(CNN)The writer of the new James Bond novel "Trigger Mortis" has set off a firestorm with a remark about Idris Elba. Anthony Horowitz recently told the Daily Mail that he believes Elba is "probably a bit too 'street' for Bond. Is it a question of being suave? Yeah." "Between The World and Me" author Ta-Nehisi Coates tweeted that Hororwitz should "Just be honest and say 'James Bond's being white is important to me' and be done with it." But in the interview, Horowitz -- whom the estate of Bond creator Ian Fleming chose to take over the 007 books -- said his issue with Elba for the role has nothing to do with the actor's race. "Idris Elba is a terrific actor, but I can think of other black actors who would do it better," the writer said. Horowitz tweeted an apology amidst all the controversy Tuesday. "I admit it was a poor choice of word," he said. "I am mortified to have caused offence."

Once again the "progressive", "forward thinkers" tamp down free speech. I find it highly ironic how those who wrap themselves in the cloth of "free speech" (leftists mostly) are always the first to condemn someone who's thoughts don't completely mesh with their's. First of all Horowitz states in the interview he has no problem with a "black Bond" and offers up an example of another actor who he thinks fits the bill instead of Elba, but because he used the word "street" he is instantly a racist and a despicable excuse for a human. Its inconceivable how we as a species have fallen so far down the rabbit hole of political correctness that even those who agree on something still find ways to call each other "racists". Its gotten to the point where that word really has no substantive meaning anymore.

But I agree with DB that there is over reaction to not agreeing bond should be ,black, female, gay, Chinese , Iraqi, Hispanic, you name it.

You'll never hear pierce brosnan or Dalton ever say bond shouldn't be black, they know what the attitudes are. They want to be congratulated for being open-minded


The author was apologizing before he was apologizing . He said the word street and wanted another black actor instead of idris. Obviously he's racist
