I'm shocked it's a "macho showdown" didn't get that vibe at all.

Me neither. They kept showing Jon parading around in his tighty whiteys, with Ponch looking uncomfortable and insisting he wasn't homophobic. I assumed that Jon was flamboyantly gay and Ponch was trying to adjust to that.

Looks like Beauty and the beast will still Dominate.
Skull island is preforming behind Godzilla and is going to be close to Logan again this week. I still contend skull island did not get the support it was supposed to, I think there are only three showings each day this weekend at local theaters, Logan and almost every other movie has more.

Either that scene is not in the movie or it was for comedic effect.

Interesting the original actor Larry Wilcox was not invited for a cameo while Erik Estrada was. Apparently Wilcox had owned the rights to a chips movie selling the rights a few years ago in hopes of getting a movie made, before this movie was in production Wilcox approached WB who bought the rights from whoever Wilcox sold them to about making the movie. He was turned down wb saying they already had a $37 million movie in the works. Bo mojo list the budget at $25 million, wonder if wb cut the budget based on the risk.

Wilcox to his credit is a class act not being bitter or resentful, at least not in the interview I read.

@ $25 million or $37 wb has a chance of breaking even.
Logan surprised me by only costing $97 million, all of the xmen movies cost a lot more as did wolverine origins . Deadpool and Logan are what I'd consider budget comic book movies and will probably be the best earners

All the recent xmen movies couldn't have made money at what they cost, but fox kept making them, as paramount has with Star Trek. I guess the fan base for both make it worth doing for the future sales and power of keeping the franchises going.

Logan was fairly low-key, with not that many effects shots or big setpieces. It doesn't surprise me that it cost less to make than an X-Men movie.

true, still a heck of a lot of FX scenes and some pretty big sets.
I'd like to believe fox gauged what a movie like Logan or xmen can make and budgeted more frugally.

Also could by why we hear more of stars getting a percentage of profits, maybe Hollywood is trying to get budgets under control by doing this so everyone is aware of the cost and profit margins. But it's probably just Hollywood trying to screw the actors out of a deserved payday.

BTW Hermione is going to be a millionaire several times over again because she gets a cut of the Beasts profit.

I hope she follows JK Rowling's example and gives most of it to charity.

WB's Kong: Skull Island finished third with an estimated $14.4 million, a 48% drop that brings the film's cume to $133.5 million as it kicks off its third week in release. In addition to its domestic performance, Kong debuted in China this weekend where it brought in an estimated $72.1 million as its international cume now stands at $258.6 million for a worldwide total just shy of $400 million.

So not another front-loaded Twilight scenario then. I think the difference from Twiglet is that while both films' audiences skewed female, "female" in this case also includes little girls. Never underestimate "pester power"!

Cinderella live action did well for them too, but not this good.
Beast is going to break $700 million either this weekend on in a day or two

I thought the fact that the original is still within fairly recent memory might have hurt it at the box office, but obviously not.

well 1991 cartoon. The kids who saw it at the movies have kids of their own, maybe it's the sweet spot for waiting to follow up, more likely is the story is well known and liked especially by women. Cinderella is kind of Grimm.

Oh there's a few fascinating show on the Smithsonian channel about the real beauty and the beast. The French queen forced a young woman to marry the pet beastman her husband educated like a normal human and kept as a pet. The poor sob was some Spanish child with hypertrichosis captured, caged and sold to the king of France as a status symbol. I didnt know there was a real story behind it, as there is with the man in the iron mask.

Today J.K. Rowling disagreed that Trump, Kushner, and the rest of the crew would be sorted into the same home as Tom Riddle, the Malfoy family, and Severus Snape. In fact, as her response made clear, she doesn't see Trump or his family members as belonging to Hogwarts at all. According to Rowling, they're Muggles who woudn't been invited to Hogwarts: they wouldn't have even received Hogwarts acceptance letters to begin with.
