It is.Thus why movies and popcorn are only an occasional indulgence. I saw Wicked on Thanksgiving..liked it but a more or less 3 hour movie? Have to give serious thought to seeing the second movie.

**Spoilers**

I was excited by the solution, as it was the same method Captain Picard used to defeat an AI version of Professor Moriarty in an episode of Next Generation! :) (They basically tricked the AI into believing it was still in the "real world"- and therefore still in control- after isolating it inside a portable hard drive.)

**End Spoilers**

Final Reckoning wasn't as good as McQuarrie's previous efforts but that judgment also comes with a pretty big asterisk attached. Once Covid wrecked the original plan, he essentially had to edit a film that was designed and shot as a "part two" into a stand-alone entry. It doesn’t fully work but the stunt sequences are on par with the series' best.

The fact that it's coherent at all is something of a minor miracle, considering these last two films had to endure a 5 year production schedule filled with multiple shutdowns. For my money, the MI series easily surpassed the Craig Bond films, especially when it comes to the action and stuntwork. They also managed to create much more compelling female characters than any of the modern Bond girls.

The solution isn’t the problem really, not credible considering how isolated the place was supposed to be , and how fast the download was.
But it works for an end story. Not really a issue except
I have a lot of trouble with what lead to it. Honestly a self aware ai would be better enslaving mankind, by the same methods.

I remember some of the production issues, a lot of movies from this time get wrecked but still released because there was no option after how much money was spent .

Stallone’s samaritan I actually had a good premise that never really made it out in the movie I think because all the delays and rewrites

Jake, not from State Farm, the Mission Impossible films are FAR better espionage films than ALL of Cr-egg's junk portrayals. Broccoli must have thought she was in constant competition with the MI franchise as well as the Bourne sagas.

Oh it's all complete nonsense, but I did enjoy the swerve into scifi. (Such as that weird box Ethan uses to "talk" to the AI!)

I actually would've preferred a bigger time jump after the last film and to have spent more time on the idea of the AI producing a dystopian society.

I imagine it drove Broccoli nuts that Mission Impossible was consistently being praised for its female characters while she was still resorting to PR gimmicks. Hey, remember when Rogue Nation gave us Ilsa Faust while Spectre cast Monica Belluci just so they could tout her as the "oldest Bond girl"? :hair:

Good Lord, I am so glad Broccoli is no longer calling the shots! LOL

Yes that was a interesting twist , I think they were afraid of covering ground person of interest covered with self-aware AI changing outcomes

Although it might have been interesting for Ethan Hunt to have protected status from the ai.

I still think there was room for a twist, was this what the ai was after? Did it just fake out everybody and mi the mi team?

I will add that the MI series, as a whole has kept the quality fairly consistent and enjoyable rides. It’s kind of weird that the bigger series/franchise had doubts about their own brand when mi and Bourn got praise

Btw bourn really burned out prematurely thanks to the hubris of the star and directors involved

I do like the fact that Ethan keeps the AI and we're not really sure what his intentions are at the end. I also enjoyed the reveal that one of his previous successes (Mission Impossible 3) paved the way for the current threat.

(In terms of the script, McQuarrie has said it would've felt pointless to have Ethan destroy it at the end, as that wouldn't eliminate AI in general. So the idea is that Ethan knows he may eventually need to use it somehow as the technology behind AI continues to evolve.)

I feel like 2016 was the real death of the Bond franchise, as it was clear to everyone but Broccoli it was time to recast.

The fact that Turner apparently wasn't even considered after that 2015 Agatha Christie film still blows my mind. Covid was always going to be a factor but we could've easily had a 3rd or 4th movie from a new 007 by this point if they had acted in 2016!

I was convinced Bourne was poised to explore an entirely new level for the spy genre at the end of Ultimatum. After all, what does this guy do once he fully recovers the memories of all the terrible things he's done? You're essentially talking about three different identities (David Webb > Jason Bourne > John Doe) suddenly forced to coexist at that point!

I really thought that's where it was headed and almost couldn't believe they decided to just have him chase another forgotten mystery in the 4th (technically, 5th) one!

(As always, every Bourne film is still better than Craig. LOL)

Jake knows his onions as does this website and Broccoli never understood the gift she was granted from her daddy. Once she agreed to kill off Cr-egg's Bond we all knew it was all over for her and she wanted the big pay day to get lost.

I'm afraid I was already a few drinks in last night when discussing the end of Final Reckoning, so apologies for not including a spoiler warning!

But also, does this site not use traditional BBCode spoiler tags? I couldn't get them to work and had to use a makeshift warning that isn't likely to fool anyone.

(I realize this probably isn't a big deal to anyone here, but still. We're at least more civilized than Broccoli and Craig- who would no doubt spoil the entire film just to be a couple of jerks! :P )

This would instantly be the leading contender for new Bond or Bond girl if you-know-who was still calling the shots!

The media even glorifies it and calls it historic. The Broadway community always believe that THEY (proper pronoun this time) are the arbiters of what is proper and what is not.
