It's Official : Fleming Would Not Have Approved of Craig
I have just finished Goldeneye - Where Bond Was Born which details Fleming's creation of Bond, and the critical fact that without Jamaica there would probably not be a Bond. (I will review this in the 'book' section). But since this is the CragsnotBond forum, I feel that the following Eyes Only info should be shared in a larger light: When Doctor No was being filmed he met Connery for the first time. As most 00s know, he wasn't too keen on Connery at first glance. He changed his mind at a party in Jamaica and a female pronounced Sir Sean as 'very attractive'. And later in the book (extensively researched, plus almost 100 photos, many in colour!), Fleming said that if he re-wrote the books, Bond would resemble Connery! That adds much fuel to the argument that Craig is in no way Fleming's Bond. And we can note the long-standing argument that the Bond of the books never approached anything that Daniel Craggs / filmmakers have done with the character. He looks nothing like Bond of the books physically, and he acts nothing like Bond. The Bond of the books has a sense of humor about himself and the world. He may describe himself as 'ruthless' but his actions speak otherwise. He is ruthless with evil minions and masterminds, but will risk his life for strangers, and even has a soft heart for animals (as did Fleming).
You move very well for a dead man, Mister Bond
Kill him!

I was not aware he said this. There has been speculation about it because of how Bond shifted after Sean was cast.Fleming said that if he re-wrote the books, Bond would resemble Connery!
What bothered me about pointing out to supposedly fellow Bond fans that Daniel resembled nothing of Ian's 007, althou at the time EON was saying they were going back to basics back to Fleming, my fellow fans would strike back with the Hoagy Carmichael description out of Casino Royale which in my view the only thing craggy about Hoagy is his name invokes a certain imagery that did not match the man.
Then we come around to the old chestnut of Ian did not approve of Sean's looks either and look how brilliant he (Sean) was as 007. To me this was a false comparison because Ian was upset at how working class Sean was, his (Ian's) 007 was always envisioned as the leading man in looks and attitude, meeting Sean Connery (a man who ate/eats rice with his fingers) pre Terence Young's tutelage must have been shocking. Daniel was decidedly not what Ian would have been happy with, nor the reworking of the series to be around Bond's personal life turning Ian's thrillers into soap operas about a socially dysfunctional orphan.
As others have more eloquently put it Daniel Craig was incapable of playing 007 as written by Ian or produced by Cubby, so the series was reinvented as babbzy's 007 devoid of any of the aspects of Bond that were actually rooted in the real world experiences of his creator Ian Fleming. Nu Bond is an orphan of a cultural desert yearning to be hip and have hidden depths to be explored best in art house film.
Beside how could any fan sanction the made up family history fairytale in Skyfall and the total rubbish in Spectre? These were things Ian actually wrote about in detail.
"Those were the days when we still associated Bond with suave, old school actors such as Sean Connery and Roger Moore,"
"Daniel didn't have a hint of suave about him," - Patsy Palmer

Of course,Fleming woud never approve of Craig. This whole "Craig is Fleming's Bond" concept is another PR stunt that justifies choice of Craig. Since his casting wasn't accepted at first they had to make this charade-and it actually worked since far less people read the books.

it's a forgone conclusion. Hell, he didn't even approve of Connery.
