and the Aston Martin needs to go in for repairs and he has to negotiate a new phone contract.

If I may be allowed to paraphrase, Bond was and should be a liquor swilling night on the town. Instead, what the Daniel era films did was focus on the hangover the morning after.

James Bond's newest theme song is set to make a drastic break away from the movie franchise's sorrowful ballads of old - at least if producer Barbara Broccoli has her way.
While the producer, 64, who creates the Bond franchise with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, is still on the hunt for the perfect star to fill 007's shoes after Daniel Craig stepped down from the role, she is understood to have been working hard on some new ideas for the theme song.
The most recent Bond movies starring Craig, 56, have been accompanied by very soulful ballads - but now, Barbara is said to be keen to 'mix it up' in an attempt to lure in new fans to the spy franchise.
'Barbara is very interested in having the next Bond theme to be more fun, more pop rock and not filled with as much sorrow as the last few themes have been,' a source told DailyMail.com. The source added that Barbara 'loves' what pop icons Billie Eilish, Sam Smith, and Adele have done in the past with iconic 007 tunes, but doesn't want to rest on her laurels as far as their successes are concerned. 'But this next Bond needs to mix it up and return to having a song in the vein of Duran Duran's, A View to a Kill,' they added. According the source, the Bond theme needs to be an anthem - but also upbeat and able to both 'resonate with both established fans of the series and new fans as well.' 'Barbara feels someone like Bruno Mars or The Weeknd could do something fun, or a band like the Foo Fighters or Adam Levine by himself or with Maroon 5 could have a catchy and fun theme,' the source mused.

This would be the same dailymail.com that told us months ago that ATJ was going to be announced any day now. I don't believe a word of it, sorry. They haven't got a script, a director or a star, but they're thinking about the theme song? Give me a break.

They all say that Barbara has done a great job with bond. As a fan since 1974 I disagree. The mission impossible and Jason Bourne movies have been far far far better than James Bond since she took over. Even the songs have been terrible under her tenure. Quantum of solace and Spectre have to be two of the absolute worst ones they ever made. Her father must be rolling in his grave.

You're right, of course. The 'Taken' series has also been way more riveting and inventive for a fraction of the production cost. At best the Bonds of late have been a snooze. Anybody who claims otherwise needs to take the cure for gaslighting.
Favorite Bond Movie: Dr No, From Russia with Love, On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Octopussy, For Your Eyes Only, A View To a Kill, The Living Daylights, GoldenEye
For the songs they should've got Dame Shirley Bassey to do another one or two while she still can. Amazingly, she's still got the voice for it or had last time I heard her a few years ago, but honestly her talents would be wasted on any Craig era flick.

Exactly DB. For the Bond of Fleming's books, every mission was a non stop adrenaline rush, often fueled by various substances. Any real morning after would only occur once the mission was complete.

Dame Shirley's rejected QOS theme:
Was it? Not according to MI6-HQ:
A track on Dame Shirley Bassey's new album "The Performance" has caused a bit of a stir in the James Bond fan community. The song "No Good About Goodbye", written by 007 composer David Arnold and lyricist Don Black, had some fan sites speculating it was a rejected theme song for the last movie "Quantum of Solace". The rumour was solely hooked on the familiarity of the opening string line compared to the movie's score.
Mr Arnold confirmed to MI6 that the song was not a 'rejected theme' for "Quantum of Solace". Apart from the opening string line, there was no material from the movie soundtrack. Only a few lines of the song were written and it was far from complete by the time Jack White and Alicia Keys were chosen to perform "Another Way To Die", said Mr Arnold.
When he was asked to produce Shirley Bassey's new album, Mr Arnold teamed up with Don Black if to finish the song for her specifically.
Still, even if they did reject it, it still exists as a Bond style Bassey song we can enjoy and I would say not being associated with the Craig era films could even work out for the best!
It's not just the string line, the lyrics also seem to fit the film's theme. Hell, the first line is "where is the solace that I crave?" But if Arnold says it wasn't completed in time, I suppose we have to take his word for it.

It does seem like a strange distinction. If they couldn't use it due to it not being completed in time, isn't that a form of rejection?
Legendary music producer Quincy Jones, filmmaker Richard Curtis, Bond producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccili and casting director Juliet Taylor will receive honorary Oscars from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The Academy Board of Governors announced the awards Wednesday, and the honorary Oscars will be presented at the Governors Awards event on Nov. 17 in Los Angeles. Curtis, the creator of classic comedies like "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Love Actually" and "Notting Hill," will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award for his "tremendous charitable efforts," Academy President Janet Yang said in a release. Curtis is the co-founder of Comic Relief UK and USA, and his fundraising work over 40 years has helped raise more than $2 billion for 170 million people. Broccoli and Wilson, producers of the iconic James Bond film series, will be honored with the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award to producers "as a testament to their success as producers," Yang said. Broccoli is the second woman to receive the producer's honor from the Academy...........SUCCESS as producers?! WHAT?! What have they done to get ANY awards? Their claim to fame is DADDY!
Barbara Broccoli's Eon Productions insisted it doesn't comment on speculation, but a 'source' in the know told BBC News there is "no truth in the rumours" about Aaron-Taylor Johnson. Now, bookmakers have seen the popularity of one actor sky-rocket in recent weeks after they starred in one of Netflix's biggest shows of the year and landed a role in the upcoming Bridget Jones film. Leo Woodall, 27 - who also featured in the second season of White Lotus - has seen his odds shortened so much that he's now in and amongst the frontrunners for the role. --------Leo would be great.....following Bond as a high school student! Where do they come up with such stupidity and people actually bet on this for money?

If they started commenting on speculation, maybe there wouldn't be so much of it. I think they just want to see Bond's name in the papers, but it makes it look like they're not really in control.

Or the flip side of that is that they do respond to the silly rumours of the day and look like James Gunn, denying reports, arguing with fans, being snide and combative, and he looks like he's not in control.
Best to let The Suns and the Daily Mails say whatever they want. They're rarely ever right. Whether EoN or James Gunn, don't say anything until there's an announcement of worth.
Well if the bookies say so... Kris has a point, EON could quell these rumors by just coming out and saying something, but that would require some sort of effort on their part. I also believe they are firmly in the camp of "the only bad publicity is no publicity," unfortunately as Kris also pointed out, this makes them look foolish.
The Rouge Warrior, On Hermaphrodite's Secret Service
How much longer than this madness go on with a billionaire owner getting nothing in return on his investment with this franchise while Broccoli spends her time getting undeserved rewards?
