He's been on the radar for a while, I think.

OK, Gary Oldman is one thing, but now someone actually connected with the next film is suggesting that a decision has been made: https://www.independent.co.uk/arts-ente ... 46418.html

Steven Knight, the screenwriter of the new James Bond film, has revealed that the next 007 has been cast – and hinted that he’s been writing with the actor in mind........rest assured once we know the SWEENEY will reappear here!-------my guess is we will NOT approve of the choice.

Like I said, I'll wait to see the film before passing judgment. All I've seen of most of the candidates are still images, which aren't necessarily the best way of assessing someone's suitability to play Bond.

Oldman has now clarified that he meant to say that one of the actors on the shortlist had already been chosen. Speaking to journalist Josh Horowitz during a Visionaries session at the Toronto International Film Festival, Oldman said: “There’s six people on a shortlist. I heard a rumour that they’ve picked James Bond, but they haven’t announced it yet, which is their prerogative.” “So I do not know [who has got the part], but I’m hoping it’s Jack,” he said.

Personally, I don't think the new Bond has been chosen yet. I think they would want to announce it as quickly as possible, to avoid leaks.

Looking around reddit and other forums, most people now seem to be 99% convinced it will be Lowden. It's interesting that he has been largely absent from the Slow Horses promotional tour. I thought Amazon wanted a young Bond? Lowden will be in his forties by his second film.

That's because most people lack critical thinking skills. They see Gary Oldman saying "I hope it's Jack Lowden", and assume that he's already been chosen.

Amazon MGM Studios is celebrating Craig's legacy by re-releasing Casino Royale in theaters this October, according to Empire. Casino Royale originally opened on November 17, 2006, so it will return just a month shy of 20 years later. Amazon MGM Studios is already building hype with a slick new poster showing Bond at a poker table with a hand on his gun......who will run out to see this and why expose the world to this moron again?..............Dune director Denis Villeneuve will helm his next adventure, and Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has FINISHED writing the script.

A major hint in the hunt for the next James Bond has been inadvertently revealed. Slow Horses cast member Jack Lowden–reportedly a frontrunner for the role–was conspicuously missing from the announcement for the Apple TV show’s upcoming eighth season. The Emmy-winning show stars Lowden and Gary Oldman, but the Sep. 15 press release for an upcoming season didn’t name Lowden. Instead, Apple TV said the season will focus on Oldman’s character, Jackson Lamb, and Kristin Scott Thomas’s character, Diana Taverner.......it looks like a done deal gang!

Still circumstantial evidence. There's been this sort of "reading the tea leaves" about other candidates. I think we'll be getting an announcement pretty soon, though.

Update: just seen a story in today's Metro newspaper that Lowden is starring in a new Netflix adaptation of Pride and Prejudice, which could just as easily explain his departure from Slow Horses.
