I've heard of Lyndon LaRouche, a grade-A nutbar who believes that the British Royal Family are behind every conspiracy ever. Why are you posting this?

Last month, some of those guys were at the 4-year school I currently attend. They had posters of Obama with Hitler's mustache. I left them my contact info so I get more information about the group, which is something I later regret. Then last week, I got a call from them, and they asked me to come to their meeting, which is around 13 miles from where I live. From this moment, I feel something strange about this organization.

Stay away from the LaRouchies. They started out as far left democrats and went further. They are world wide too.Not bad people but as a group you would be better off not hooking up with them.

Two Thursdays ago, I got a call from them saying that the American economy is going to crash by this October the 15th and what the government said about us out of the recession is just lies. Yesterday, one of those guys told me on phone that they wanted to see me sometime this week on campus.

Just to give you an idea how nutty these people are, Lyndon LaRouche has become a byword for nuttiness even on Internet message boards, which are not exactly noted for scholastic rigour. Several times, I have seen someone post a particularly crackpot conspiracy theory, only for someone else to reply "this is getting into Lyndon LaRouche territory".

See here for more on LaRouche's views.

Also, I made a mistake of donating them $25 two Friday ago when they came over to my house. Because I left them my address and phone number, they could be contacting me at any moment.

Even if I did, they would still be after me. I read other forums somewhere saying that these people would chase you even if you changed your mind or not interested.

I have the nagging suspicion that LaRouche would be nothing were it not for the campaign finance laws, which provide him and his disciples a fresh stream of cash every four years. And how obnoxious is that? My tax dollars go to support some idiot who sics his minions on Objectivist speakers in order to somehow justify his bizarre conspiracy theories. Count that as yet another reason to never check "yes" on one's 1040.

Oh boy. I guess the moral of this story is don't give your money to organisations you know nothing about. I speak from experience here. i once bunged a couple of quid to a charity that claimed to be providing humanitarian relief to Croatians during the Bosnian war. I later read that they were a BNP front that saw Croatia as the best hope of setting up a fascist state in Europe.

Let me get this right. October 15th is the end of the economy and they want you to give them money!?!? Why? If the economy is over why panhandle for the soon to be worthless dollar?

If these guys are bothering you talk someone in authority at your school and see if they can help.

I know a lot people are upset with the government waste, I personally know life long democrats going to tea parties
The Larouche people don't seem too far out at first, they present the best face when selling their group. I'm surprised they are allowed on campus at all.

I look up on LaRouche, and it said he's an Anti-Zionist. Does that mean the entire movement is Anti-Zionist?

Not even all of the Nazi party was Anti-Zionist, the individual people may not be jew haters but the organization is.

No, a lot of anti-semites in Europe (anti-semitism was by no means confined to Nazi Germany in the first half of the 20th century) were acctually pro-Zionist, because they figured that if the Jews had their own homeland, they (the anti-semites) wouldn't have to put up with them in their countries.

True. In some ways it is still true.
Turn of the century USA had many of the same attitudes as Europe. Many prominent people, including some well known actors believed in Nation Socialists were saying and doing. Their inertia was hard to break Until Pear Harbor made it essential that we become involved. Only a few brave voices in Hollywood spread the word and yes propagandized the argument for intervening in Europe and Asia by supplying and fighting.

Strange but true Charlie Chan movies were a early vehicles for this message. They featured the 1936 olympics and scratched off the Swastikas off the Zeppelins a year or two later they made movie based on script two European refugees Charlie Chan and the City in Darkness
