QOS breaks UK record for 2009 home entertainment release

Post by Captain Nash »

James Bond blockbuster Quantum Of Solace has become the UK's biggest home entertainment release of 2009, the Official Charts Company has confirmed.

The film shifted 522,926 Blu-ray and DVD copies on its first day of release on Monday.

Anders Kloster, managing director UK, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, said: "Bond is as big as ever with the British public."

The film was also a box office phenomenon and had the biggest Friday opening of all time in the UK.

The film was the second outing for Daniel Craig as the super spy after his debut in 2006's Casino Royale.

No-one will take you seriously if you keep posting the rolling eye squad all the time.
Here I am posting factual evidence, and your comeback is to roll the eye squad out. Typical.

That is a bit of weak tea there Benny. Top dvd seller of 2009?

Lets take a look at what a true record breaker looks like.523K? it might not beat CRs uk first week or day.

Mamma Mia! Became the fastest selling DVD of all time in the U.K. after first-day sales reached 1.669m
"This latest landmark further underlines the popularity of the movie, which is now 'officially' the British public's favourite DVD of all time - with one-in-four British households owning a copy."
None fan Boy version below
It's not exactly an earth-shattering surprise, but Quantum of Solace has become the UK's biggest-selling DVD and Blu-ray release of 2009 – so far.

On its first day of release on Monday (March 23rd), Quantum of Solace sold 522,926 units on DVD and Blu-ray combined. Around 10 per cent of those sales were on Blu-ray.

"Bond remains one of the world's largest and most successful film franchises of all time," says Anders Kloster, managing director UK, Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Never mind the critics: Daniel Craig in Quantum Of Solace is selling hundreds of thousands of copies…

The latest DVD and Blu-ray adventure of 007 has got off to a quite spectacular start in its first week of release. Despite the film itself not being too good, the early figures suggest that Quantum Of Solace sold 522,926 in the UK on its first day on sale. It's unclear at this stage just what the split was between DVD and Blu-ray discs shifted, but however it turns out, it's already turned out to be the year's biggest seller. We're not talking Mamma Mia! levels, of course, which has now become Amazon UK's biggest selling product ever.

Talking of Amazon, it was leading the price promotions on the disc, too. Even at the time of writing, the site was discounting the disc down to a ridiculously cheap £6.98. That's over 65% off. Yikes. We're assuming this is a week one offer, and it'll be more expensive this time next week.

We've reviewed the film on both Blu-ray and DVD. And we still think it's the most disappointing Bond in some time...

They have big promotional displays in all the shops here (the UK - or the shops in the UK I go in!). As you say Mazer, many of the disks are reduced.

Funny thing here in the states the walmart QOS display is at the back of the electronic section and not front and center of the store like they did for last few big releases.
Oh and they had the old Special Edition Bond DVDs (the old 2000 dvds not the 2006 up dvds) in the display case too. TND and a few of teh Moore Bonds.

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

Looks like QOS isn't the hit on DVD that CR was...I mean, it's at the back of Walmart and not front and center?Obviously they're saving the front of the store for stuff likeTwilight, which isn't much better, but still..
