He was. In fact, back then I was very vocal about them picking Jackman (and I did not campaign for Cavill back then! Shame on mebjmdds wrote:Cavill will be the next Bond if they do not grab Jackman right away. Cubby would have let Pierce do another Bond film then switch to Jackman. Jackman was the perfect choice for Bond and look what Eon chose?

I still can't get over how effing badly they treated Pierce. As far as Craig, well we all know where we stand I guess

LOL I guess 2011 will be full of surprises, and they start here?I agree.
You may now get back up off the floor. As much as I like Craig as Bond, Pierce had another film in him. And surely deserved a better swan song than DAD.
Jackman would've made a perfect Bond, but he's too expensive for EON.
The reason the likes of Mel Gibson and Jackman not getting the Bond gig is because they're too well known in other franchises, and too expensive.
Though Cavill still has a chance of winning the role. And would be the perfect age for a lengthy run.
Connery was 32 when he appeared in DN, so Cavill could take over at the perfect age.

Yeah, Jackman and even Clive Owen are too expensive for them, but I still think back then they could have gone for it. Notably, Jackman just refused to go on when they wouldn't give him a script to read. Which frankly is perfectly understandable. They can't cast someone like him and not give him a freaking script to read. That's pretty presumptuous of them. You can try and do that with a Mr Nobody (like Craig was back then) and it's still pretty rude and presumptuous.
I was talking about Cavill's age matter elsewhere. While I think he's perfectly ok for the part even right now, if the film isn't released by 2012 (which at this point seems very difficult to achieve, though you never know, miracles happen) he'll be 30 at least. And if Craig does Bond 23 and it's out in 2012, he'll be anyway 30 at least by the time they cast him. Which means most likely 32 when they film it. Clearly if they cast him for 23 instead, they can go for a new reboot with him, and he can have a decade or so of movies.
While I really want him to get the role, I will anyway be ok if they cast someone like him, as in someone who looks and acts like Bond. I do think he's the biggest contender, and that he's likely to be the chosen one, but with EON monkeys you never know, so I am preparing myself for other options, too. I've started hearing and reading comments about "Immortals" and "Cold Light of Day" from people involved in them (directors, producers, writers) that actually make me worry he may become too popular quickly. Which would be a problem to cast him as Bond. It is a weird situation, because on the one side I certainly want both projects to do well so his good job is recognised and he gains bigger fame, but on the other side I don't want him to become TOO big, as I really want to see him in the Bond tux. I'm not sure what to wish here

Why am I not aware of all this gossip? What incident? Spill!Good thing Mad Mel didn't become Bond in GoldenEye due to that incident with Tim's ex.
