I think that in this age of endless reboots and cinematic multiverses, audiences will be able to grasp that the next Bond film will not follow on directly from NTTD, just as they understood that Joaquin Phoenix's Joker was not Jared Leto's Joker or Heath Ledger's Joker.

I'm not familiar with the various Joker.

But yes, the audience will go see a new Bond film if it comes out, they won't think too much about it.
