The $170-million dinosaur blockbuster posted $150 million in North American receipts, beating analysts' predictions of $130 million to $140 million, according to figures from measurement firm ComScore. "We're obviously thrilled with our opening," said Jim Orr, Universal's distribution chief. "Not only with the box office, but we're adding to a tremendous global result already." "Fallen Kingdom" topped the international box office for the third weekend in a row with $106.7 million, an estimated international gross of $561.5 million and a global gross of $711.5 million. It boasts an A-minus rating on CinemaScore and a 50% "rotten" rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

I’m surprised by the RT rating, I know several people who went to the movies yesterday and they also say people were clapping as the credits rolled matching the A- rating I guess.

I don’t get why critics would take is piss on this movie. It follows the rules of what a Jurassic movie should be like while expending future possibilities, and making animals more of a real character with more realistic traits.
I honestly thought mazie 2.0 would bother more people than she did.

I also read some idiot right wing reviewers trying to politicize the few minutes dinosaur rights, guess they missed the dig at trump in the news montage.

I don’t know how anybody honestly reviewing this movie can take digs at this movie while praising movies like nu bond which have forgotten what a good bond adventure feels like just because it’s “different” from the previous 40 years of movies’
If someone wants a Jurassic Park adventure this movie will do it, we will probably go back to see this movie a few time more this summer.

I would add the way the animals were treated had more soul than any other Jurassic movie with images of how these prehistoric creatures may have actually been wiped out millions of years ago with volcanos and other atmospheric calamities.

I think 3&5 May be more realistic but they (and many others) also ignore the fan backlash to TLJ. It seem official Hollywood has circled the wagons around Kathleen Kennedy and that movie. At least WB had the good fortune of realizing they needed to cut bait on BvS, suicide squad and justice league, Disney or the press seem intent of building up TLJ as the definitive SW movie ignoring it was the first Of the new Sw movies to under preform and get real backlash started.

IMO if solo was released when rouge one was it would have better bo if rogue one had solo release it would’ve have about the same result as solo has.
I think the fans have changed, expectations for all franchises is for consistent in tone well planed movies. Maybe marvel universe created a monster or maybe social media evolved the audiences.
To be fair I’m not sure George Lucas could make his prequel, finding what could be painted as success in this environment. Maybe he had a sense of this when he sold off SW to Disney

I wouldn't have thought the backlash against TLJ would be a huge factor in Solo's relative lack of success. It might have put some people off seeing it, but I think the reasons given in the article probably had more to do with it. After all, TLJ itself didn't suffer that badly from the backlash, box office wise.

actually I think it did, to the tune of 100 million fewer viewers /tickets sold. TLJ shouldn’t have been struggling to surpass rogue one.

Life long saw fans I know were put off solo and episode 9 because of TLJ. Fans actually organized to shut down solo at the bo, I don’t think this can be underestimated. I don’t think it can be over played either. If explode nine were just a few months from a November 2018 release I doubt Disney thinks it would sail away in untroubled waters.

Of all the excuses I don’t but Star Wars fatigue, IMO the answer is simpler it was mismanagement by Disney Also the pr campaign sucked.

There was bad blood with some fans after TLJ, Kennedy tried to BS her way past it with media contacts and BS machine that actually hurt Disney’s reputation by leaking crap like solo was out pacing black panther in pre tickets sales which anybody buying tickets with a app on their phone could see all the empty seats .

I still think if solo and rogue one swap release spots it’s the same results. I don’t think the problem is solo as much as it it the studio not being willing to hold up the release date until they get a finished product worthy of the franchise aside from force awakens I don’t believe they’ve put much care in their finished product they were more concerned about making profit goals as a corporation, same reason WB kept the DCU on track is worries over merger deals and profit statements, never once thinking about what happens if they ruined the brand for a generation

On the Star Wars front rumors are Disney wanted to fire Kennedy but nobody wanted to take over her divided house or purge her supporters. Apparently they offered JJ Abrams the job, he turned it down immediately. They put a stop to all spin offs for now although obI wan is supposedly the one that has a better chance of being made.

JB Abrams all has complete control of episode 9, no interference from Kennedy. But as some pint out that might not be a good thing since TFA was a retread of a new hope

What do you base that figure on? It's my understanding that TLJ made about $250 million less than Disney expected, though I don't know what that translates to in terms of ticket sales. I still don't think it was a major factor in Solo's failure. Solo made about a blllion dollars less than TLJ. That's waaaay to much to be explained by people disliking TLJ and staying away from Solo as a result.

I am willing to believe maybe fan revolt isn’t solos main problem however, TLJ sparked a major s**t storm followed by Disney/ Kennedy and willing press trying spin the story really pissed off the fans. Without this atmosphere solo does a lot better imho, blockbuster I dunno

The TLJ numbers of tickets are from a post I read somewhere of a breaking down of the difference in attendance at the same points in release. I guessed at the final number cause the last update I saw TLJ was still in theaters and expected to make Disney’s new lower projection, TLJ only slightly under the very last disney projection, earlier projections were for it to equal or beat TFA, some thought it’d do better if only for Carrie fisher memorial factor. Remember how bullish bj was on it,
IMO TLJ suddenly going from opening about equal to TFA to struggling to overtake rogue one were a sign many loyal fans were not rewatching the movie or spreading the fever. Kennedy spins it as a win cause it makes over a billion, but in terms of attendance she lost a lot of ground with tlj and lost the battle with solo.

Solo has a lot of problems, and probably shouldn’t be released when it was, same goes for rogue one, and TLJ.
I don’t buy the excuse of star wars fatigue because it lets the assholes who made Star Wars fail off the hook, it’s like a act of god nobody could have predicted. So it’s not Kathleen Kennedy’s fault or Disney’s
I also can’t take seriously the Analysis that ignore the active social media driven fan revolt while maybe not the deciding factor it is part of the toxic atmosphere surrounding the Star Wars franchise

Now the idea of the actor not being ford has merit, also the ad campaign sucked disney thought the star wars name and solo retro image was supposed to make fans forget if there were up set or remind hey you love solo right

The Disney bs pr machine was very heavy handed and going full speed before release claiming solo was beating others movies that opened big in pre sales which they had to know was not true, the only reason to lie like this was to try to defeat the fans targeting solo to get at Kennedy. Disney spread a lot of thick bs and had a lot of back up in the press pushing the story of inevitable record breaking success. I believe it’s because they knew they had a upset fan base and Hollywood is not used to fans taking or leaving their franchises thought if it was inevitable the fence sitters would just go along, other explanations for lying would be they were to embarrassed to admit they screwed up or they believed fake news would creat Momentum.
It’s true solo had good metrics on par with some marvel movies but in the end didn’t preform and that helped feed a negative narrative about it, which it might deserve but ignoring TLJ is like ignoring BvS leading up to JL. at least here in the USA Solo was a poisoned pill for fans because of TLJ and Kennedy firing of the directors.
Honestly forgetting TLJ solo felt like John carter a movie Disney already decided should fail but the evidence is lucasfilms and Disney put their best effort in and no expense was spared, except for postponing the release.

Saw some interesting takes on Jurassic world two, first I kind of agree with that it’s going well but not as good as JW, $60 million for the second weekend is strong but not robust.

The second article was tearing down the franchise as weak based on Friday to Friday, meaning opening Friday to second weekend Friday. They went in to point out how much it dropped omitting the $59 million earned opening Friday has $15.3 million from Thursday night release. I just wonder if some of these articles are motivated by studio allegiance or real personal opinions

Ant man and the wasp was fun, theater was almost packed for the early first showing.

I known someone who doesn’t
think its rewatchable but I think it is and better than ant man 1. Part of it is this movie is out of step with avengers infinity wars until the last credit screens, and I think a lot of the relationship building was for the infinity war part 2. She thought it was small payoff for finally getting the wasp in the movie, take didn’t like how the years between movies was portrayed and the fallout from civil war. But I’m happy with it because I think it all plays out nicely and will have a payoff in captain marvel and infinity war 2

Looks like Deadpool 2 is coming up 50-60 of the original.
@ 1.05 billion Jurassic world 2 is $600 million off from JW 1, about $300 million for the us. Not sure how many markets are left as we got it here very late

Ant-Man opened much lower than estimates. It's not a huge draw for fans and Rudd is miscast.

Rudd is good in the role, I’m no ant man comic fan so maybe he’s not a wife beater like hank pym so he’s undeserving of the title. ;)
But they did over estimate the draw of the series which it’s obvious ant man is considered the poor cousin of the marvel universe, Black panther gets Lexus as the sponsor Ant-man had Hyundai.

Bo Mojo had a high estimate another prediction from another site was dead on.
I thought it was a fun sequel setting up ant man to play a big role in infinity wars 2. But I know someone who wanted more of a partnership romance than she got in the sequel. She also thought ant man was better in civil war and this director sucks
