very sad news.
Re: Breaking News Thread
England are out of the World Cup. Being married to an American, I should switch my alliegance to the USA. But that would mean agreeing with Piers Moron. What to do?

When the hell did this happen?
How does you wife like the UK? I think it would be a great experience living there!

Re: Breaking News Thread
Support the USA as they have the same colours as England - you can pretend they are England.
People always want the USA to have football (soccer) as their main sport but in the US they love Baseball, (American) football, Basketbl and Ice Hockey so have lots of teams sports to watch.

Re: Breaking News Thread
My wife is very happy here. The first couple of years were a bit of a culture shock, and she still gets homesick occasionally, but on the whole, she is very settled.
Judging from the reaction of family and friends in the US, this World Cup seems to have created a much bigger buzz over there than previous ones. It helps that the head honcho at ESPN is apparently a big soccer fan, and has been promoting it like crazy. I don't think it will translate into more interest in domestic soccer, though.

Rolf Harris has been found guilty. Whilst the likes of Jimmy Savile and Jim Davidson were no real surprise, these allegations came as a genuine shock to me, and I really wanted them to be false.

Shocking news about the Ukraine air crash. It seems strange that airlines fly over war zones. Not much dignity for the dead left in a field for days.

Lots of Robin Williams films on TV tonight, but it's all the crap ones, like Awakenings.

Re: Breaking News Thread
Shocking! I never for a moment considered that a man who brought such laughter and joy to so many would be tormented by demons to such a extreme. I wish somebody could of been there to tell him whatever it was he need to hear in that moment.
Life has its dark moments for each of us, when we reach them we got to realize that life is better with us than without us.
If somebody happens to stumbles across this in passing and is fighting with such thoughts just know that you mean something to somebody, there is somebody who cares about you and needs you.
Life is fragile, fleeting and it hurts. There is somebody who understands what you are going through and desperately want to help.
