Some maybe happy me, well it does not look like the real Bond will be back any time soon
What do you guys think?

If your pleased with the current direction and choice of actor, I'm sure the news will be greeted well. Surprisingly, people there weren't that surprised to hear me say so.
The problem for you guys is, what if Joe Public never desire the more traditional Bond film again? Audiences have changed over the years, so have tastes, so have films.Skywalker wrote:If your pleased with the current direction and choice of actor, I'm sure the news will be greeted well. I'm not surprised with the announcement as the BO receipts and general positive reponses to CR indicate that BB would take this decision. Craig, won plenty of plaudits for his potrayal of Bond in CR, yet public opinion can change like the wind and if a more 'traditional' cinematic Bond film was desired by Joe public, Craig could find himself in a situation where the style of both film and character are much more lighthearted. Then it will be interesting to see how he and Bond fan's react to this change.

No trend lasts forever, but at the same time, history never repeats itself exactly. I don't think that in the future, people will want Bond films that are exactly like Roger Moore films, but the trend could turn back towards escapist entertainment, and I'm sure EON would adapt accordingly with Bond films tailored towards 20?? audiences, rather than 1970's audiences. The Sweeney wrote:I doubt we will ever see the tongue-in-cheek 70's Moore films again. They belonged to a different time, a different era. One that's nice to look back on, but one that wouldn't work in today's society. Thet are probably thought of as cheesy these days by general film goers. Who knows, maybe in a few more years, that's how the Brosnan films will be thought of too.
This current trend of more realistic, gritty, down-to-earth realism with action films is, by the looks of things, here to stay. I honestly don't think this is a passing fad, but more a complete overhaul of how Hollywood now is.
True, but I think we are at least 10 years away from that change again. Craig's Bond is a reflection of today's times, the same way Connery's was in the 60's, Moore's was in the 70's, and Brosnan's was in the 90's.Kristatos wrote:No trend lasts forever, but at the same time, history never repeats itself exactly. Sadly, I think you're right. If you look at the franchises over the last few years that have made the sort of money that Bond made in the 60's, they are all fairly dark in tone, with lots of night scenes and grisly battles against ghosts and goblins (Harry Potter, LOTR, Spiderman, Pirates of the Caribbean). I think there would have to be a general mood of optimism for the pendulum to swing back, and there certainly ain't at the moment. The Sweeney wrote:True, but I think we are at least 10 years away from that change again. It's true. Craig's Bond is a reflection of how things are now. It's all a ripple effect from 9/11. If you want, blame the terrorists for the way CR is....Kristatos wrote:Sadly, I think you're right.
