Quantum Of Solace smashes Japanese record

Post by Captain Nash »

Yes, QOS has opened in Japan. And it's smashed box office records doing it.
http://www.mi6.co.uk/news/index.php?ite ... mi6&s=news

According to Variety, "Quantum" raked in $6.5m in Japan in its opening weekend. That is the biggest opening for any 007 adventure and smashes the $3.25m bar Daniel Craig set with his previous film "Casino Royale" (2006).

Wow.
That's an impressive boost on CR's wouldn't you say.
Whether the film can maintain that kind of return, remains to be seen. But for an initial opening, QOS is doing just fine.

Okay I'll let you re-group and come up with some way to diss this.

Well, maybe Japanese Bond fans are a little less fickle than their fans elsewhere

How about posting a real link instead of a fanwank page?
Variety: 'Valkyrie' tops foreign box office
Sony-MGM's "Quantum of Solace" gunned down $6.5 million in Japan, the best number for a Bond pic in that market. "Solace," which has completed its run in nearly all markets, has grossed $391.2 million outside the U.S.
It is another font loaded release. That's all. Probably end up being 30 some % of the total there, as the US opening weekend was 40 + % of the total take.

I hope the mods /admin take action against this type of comment.
Whether you like other messageboards or not, this is not going to acheive anything but an argument.
Doesn't surprise me from Mazer.

Well we'll see what action is taken.
I guess it's a free for all if not.
Funny how the article so offends you, just because it's from Mi6.
What did you not get a welcome when you joined? Were you banned because you bring nothing to the forum?
No doubt you never joined. But then we're better off without the likes of you.

I have got no idea what you are going on about Benny. You posted a link about Quantum of Solace topping the Box Office and then had a joke at BJ's expense:
Okay I'll let you re-group and come up with some way to diss this.
Bj tell the fat lady you're on in five. She'll have to wait a little longer
.

Then you got upset because Mazers had a dig at MI6?

Haven't you figured it out yet? It kills Nash that he has no control over what we say here the way he does at MI6. He's not a mod, he can't ban anybody, he can't delete any posts that are insufficiently deferential to EON. All he can do is try to shut us up through verbal bullying.

Glad we got that sorted out.
Oh and thanks for that Kris, nice to know who your friends are.
Lol.
So anyway, anyone got any comments on how successful QOS is doing in Japan?

I'm waiting to see whether Japan bucks the trend and gives it legs, or whether it's just another case of hype driving a strong opening weekend, followed by a crash when moviegoers realise they've been sold a lemon.

Japan is a market where Bond traditionally does better than most. But since it just opened, too early to figure out if it's just a strong start or if it is going to fade quickly.

They have a new torture game show in Japan. The longer contestants stay in the cinema watching Quantum the more money they win. This may explain th bonx office figures.

Mamma Mia! Opening in 2nd place w/4.3m crushes Quarks second week. Quark has no staying power in any of its markets. While the 1st week pleases some fans they forget as it was in Russia other similar genera movies preformed much better than Quark and for longer. Wanted is a fine example it opened w/better BO in Japan and Russia and stayed higher on the charts for longer.

The latest one (2007) did a total take of $15m which is close to what I suspect Quark will make there. Bourne 3 also opened w only 3m. The Japanese were never all that into the Bourne series.

Where did you get that info? BOM doesn't have this weekend's totals for Japan up yet.

Why is everyone saying that QOS made $6.5m on the opening 'weekend'? It didn't...its has made $6.5m since it's been playing, but the ACTUAL two-day (Japan does it oddly) weekend take was $3.56m, versus CR's $2.34m over the same time period (CR had made a total of $3.25 since it actually started playing).
It's an increase, certainly, but not a gigantic one. I know the higher figure certainly sounds more impressive, but I must be accurate here...:)
