Whilst I have expressed my view that casting a black actor as Bond himself would be a change to the character (albeit an extension of the change that was already made in Casino Royale, where Bond was given a lower-middle-class background that meant he struggled to fit in at Eton and Cambridge), the mere presence of a black woman in a Bond film doesn't freak me out. As a white man, I will never know what it is like to be under-represented in films and TV programmes, but I can at least imagine how a young black woman in the audience might be excited by the prospect of seeing a 00 agent who looked like her.
I agree Kris and have stated both sides of this "discussion" are far off the deep end, however this dispute is far more convoluted than simply "black girl in Bond film."
The problem with lynch is she’s meant to be a poke in the eye of fans, and she’s really not. It’s gonna be more pretentious and hot air spouting talking points then anything else like offensive

Babs it trapped in 2004 where she became obsessed with Craig and heartbroken she couldn’t mske a jinx project . For her the height of woke is casting a black female, she tried to make Moneypenny in to a James Bond like agent and it didn’t work so she’s doing it again and I think she’d be happy to continue the movies with Lynch as 007, problem being Babs never had a touch for what janes bond is to fans. She made a variant janes bond for decades, she never had the touch her father had to leave the audience wanting more but also guess what they wanted before the audience knew they wanted it.

Btw marvel cleared Lynch’s schedule in the post endgame marvel versus her character is dead.

I think it's more likely that Nomi would be spun off into her own series, particularly now that Amazon owns the Bond franchise, and will probably be pressuring EON for more "content". I don't have a problem with that, but I think Bond himself is a child of privilege, and so should be played by a white man with a vaguely aristocratic air (ie not a thug like Craig or Hardy).

Precisely, I'll even go further and say I'll hold off on the champagne until I see Babz and MGW shuffle out and present the new Bond actor, when the role is officially recast by EON, not "the bookies" or gossip rags then I'll believe it!

Agreed, as I've said before DB, Barbara will of course not want Craig to go so it wouldn't be at all surprising if there's an attempt to entice him back yet again. It's not the first time he sounded like he was done with the role (as they said in Octopussy, it's all in the wrist(s))!

Deadline.com poster today commented on the new final trailers: Anonymous---on August 31, 2021 12:20 pm-----'Daniel Craig is the grumpiest and least appreciative James Bond. He may be a better person than Connery, but he sure doesn’t seem like he has found anything enjoyable about the life or freedom James Bond has given him. Not sure he even enjoys acting and entertaining. Hope he gets a better PR agent for his post Bond years. Meanwhile EON’s formula of positioning Bond as either aging out or being green, and usually its the latter in most Brosnan and Craig movies is getting old. Roger Moore was mostly positioned as ageless and the films were more fun.'

“Being James Bond,” a 45-minute special reflecting on Cr-egg’s Bond films, will be available as a free rental exclusively on the Apple TV app from September 7 through October 7. “No Time to Die,” Cr-egg’s final outing as Bond, hits theaters the next day on October 8. The retrospective will include never-before-seen footage from Cr-egg’s era of Bond films, including “Casino Royale,” “Quantum of Solace,” “Skyfall,” “Spectre” and the upcoming “No Time to Die,” which was delayed multiple times. Cr-egg will recount memories from working on the films with producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QOHhIkMy6dg

“Daniel has just taken this, the character, the series, the whole thing, to a place that is so…extraordinary. And so emotionally satisfying,” says Broccoli.

“It’s also emotionally tough being Daniel’s LAST one. It’s tough on Barbara, it’s tough on me,” added Wilson.------now you have your proof gang. This is definitely and undeniably IT :!: The human corpse, MGW, has spoken :!:

And as long as those limber wrists are attached to hands doling out more money than any self respecting socialist has a right to, comrade Craig will at least consider it!

Looks like they'll be referencing this site yet again in another Danny boy retrospective, exactly how I found it nearly 9 years ago! Babz seems to think bringing us up in her articles and documentaries is some sort of victory dance, yet she proves us right with every dour po-face film of which the audience has long tired of!

A selection of comments on the trailer from Io9 and The AV Club. I think casual audiences are clearly struggling to muster much enthusiasm for a film that was supposed to come out so long ago and has had so many trailers.

I’m very discouraged by the fact that SPECTRE, one of the worst bond movies of all time, made the horrendous decision to try to “connect” all of Craig’s Bond movies into a single narrative and this looks like it’s doing at least a little bit of that, as well. UGH.

Full disclosure: I am a bit biased because I have absolutely zero interest in Madeline. I found Spectre to be a dreadfully fully boring snooze, and I have no idea what makes this random filler Bond girl so special that Bond would be that heartbroken over here. She has absolutely nothing unique about her that makes her stand out.

Craig and Seydeux also seemed to have the least amount of chemistry of pretty much any Bond/Bond girl pairing I can think of. I’d rather nothing from Spectre were retained, personally, but it looks like they’re going to persist in trying to tie Craig’s entire tenure into one story.

With a 3 hour runtime there’s nothing BUT time to die

I’ve seen so many trailers for this movie that I feel like I’ve already seen it. Thanks for saving me the $15, I guess?

Remember when Bond movies came out every two years and were a semi reliable source of fun, relatively harmless action movies. I feel like since the FF and M:I movies have basically taken over that market, the Bond producers have been trying to elevate these into some higher “artistic experience” or something. Hence the longer breaks between releases.

I love Bond, but my enthusiasm for this one is pretty low. Craig has appeared disdainful of the role for what seems like ages now, combined with the really bad misses (to me) which were Quantum of Solace and Spectre. Also, something about serialized Bond stories do not work that well and I am not sure whether that is due to the limitations of the character or the way that the writers have chosen to make this serialized.

Hell, even before the Pandemic pushed things back, it had already been so long since the last Bond movie, no less than FIVE Star Wars movies have come out in between (which is problematic for the opposite reason).

I know it’s only a trailer and it’s 2 and a half minutes long and they can’t reveal everything obviously but man does Malek’s villain seem utterly generic. (As does, to a less extent... most of the rest of it?)

The Daniel Craig era has been marked by a turn to “gritty realism”, which has taken all the fun and humor out of Bond. The only source of levity lately has been the interplay between Bond and Moneypenny.

I have to admit I almost snoozed through whatever the hell the last one was called.

Much as I -and apparently many others!- liked Craig’s first outing as Bond in Casino Royale, his three follow up films have been... disappointing, to say the least. In fact, as a pretty big Bond fan and having seen all the films multiple times, Spectre to me is easily the worst Bond film of them all. Dreadfully boring and featuring a story that makes no sense, it singlehandedly torpedoes -by virtue of the “startling” reveal of who Blofeld is- the entire Craig run of Bond films, IMHO. And it was so d**n boring, to boot.

The films have been downright boring and the Blofeld reveal was... underwhelming, to say the least. Blofeld also came across as a pathetic loser rather than an evil mastermind who could manipulate Bond (and others). It’s a strange phenomena - many of the newer movies like Wonder Woman 1984 have the same issue with their antagonists being sad, broken people rather than true socio-/pyscho-paths.

Casino Royale is the only good Craig Bond movie.

As long as it’s better than Spectre, god what a bore that one was.

Skyfall is wildly overrated. Casino Royale is Craig’s only legitimately good entry.

My biggest issue with Skyfall is that it’s Craig’s third movie and they’re already playing up Bond as a decrepit dinosaur on the verge of retirement. I guess there’s some commentary there about how quickly spies burn out, but it’s jarring when Casino and Quantum are supposed to be like his first two missions ever. Dark Knight Rises pulls the same thing.

Quantum of Solace is so bad most people forget it even exists.

This is feeling very Rise of Skywalker in its investment in a franchise-long “epic saga” for a franchise that really lives and dies by its moment-to-moment thrills.

To be fair, I have also seen plenty of "OMG I can't wait to see this" comments on Twitter and Facebook. Trying to gauge actual public opinion based on social media comments is a fool's errand. I hope it tanks, though Covid takes the joy out of that thought somewhat, as its failure would simply be blamed on the pandemic. I would have much preferred to see it fail on its own merits.

It's somewhat different as EON aren't trying to block us, but rather they are calling attention to us themselves. Although it is the same effect. Guess I'll have to prepare for an influx of new recruits and the obligatory troll with the oh so original line of "I can't believe you guys are still here."
