Now with all that being said, I know crap all about Broadway, so if Banz and Dan have found success on the stage, then mazeltov! Unfortunately it doesn't negate the fact everything cinematic Babz has touched without 007 pinned to it has turned to s**t!

Yes, reading back over this thread, I can see where the confusion arose. My bad, sorry. Anyway, the reason Macbeth is so popular is that it's a perennial favourite for school trips. So I don't think you can really cry foul over the corporate donations, they just help schools to pay for trips that they probably would have taken anyway if they'd been properly funded.dirtybenny wrote:Yes, at least one of which definitely benefiting from corporate donation.

Think about the symphony or (bigger) plays you’ve been to and in the lobby you will note the advertisements here and in the playbill; this art form needs corporate sponsorship to continue thriving.Kristatos wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 7:07 amYes, reading back over this thread, I can see where the confusion arose. It’s no different than going to a ball game and seeing advertisements all around you and up on the screens. Corporate sponsorships are everywhere for the arts and other cultural events (sports, street festivals, dance and opera and symphonies)….

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
A terrifying video has emerged showing how stunt performers shot the famous James Bond crocodile scene in Live And Let Die. Fans have been stunned to learn that the iconic sequence from Live and Let Die used real reptiles. While the filmmakers previously stated that no puppets or models were used during filming, the footage demonstrates just how dangerous the stunt was. In the final cut, Bond is seen making his escape over a body of water by stepping on the back of three snapping crocodiles. But outtakes show just how close stuntman Ross Heilman, aka Ross Kananga, who was standing in for Roger Moore's Bond, came into contact with the ferocious beasts.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Fantastic stunt, isn’t it? And truly death-defying. Thank god that the powers that be didn’t put in any sound effect like the whistle in the next film, bjmdds wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 5:08 pm A terrifying video has emerged showing how stunt performers shot the famous James Bond crocodile scene in Live And Let Die. I'm not bemoaning the sponsorship or the fact school children are going for free, I'm simply commenting that you can't brag about your box office take when so many of your tickets were bought and paid for by your corporate friends, that's all.

That was John Barry, who didn't work on LALD. To be fair, he did later regret that decision, though God knows why he thought it was a good idea in the first place.Pluto007 wrote: Fantastic stunt, isn’t it? And truly death-defying. I can easily forgive Mr. Barry, who apart from that little side-whistle elevated even the weakest of Bond films (the slyness of the DAF score comes to mind). God, he was a genius!Kristatos wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 5:15 pmThat was John Barry, who didn't work on LALD. One of the worst decisions EON ever made was not paying him his asking price to score Goldeneye, and getting Eric Serra to knock some dustbins over instead.Pluto007 wrote: I can easily forgive Mr. Barry, who apart from that little side-whistle elevated even the weakest of Bond films (the slyness of the DAF score comes to mind). My heart dropped the first time I watched Goldeneye. I had no idea what this new “sound” was. Serra’s music really works well with his films with Besson from the 90s.Kristatos wrote: Sun Jul 07, 2024 5:45 pmOne of the worst decisions EON ever made was not paying him his asking price to score Goldeneye, and getting Eric Serra to knock some dustbins over instead.Pluto007 wrote: I can easily forgive Mr. Barry, who apart from that little side-whistle elevated even the weakest of Bond films (the slyness of the DAF score comes to mind). But Bond music is layers. Its rich and sensual.
And no matter how good to great, some of the other artists were, they could never really hold a candle to Mr. Barry. The man knew *how* to shape the character of James Bond through music. It’s always magic listening to his soundtracks.

A young actor in the age range of the new Bond, is seen in the trailer for Gladiator 2: Paul Mescal.
He seems physical, alpha, has a great voice.
Thoughts?

Mescal has a scruffy look to his face in the film which makes him look more mature and slightly menacing. Bond is clean shaven and cannot look like a high school teenager. He could be a camp counselor.
This is what Bond should look like:

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
The Son Of Gladiator trailer doesn't really give much of an idea what his Bond would be like. The punchy-shooty scenes maybe, but not the casino scenes or the love scenes. I'm not opposed exactly, as actors act, and you can't really extrapolate one role from another. I'm just not really seeing it just yet.

He’s what, only 27 or 28 and has, in a short amount of time racked up nominations and acting awards, so the kid has talent.bjmdds wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 6:23 pm Mescal has a scruffy look to his face in the film which makes him look more mature and slightly menacing. He seems mature and masculine.
Women seem to love him.
I see a lot of alpha presence and physicality— which is the biggest plus for me.
He’s tall.
Packs on lean mass well.
And pics on the internet don’t sell me one way or the other. But he is starting to really grow into his looks.
I’m not sure, but if they go early 30s with the casting, I wouldn’t be upset.
I dunno about Turner either. He seems like he doesn’t have the charisma to lead a 60 year franchise. His talent is a very good, small screen actor, which is fine if his charisma was of movie star quality (Connery, Moore…), which I’ve never seen from him (and he was embarrassingly bad in THE HOBBIT— but so was most of that cast…). All IMO, respectfully!

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Mescal is the least offensive of the people suggested. Aidan Turner..I mean he’s OK..just not the fetus(Aaron Taylor Johnson)

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Aaron Taylor Johnson was cast only through the media. The greasy-looking actor, appearing as if he’s desperate for attention is not a realistic candidate, methinks.kater23 wrote: Thu Jul 11, 2024 11:42 pm Mescal is the least offensive of the people suggested. Someone on his team, or his wife’s (who was trying to sell the Amy Winehouse film when the rags hit their peaks with their “inside scoops”), planted these “facts” to the Sun and the Mail (but not to places like Deadline, that have their legit inside sources who would have shot down the stupidity about ATJ)…
Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
And now we have a Queen of Cinema gushing about Mesal:
https://amp.theguardian.com/tv-and-radi ... his-talent
If he can stay in and around this level of fame, keeping up these accolades, he has a legitimate shot at one of the top positions to get the 007 role.
I’m not sold, but I can understand why he’s likely already caught the attention of EoN.

The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
Just to point out far as production timelines go this has to be one of the longest with no action being take to begin production.
Dalton in 1989 thought because of the box office performance their might not be any more bonds, turned out legal battles put bond on the back burner, but there were still scripts being worked on there were at least one or two on cubby desk before goldeneye was penned.
Between Die another day and CR , mgw and Babs were working on a jinx series spin off. Bronson was talking to Directors, trying to find somebody notably Tarantino who pitched casino Royale and gave Babs an idea of how to approach it. Between 2003 and 2004 P and W had put together a casino Royale script for Brosnan Bond. So Work, preproduction Work, was happening, even if it was years before they started filming. Craig was approached in 2004, according to him he worked out for a year before the boat launch disaster. Even if we discount Craig story, there were still production meetings. There were still casting calls and weeks before Craig was announced Sony was approaching Brosnan to come back. There was no work stoppage is what I’m trying to say.
This lull since honestly 2019 is kind of stunning.
Five films and 20 years is kind of embarrassing too. Comparing the breaks in production to previous bonds and remembering the last movie was essentially “in the can “in 2019 for early 2020 release it is very embarrassing that EoN /babs have no idea where to take the franchise and are content to sit on their hands until old age takes them.

Re: The BJMDDS General Discussion Thread......
To be fair, I think films take longer to make now, unless you film them back-to-back like the Lord of the Rings trilogy. The Bond films from the days when they were released every two years were much simpler in production terms, shot on sound stages with mostly practical effects.
