Third Dalton Film Teaser

Post by Kiwichris »

I heard that teaser posters for Bond 17, apparently to be titled "Property of A Lady", did make it out into the world before being mothballed due to the EON/Danjaq family feud. The 1990 or 1991 Cannes film festival was apparently one such place they were shown. Does anyone else know any more info about this, or better still, have a picture of them? If so could you tell me where to get them from? It would be greatly appreciated.

When what I remember, one is shown in 'The Essential James Bond' book. It was the gunbarrel with Dalton in the centre.

I'd be forever grateful if some could point me to where a copy of the trailer can be found.

That can be done *points*...

Somewhere, in an alternate reality, Dalton stepped down as Bond in 1989 and returned to claim his rightful place amongst the Bonds in 2011. Excuse me while I book a one-way ticket to that reality. Gotta love his scenes from the awful Looney Tunes: Back In Action. He removes the pin with his teeth, and tosses the grenade over his shoulder like a boss.

Was this before or after Timothy Dalton sued the tabloid? It might be because of the lawsuit.

It is a shame he didn't make a 3rd and 4th. He could have and still handed off to Pierce in 1995. Same for Pierce they could have given him his last and had Craig in 2006 but they can't seem to make the franchise work as efficiently as Cubby did for most of the run.
I wonder how the original series would of worked if they only made a movie every 3 or 4 years. Would it have made it to 50 years?

Chief of Staff, 007's gone round the bend. Says someone's been trying to feed him a poisoned banana. Fellow's lost his nerve. Been in the hospital too long. Better call him home.

Probably. Absence makes the heart grow fonder with Bond movies. After big gaps in the series, the first movie to feature after a gap has been a big hit. Thunderball was made a whopping 2 years after Goldfinger and is still the highest selling Bond film in terms of ticket admissions. The three previous films had been released one year after another. Three years (a record at the time) separated The Man with the Golden Gun and The Spy Who Loved Me, which was a major success compared with Moore's first two films. After the huge 6 years since Licence to Kill premiered, GoldenEye was a massive cash cow and like The Spy Who Loved Me all but saved the franchise, both being "make or break" points. Four years on from Die Another Day, Casino Royale made MGM a killing.

Even 3 year gap films have been wildly successful financially. Die Another Day effectively saved MGM from bankruptcy going on to become the highest grossing Bond film yet, and Skyfall made over 1 Billion dollars, the first Bond film to do so thus far.

Nope, you lost me there. As everyone should know just by their dates of release on record, Thunderball (1965) was released only one year after Goldfinger (1964) just like DN & FRWL before them, and that was only by the skin of its teeth (and Peter Hunt's editing) that it got a December release in its final form instead of the original October target date (which would've rushed it into an incoherent mess).

It was You Only Live Twice that was the first of the "every two-year" Bonds on account of its Larger and longer-than-usual production that lasted until the end of 1966 which forced its June 1967 release after that Spring's post-production. And even then, YOLT's box-office take was smaller than TB only because that awful Casino Royale "parody" was released in April which took a fair chunk out of YOLT's take since the audiences of the time couldn't tell the difference between a fake "Bond" movie and a Real one to properly avoid the former like they should've. So unfortunately, that inconvenient fact kinda undoes your very clever-sounding theory.

Yes, TB did make more than GF, but that had more to do their immediately capitalizing upon the world-beating success story of GF with a Bigger Budget, the pressure to top themselves with a flashier product, the energy and ambition to get it done, and maybe even the urgency to prevent competing against the troublesome Kevin McClory through their one-time "collaboration" (since McClory was awarded the film rights to TB in late 1963 and plotted to make his own Bond movie of TB until GF's mega-success temporarily brought him back to reality, cut his losses and join forces with Broccoli & Saltzman instead). And all without what would have been (then) the momentum-killing eternity of a 2 year time-gap that you implied was part of TB's success. YOLT and most of the other Bond movies since couldn't be made without that gap simply because they became too big to be fast-tracked into a sloppy, cheap-looking mess like all its imitators were. And The Man with the Golden Gun.

Sean almost made CR in 1967. Well I say almost. He turned down a million dollar offer supposedly because it would not be a collaboration with Cubby & Harry. What I've heard though the forum is Cubby & Harry did not want to make CR because it would be another TB profit split.

After some tinkering around with Paint I managed to get this together based on the photo provided.
