Thunderball outsold Skyfall, by a lot if I recall. Tickets cost a dollar in 1965 compared to $23 IMAX "experiences" in 2012.Kristatos wrote: Sun Oct 11, 2026 1:53 pmIt's based on number of tickets sold worldwide. But perhaps I got this all wrong?
Edit: oh, that's odd. I just looked at the table again, and it says that the estimated number of tickets sold for Skyfall is lower than either Thunderball or Goldfinger. I don't know, in that case.

So Skyfall earned more money, but more people went to see Thunderball in the 1960s.

Which shouldn't happen in an inflation-adjusted chart. Unless the premium prices made the difference, like you said.Count_Lippe wrote:So Skyfall earned more money, but more people went to see Thunderball in the 1960s.

I'm surprised that Live and let Die is above The Spy Who Loved Me on the list, I read somewhere else that Spy was the biggest success of the series since Thunderball.
Spy and Moonraker was a comeback of the spectacular big budget Bond films of the late 1960s, and were huge successes, or so I thought.

John Cork's book James Bond: The Legacy reported an artificially inflated number for LALD's ticket sales, and this error has been reproduced in other charts that use it as a source. That could be what happened here.

Another moron who washes her hands of the franchise after becoming more well known.

Today marks the 21st anniversary of Craig and his life preserver being announced as the new Bond. Does this mean his successor could be announced soon?
