IMDb Rankings of Bond: The Possible General Consensus
So I was looking up to see the ranking list on Bond films on IMDb since that's the closest we can get to general audience's consensus beside the box office. Not just to see how CR stands but how the other films do as well. We can argue all we like about whether this really does live up to the general consensus but let's be honest, this is as close as it gets so we might as well discuss of it.
1. Casino Royale (2006)
2. Goldfinger (1964)
3. From Russia with Love (1963)
4. Dr. No (1962)
5. The Spy Who Loved Me (1977)
6. GoldenEye (1995)
7. You Only Live Twice (1967)
8. Thunderball (1965)
9. On Her Majesty's Secret Service (1969)
10. For Your Eyes Only (1981)
11. Live and Let Die (1973)
12. Diamonds Are Forever (1971)
13. The Man with the Golden Gun (1974)
14. The Living Daylights (1987)
15. Octopussy (1983)
16. Licence to Kill (1989)
17. Tomorrow Never Dies (1997)
18. The World Is Not Enough (1999)
19. Moonraker (1979)
20. Die Another Day (2002)
21. A View to a Kill (1985)
It says quite a lot. I can say that I partly agree with this list (YOLT and TSWLM would NEVER make my top 10). Time will tell for CR, but it's quite obviously popular (no surprise).
What I do find quite refreshing is that DN and FRWL are both in the top 5. With all the talk about how audiences preferred OTT cartoonish Bond films like YOLT and most of the Moore films, this says otherwise. Even OHMSS at least makes #9, I suppose since the release of the DVD it's gotten more well regarded as the years went by.
Besides GE, the Brosnan films don't seem to be as well regarded, with DAD almost being on the bottom but blocked by AVTAK.
Anyway, interesting list.

I certainly don't agree with GE being ahead of OHMSS. However, the list seeme fairly good to me, and not too far off how I would rank the films.007 wrote:Two Martin Campbell films ahead of On Her Majesty's Secret Service?
And it is very satisfying to see DAD and AVTAK right at the very bottom, although how DAD is not actually at the very bottom beats me....

Not that I attach any importance to the IMBD list or course.
It's IMDB.Says it all really In general, these "best/worst of" lists are so off it's not even funny.I almost always disagree with them.
If you get 20 Bond fans in a room, you're going to get varying opinions(and some interesting conversations )

Of course, but this isn't a Bond fan list. I too don't agree with the list entirely but it is what it is, we can't convert these poor people into hating YOLT like myself.katied wrote:If you get 20 Bond fans in a room, you're going to get varying opinions(and some interesting conversations )
But still, it is nice to see the classic first three films (DN, FRWL, GF) being well regarded. Knowing IMDb I would have thought they would be near the bottom merely because they don't have enough explosions, too much dialogue and are too original compared to most action adventure films. But instead that's where the Brosnan Bond films are, and that's where they should be.

If you look at the review for Casino Royale you'll see there's plenty of negative reviews so how the heck did that movie got the rating so high I'll never know...maybe it's all a trick.

Re: IMDb Rankings of Bond: The Possible General Consensus
Is the love thing convincing? As far as I know the plan of Blofeld is to brainwash women for something. Doesn't seem like a plot of how some hardcore fans claim to be one of the best Bonds ever. Aside from that TND and TWINE deserve higher ratings. I mean Octopussy,Live and Let Die and TMWTGG ahead? Yeah,right.ml94 wrote:Main reason why i hate OHMSS is Lazenby.Veronica wrote:Did you watch OHMSS?wHAT'S it like?ml94 wrote:1.GE...LAST:OHMSS.

Its SOLID movie overall, but Lazenby ruined it (cant act & wooden).Veronica wrote:Is the love thing convincing? As far as I know the plan of Blofeld is to brainwash women for something.
