Not that odd of a combo-my mom used to make bagels with cream cheese and pastrami when I was a kid. I didn't like it when I was a kid(too spicy for me) but I love it now.

BJ, I make corned beef for St. Patrick's Day and I cook it with spicy mustard.Tastes SO good!

 I like Gulden's spicy mustard, not French's yellow mustard. Bobby Brady likes pork chops and apple sauce from the tv show.

Gulden's is my favorite spicy mustard. I like using dijon when I make deviled eggs(one of my specialties!)

In Britain corned beef is some muck that comes in a tin but I think in the US it is real meat that has been brined then cooked?

I actually like corned beef (British version). It was one of the things I missed when I lived in the States, along with Ribena and granary bread.

Did you miss Pot Noodles?

American sandwiches normally have a meal for five between two slices of bread.

There's a place here in San Diego(D.Z. Akin's) which serves deli sandwiches with a HUGE mound of whatever you like(pastrami, corned beef, etc.)..with a side of fries(as if the sandwich wasn't enough food!)

No, but it's weird the stuff you do miss when you live overseas. Now that I've moved back here, there's stuff from the States I miss, like biscuits and gravy (kind of tough to explain if you've never had it, as there's no real British equivalent, but delicious nonetheless).

I was always confused as to what biscuits and gravy was - but now I have watched it being made so many times on programmes like Diners Drive Ins and Drives.

I made corned beef in a slow cooker. All it was was corned beef, the seasoning packet, 1 bottle of Guinness, 4 and a half cups of water and 3 different types of mustard mixed together. Throw it in the crockpot for 4 hours and you're good to go. It's cooked perfectly and you don't need to check it or anything

I tried samphire for the first time recently. It's a type of seaweed that's delicious if you fry it in some butter for 2-3 minutes. It has a very salty taste, which I like, though some people might find it offputting. For that reason, it's best to use unsalted butter.

I can see that.. the texture of mushrooms is offputting to a lot of people. I love 'em, though!

My mom and I have to watch what we eat, especially too much salt, but I love Asian food (Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, etc.) but it can be salty-well, salty and sweet depending on what you order-but SO delicious.

Mushrooms are great fried on toast. It must be hard if you don't like mushrooms as they are put in lots of things.

I remeber before we were talking about instant coffee. This BBC article said 77% of coffee drank in Britain is instant, compared to 7% in the US.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazin ... r-26869244

I drink it as it is cheap and quick But strangely there are many upmarket instant coffee varieties here - why not but ground coffee instead?

There's a espresso brand called Medalgia De Oro that's readily available; it's almost exclusively used for cooking, AFAIK-it's what I see people on cooking shows use, in any case. It's a GREAT addition to brownies. Chocolate and coffee/espresso are a awesome combination.
