Anyone remember watching this on The Living Daylights DVD? Brolin was house hunting in London when Roger came back at the last minute to do Octopussy.

If nothing else that test proves Cubby would never have picked Daniel Craig.

He would have been like Sir Roger.

For a second my mind went to Josh Brolin, who I think would make a good American ally.

As for James Brolin. As Bond? Nah.

But worryingly he was about to settle on Brolin if Roger Moore had not returned.
A terrible choice for the role, and one that I think would've damaged the series in much the same way Craig has.

And I wont even get started on John Gavin.

I wonder how all the Roger haters would feel about him Now, If Brolin had Taken over with Octopussy.

Brolin would have been a lighter Bond like Roger if that screentest was anything to go by so maybe they would been lumped in together. He has an American accent in the test but I think they said he would been coached to sound a bit more British as Bond.

Yeah they wanted to get the gist of him performance wise, then do something about the accent.

I remember Christopher Lambert was purely because of his accent.

Judging from those screen tests, I think Brolin would have been alright in a George Lazenby sort of way (I'm not a big Lazenby fan, but he's certainly preferable to Craig). Brolin is stiffer and much less dangerous looking than Lazenby, but he has a much smoother delivery than Lazenby too. I think it's a good thing he wasn't cast, but he wouldn't be the disaster Craig's been. Craig is changing the character of Bond. Brolin either would have lived up to the Bond standard or been quickly ousted. Cubby wasn't trying to rewrite Bond the way Babs is now.

I'm not 100% sure Gavin would have been a total disaster either. He is pretty wooden in Psycho, but that might be because Hitchcock hated him and treated him poorly as a result. I remember Gavin's performance as Julius Caesar being one of the few real highlights of the otherwise tedious Kirk Douglas ego project better known as Spartacus.

Going of off his OP screentests, I think Brolin comes off as a bit wooden.

Brolin was 43 in 1983 so maybe little too old, i think 40 is the limit when actor start as 007. :007:

I think it would depend on the actor. Take Connery in DAF, and compare him to Dalton or Brosnan in TLD/GE. All 3 were around the same age, give or take a year or two, but there's a big difference. Both Dalton and Brosnan could have passed for being younger than they were, while Connery looked considerably older than his 41 years.

I never liked Brolin in anything I think he would have sucked at bond. But I see him in my mind as older than maybe he looked in 1983.
