Has anybody else here seen the newest remastered Bond dvds?
As I mentioned our little No's got the ultimate edition for me as a fathers day gift. (Mrs. Dr. No help to be sure )
I am blown away by the improvement restoration made.
The 1960 movies look better than I have ever seen them and the sound (DTS) is incredible. Some purest my dis all but the original (mono ) sound track.
I have not watched them all yet but I did compare this release to my original Dr. No dvd (1997?) the picture is sharp and the sound is awesome! I admit I was skeptical and the rehashing of the movies, it seemed like a BS way to trick all of the fans to rebuy a collection they all ready bought last time it was released.
My one gripe is they (who ever remastered this) didn't get movie commentary from all of the Bonds. Sir Roger did it for all of his, Pierce has one for DAD. I didn't notice any for others. Which is a shame.
Also the menus and art work seem to be an homage to Pierce's Bond.
Pierce Brosnan did an audio commentary? I hope it was recorded before they sacked him. I'm collecting the UE's. This is the last batch of Bond dvds that won't feature Daniel Craig in the promotional trailers and promos. Buy them now!
The remastering of the films was excellent. The films have never looked so rich and new until they cleaned up for these dvds. I only own the first two volumes and I look most forward to #3 which hold two of my top five Bond titles: From Russia with Love and On Her Majesty's Secret Service.

Yeah, Pierce Brosnan's commentary is the same one from the original DAD DVD.
Long before they gave him the boot.
The UE are cool, not having Craig's face plastered on them is nice. The last true Bond collection. So sad.
All of the movies look light years better then they did before. Well. DAD & TWIN didn't look that bad to begin with. Connery's movies are the most improved. Dr. No looks amazing! But every one of them has something noticeable improved.
what is deferent between the English and US release. Years back I sent Goldeneye US edition to a friend in England cause their edition was edited for violence.
Is it the same release redone. Or uneidited?
Craig is too working class and unattractive to be James Bond. Acting is tough not enough, Daniel.
if anyone is looking for the us edition the best price I've found is at Amazon.com
James Bond Ultimate Edition Boxed Sets Bundle $179.99 about 9 bucks a movie. Mrs No says she got ours at better price. Don't know how she does it but she does.

# The UK DVD version edits the scene where Natalya tries to hit Xenia with a branch but Xenia headbutts her and says "Wait for your turn". The line is said but the headbutt has been removed.
# The UK Special Edition DVD of the film, released March 2001, includes the sequence where Onatopp tells Natalya to "Wait for your turn" as she is crushing Bond. However the UK DVD re-release still removes the actual headbutt from the scene, and every other headbutt in the film. Also missing is when Brosnan ear claps and knees Bean in the face during the climactic brawl in the antenna room.
# UK Ultimate Edition DVD is uncut and rated 15.
# The first DVD release of this film in Europe had to be cut to fit several counties local censor cuts. Scenes previously seen intact in cinemas or on VHS by, for instance Swedish audiences, where omitted on DVD e.g. "The good squeeze" line, the satellite crashing down on Alec Trevelyan or the close up of Xenias face showing her reaction after she has mowed down the Severnaya personell.
# In addition to the Xenia headbutt, the British version also has cuts to the final fight between Brosnan and Sean Bean. Bean headbutting Bond in the antenna room and the headbutt on the cradle delivered by Brosnan are missing.
# The film had some cuts to qualify for a PG-13 rating in the US. To name a few:
* In the scene when 006 is shot, one originally clearly saw the impact of the bullet to the head.
* When Xenia shoots the workers at the Severnya station, there were originally several more shots of the people being killed.
* Xenia's death was trimmed. The shot of her choking was longer.
* The rabbit punch by Bond on Xenia is missing, but this was because of the BBFC, not the MPAA. The BBFC objected to it and Martin Campbell saw no need in making two versions of the scene for the US and UK, so it was cut from both.
# In some television airings, the scene where Xenia and the Canadian war official kiss and she begins to suffocate him with her legs is cut, and we skip right to the scene where he manages "XENIA! I... CAN'T... BREATHE..." while trying to breathe and straining his face.
# German theatrical version omits the scene when Alec is crushed by the dish and the scene when Bond says about Onatopp: "She always liked a good squeeze." to secure a "Not under 12" rating. This version was also released on VHS and DVD (first editions only). In 2001 the film was re-released on DVD (special edition) and VHS, this time uncut with a "Not under 16" rating.
# US Network version shown on NBC omits the part where Xenia curses at Bond in Russian. After Bond says "No more foreplay," and co**s his gun, Xenia yells, "Blyad!" which is equivalent to "f**k". Additionally, the scene where a soldier is shot by Ourumov for trying to shoot at Bond in the pre-titles is eliminated.
"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"
"Daniel didn't have a hint of suave about him," - Patsy Palmer
Hey I just noticed that the opening disclaimer, you know the part where they say the opinions on the comentarys are not necessarily those of the studio. or whatever
It said Sony and not MGM or Fox (who sold it here in the states). Does this mean it is the same master used in the Uk?

Well Sony owns MGM so therefore shouldn't that mean Sony ultimately gets credited? It's like how DreamWorks is under Paramount.

Oh, man. You are going to love them! I'm really surprised to hear my self talk about the new releases liek this. But i'm so impressed with how wonderful everything looks and sounds.
I hate when they repackage dvd and try to avoid them on principal. This time is different and the improvements are outstanding.

Uh, I don't know. I do know sony distributed the DVD in england and thats why i'm wonderign if the UK and US are from the same master. I don't care if Sony takes the credit, thought it might be a clue. It would be a good thing if they were IMHO. taht way I know I'v got all the footage and not cuts, same for the Uk guys
