Re: In defense of Roger Moore
In this highly praised grim and gritty Craig era where most people would readily drag the Moore era through coals, it's so nice to occasionally see an article of appreciation and defence. Moore has always been the punching bag of the series. Critics, who most of the time were Connery fans, tended to be biased and nitpicked a lot. And while I understand his style may not be to everyones taste, there's so many forum dwellers who don't give Moore an honest chance, and think making tiresome jokes about him is the cool thing to do. He's the "wussy Bond" in their eyes, and so often give the impression that Moore's Bond simply just told jokes and made the villains laugh themselves to death. For me, Moore's Bond is a gentleman, and while he's known for his witty quips, he also had tougher moments which tend to get overlooked.
In order to avoid conflict, I used to say that Connery was my most favourite Bond. I do love Connery as Bond, but Moore has always been my most favourite, and I no longer care what other fans think about it. While this article primarily focuses on The Spy Who Loved Me, I find something enjoyable in all seven of Moore's Bond outings, and, in my opinion, they have the most entertainment value.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
In my experience, Moore doesn't come in for that much of a bashing. Far Moore often than not, he is looked on as one of the two Bond titans (the other being Connery). If any Bond gets mauled, it's Dalton. Not so much these days, but that old chestnut of "he killed / almost killed the Bond films" still gets thrown about.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
I actually read how Moore stopped surfing the web when he read that he was voted the worst Bond. Where was that? Mi6 forum? I wouldn't be suprised. Moore gets poked a lot by Craig fans(but then again is there something they don't bash?) but in Croatia on general forum Moore is fairly popular. He came third in a poll when asked "who is the best Bond". There was one particular comment that made me laugh:"A charm that Roger Moore has when he is 150 eats Daniel Craig whenever and wherever..."

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
I think Moore gets far more bashing from Craig fans than Dalton-but then again Moore is generally more popular than Dalton so I guess there are two ways to look at it.Daltonite Toothpaste wrote:In my experience, Moore doesn't come in for that much of a bashing. Why Dalton doesn't get the short stick with Craig fans is because it seems that there is an opinion these two are somehow similar...I am sure that's something you will disagree with.
Re: In defense of Roger Moore
Moore-bashing seems to be passé now. I'm even seeing positive comments about Moonraker on internet forums, which would have been unthinkable a decade or so ago. Which is fine, except that everybody now likes Roger and Moonraker. It's another example of the herd mentality at work. Most of them won't even acknowledge that they ever held any other opinion. It's all a bit Orwellian.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
Now I remembered-in "The Top Tens" list Moonraker was voted as the most underrated Bond movie. Maybe the Moore bashing is only full on on mi6 forum actually ajb007 forum seems like a decent one...Kristatos wrote:Moore-bashing seems to be passé now. Re: In defense of Roger Moore
I do indeed. The only similarity is that they both attempted to do the 'darker Bond'. Dalton brought a little charm, and a whole lot of ruthlessness and cunning. Craig brought..... well, nothing much that we have not seen in the past. And if we have already seen it, then it is badly mishandled.Veronica wrote:I think Moore gets far more bashing from Craig fans than Dalton-but then again Moore is generally more popular than Dalton so I guess there are two ways to look at it.Daltonite Toothpaste wrote:In my experience, Moore doesn't come in for that much of a bashing. Dalton smiled but also was serious. Craig's Bond is just depressed all the time for no appearent reason. And has one facial expression(read:grimase) the whole time...

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
Roger is Bond.
Before Craig I used to find it strange that Bond fans seemed to hate many of the Bond films. Now I hate three of the films - soon to be four. Although I have an excuse as they have completely changed the series and the film Bond.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
My impression is that Craig fans are the ones who dislike many of the Bond films. I read things like :"Moonraker is the biggest piece of crap ever." How can you be a Bond fan if you say something like that? Even if its not the best it definitely isn't "the biggest piece of crap ever".
Re: In defense of Roger Moore
Yeah, this never really started before CR came out. People disliked individual Bond films, but there wasn't the pissing contest over who enjoyed all the previous films least.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
I've never actually seen Craig fans particulary praising any other particular Bond film other than the "magnificent" Casino Royale. Or Skyfall. But Casino Royale more.
Funny enough, they absolutely never talk of QOS. Maybe even they don't know how to say something good about it.
I've seen pretty much every movie being bashed except of course the greatest ones like FRWL,GF...

Oh, I've seen Craigskis say "You probably think QOS is a mess of a film without a proper script, you idiot, but clever people like me who talk loudly in restaurants see it as a misunderstood masterpiece".

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
Misunderstood masterpiece? Really? I mean-really?
that is just I once read how QOS feels like its made of deleted scenes from CR. I think that's a rather good deacription. Because when something is a masterpiece I usually remeber that film well. It would be an understatement to say that I don't remember any scene from QOS.

Sure you do V, in fact you can recreate one anytime you like, just run around full speed and shake your head wildly, and what you see will be just like every scene in QOS!Veronica wrote: It would be an understatement to say that I don't remember any scene from QOS.

Re: In defense of Roger Moore
I saw someone tried to rewrite QOS to make sense on one of the forums. Never bothered to look at it . Trying to fix qos is a lost cause , the closest would be the November man which did better with the same story give or take

The only thing I remember from QOS is the comically named "Quantum" Organisation which was chosen to fit in with the use of an unsuitable Fleming story name.
